OZZY OSBOURNE Doesn't Rule Out Future BLACK SABBATH Activity - July 6, 2006
Ozzy Osbourne recently spoke to Paul Saitowitz of The Press-Enterprise about his participation in the 11th rendition of Ozzfest, the traveling metal circus helmed by his wife, Sharon. And though this is the first time he will not be included on all dates, hanging it up is the furthest thing from his mind.

"No way, man, this is not a retirement thing at all," Osbourne said over the phone minutes before joining his band for a pre-festival rehearsal. "I've never really taken time off before, and touring in the summer gives me trouble with allergies, so I thought I'd relax a bit."

Instead of making fans wait 12 hours to catch him at the end of the night, this time around the "Prince of Darkness" will take the stage by day. He'll be out there with the sweaty, tattooed, screaming metal-core outfits — ATREYU, UNEARTH — playing on the second stage before the sun goes down.

"It's going to be crazy but that's what I'm all about, brother," Osbourne said. "I want to give people the chance to see me and my band up close ... the crazier the better, as long as no one gets hurt and people behave themselves."

According to Ozzy, Ozzfest fans will see a lot of his classic solo material and sadly just one BLACK SABBATH effort. Osbourne fronted BLACK SABBATH from its inception until he left to go solo in 1979, then reunited with them in the early '90s. The group has headlined three Ozzfests.

"I'm only playing one SABBATH song and I'm not saying what it is, but I'm also not saying that you've seen the last of SABBATH," he said. "We may get together again, but for now it's the solo stuff, which is a completely different animal."

Ozzy knows Sabbath will never do anything again. And he'd better not drag them back to do another Ozzfest-- last time he did that, we missed out on the chance to see a tour for Tony Iommi's "Fused" album and Geezer Butler's "Ohmwork" album.

check it out. It is cool they chose one of the lesser known sabbath tracks, everbody seems to do the ozzy era, but i frankly ( and i am an ozzy fan - went to 3 of his shows) have become much more interested in post - ozzy material. So much so that i don'nt care if i never heard a pre 1980 sabbath track again.

I too, recently started getting into post ozzy sabbath...mainly because every BM posting regarding black sabbath always has somebody yelling for DIO. So, I got into it and liked it alot.

What scares me is that BM posters had good logic!

Seriously. A new album would suck no matter what they tried, the show is boring, and if they had any ideas they would have done them eons ago.

Why write new material with thousands of idiots will pay top price to see them play those old songs over and over again, year after year.

..other members rule OUT future sabbath activity.

Isn't it funny how every day there's a Ozzy story, Ozzy news, totally irrelevant to the Ozzfest activity. Man that Sharon runs a tight public relations ship, full of leaks, as they're supposed to be... Oh , promo...

Ozzy, either give us a new Sabbath album, a new setlist, or don't bother. You can't keep playing the same setlist every tour with Wabbath.

Ozzy and Black Sabbath are just going thru the motions; they are of relevant only in terms of the past: which is good because most modern day metal leaves much to be desired

I'm NEVER going to claim to be the biggest Sabbath fan but they are unquestionably the biggest reason we are here. Black Sabbath oppened the door for Heavy Metal bands past and present and on that count should be respected.

They had a great legacy with Ozzy up until his quitting in 1979 so why ruin it.

I guess what I'm saying is this: Why put out a new Black Sabbath album where even if it kicks maximum ass will get shit on?

Although I really love the stuff they did with Dio and Gillan, nothing compares to Paranoid or Master Of Reality.

What happened with the tracks they recorded in 2000-2001? Bill Ward said they just need mixing, and that's it.

Maybe the new Sabbath album already exists!

I bet it's killer, and I would DIE to hear it.

would probably go down as the most disappointing "comeback" album in history. luckily, i'm 90% sure this album will never see the light of day. black sabbath's legacy will always live on, no need to tarnish it even further ozzy. go on and tarnish your own reputation though, there's no saving that one anyway.

Thank fuck we live in age of ProTools, where even the shittiest, whiniest vocal line can be pitch-corrected, time-stretched and have that nasal midrange taken out of it. Of course, Dio wouldn't need any of that shit, but that's beside the point. Who needs a REAL singer when you can have a much more visible, drug-fucked walking joke who only got in the band in the first place because he owned a P.A.?

...I wish Matt Barlow could figure out a way to juggle his career in law enforcement and a singing gig. Ripper's a cool guy, but he's definitely no Barlow. You can't replace a baritone with a tenor (or a tenor with a baritone, as the Blaze Bayley years proved).
