LED ZEPPELIN: 'The Origin Of The Species' To Receive DVD Release In August - July 6, 2006
MVD Visual and Sexy Intellectual have announced the home viewing release of LED ZEPPELIN: "The Origin of the Species" for U.S. distribution on DVD on August 8.

This 70-minute film covers the years of struggling before LED ZEPPELIN: the session studios and amateur band scene of the 1960s. It then focusses on the modest success of outfits like THE YARDBIRDS and BAND OF JOY, and eventually culminates in the formation of LED ZEPPELIN, the first two albums, and international acclaim and popularity. It features rare musical performances, and obscure footage of rare interviews and rarely seen photographs. The program is injected with review, comment, criticism and insight from Alan Clayson, author of "The Yardbirds" and "Led Zeppelin – How Why and Where It All Began"; former Melody Maker journalist, Chris Welch; ex-1960s NME editor, Keith Altham; THE YARDBIRDS guitarist, Chris Dreja; musicians and performers (all of whom worked with LED ZEPPELIN's future members in the 1960s), such as: Chris Farlowe, Dave Berry and Clem Cattini, journalists Barney Hoskyns and Phil Sutcliffe and others. It features live and studio recordings of ZEPPELIN classics such as "Whole Lotta Love", "Good Times Bad Times", "Dazed and Confused", "Communication Breakdown" and "Rock and Roll". Extras include: "Special Feature: The Story of the Yardbirds", LED ZEPPELIN interactive gaming feature "The Hardest Led Zeppelin Quiz in the World Ever", the "Beyond DVD" section, and contributor biographies.

This DVD really sounds interesting. How a band started is what any fan really wants to know. Plus, it is Zeppelin so giggadee-giggadee.

I Hate the fact they do these rare reunions without John Paul Jones. I feel bad for the guy. He did so much for that band. Oh well...

a few years ago ? I am pretty sure. Elliot Easton is a really underated guitarist though. With roger waters selling out huge venues like MSG i doubt it, plus gilmour is on the road supporting his fine new album on an island. Run like hell is a fuckin heavy song , what he did with his sound/tone on that was unbeleivable.

Aside from the Live 8 performance last year, there will never be another Pink Floyd reunion. Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour can't stand one another.

That picture there is the greatest rock band that ever was.

Those who don't like them, good for you. And hating on Zep cuz they borrowed riffs - so what. They did something great with them, and in addition created several of the greatest rock songs and albums ever made.

And Bonzo still shits in your mom's purse.

Only thing that keeps me from absolutely loving Led Zeppelin is Robert Plant. I can only get inspired from Zepp's intrumental values.. the vocals just kill me.

Poop, btw.

hatetofeel: Page and Plant toured back in 1998, the Cars are already touring albeit with Todd Rundgren instead of Rik Ocasek, Pink Floyd's last concert ever was pretty much last year's Live 8 show and the Police - much like Pink Floyd - pretty much hate each other which rules out any comeback shows.

I agree with you except for the Kiss and Motley Crue ones. I think those bands had talent. Overated? Yesh Zeppelin is #1. Donr forget about also: U2, REM and Lynard Skynard. They all were popular but majorly sucked.
