ALICE IN CHAINS: Video Footage From Lisbon Show Posted Online - July 8, 2006
A short video clip of ALICE IN CHAINS' May 26 performance in Lisbon, Portugal — which, strangely enough, doesn't include any actual audio from the show — has been posted online at the band's official web site.

ALICE IN CHAINSJerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez and William DuVall (who is handling lead vocals for the group) — recently spent time on the road in Europe playing a series of club dates and festival appearances. The band will next perform the Udo Music Festival in Japan (July 22-23) before commencing a U.S. run of dates on July 29 at the KUFO Rockfest in Portland, Oregon.

I was and still am a big Chains fan, but I have to agree with tripj, this reborn Alice in Chains is kinda weak.
I mean, Layne WAS Alice in Chains.

No disrespect to Jerry Cantrell, ive seen him twice Solo, and they were both pretty damn good shows, but calling them selfs Alice in chains without layne is kind of a stretch...

(though who am I kidding, if they came to my City, I would go see them in a seccond.)

The sad fact is, Layne Staley WAS NOT Alice in Chains. To me he was the best singer in the world, but the truth of the matter is that Jerry wrote not only the music, but a lot of the lyrics too. Not to mention his vocal harmonies are on almost every song. As much as I'd like to say "Layne Staley WAS Alice in Chains" I don't think that's the case by any means.

I must admit, european rock shows look a lot more fun than rock shows here in the states. They also seem to get better tours/festivals.

I see where you're coming from. The lyrics ARE very personal and it's a little weird for someone else to be singing them. Kind of disrespectfull.

i saw chains with layne and he was an ass boring frontman. He stood at the mic clearly high out of his fucking tree barely budging through the concert. Jerry and mike looked over at him all the time to make sure he didn't die right then and there. He couldn't get his shit together for more than 10 minutes to put a tour together. ANyone else get stupid enough to buy the Kiss reunion tour tickets just to see alice in chains open up? Yeah i did, and instead what do i fucking get.. i think it was skid row, without bach just to make it all the worse... as if skid row wasn't bad enough of a disappointment.

It was a hard decision for them to go on for sure. one of the liner notes in the music bank set stated that alice in chains will always be a band so long as every member is living and breathing. Layne is dead, they moved on, maybe we should too. Duvall has laynes range which is great, he gets the crowd excited and gets them into the show and doesn't stand there too fucked out of his gourd to do anything.

near the end layne was a sloppy hack, watch the unplugged dvd, i think it's sludge factory where he fucksu p the lyrics and just ends the song in FUCK IT! clearly fuckin ripped out of his skull. The chances they gave that man were MANY! They could have replaced him like sabbath did ozzy when he was fucked up, or metallica with mustaine, but they kept the man around because he was a friend. What more can you ask??

This band IS alice in chains, i have no problem going to see them, and i personally hope they put out a new album.. kinneys perfect and tasteful drumming + Jerry's guitar work + mikes flowing basslines = alice in chains \m/

Layne was fucked up and had problems. That's why he was a passionate vocalist.

I've been a HUGE Alice in Chains fans since about 1993, way back when I was 12 years old. The thing that instantly captured me about Alice in Chains was the singer's voice. Never had a heard such a beautiful, haunting voice in the hard rock world. And to hear that beautiful voice singing about such dark things really made it that much more difficult to fathom. I would have expected a voice like that to be in some soft rock band singing about the woman of his dreams, not predicting a rainy forecast when he dies.

To me, Layne's voice and personality defined Alice in Chains. Regardless of the fact that Cantrell wrote much of the music and a good portion of the lyrics, he just didn't have the voice to get these words across with the same emotion that Layne did. Towards the end of their career, Layne was a shell of what he once was, in terms of both his voice and his body. But as long as he still had enough strength to sing, there would still be an Alice in Chains. But with him gone, that's no longer a possibility.

This guy DuVall seems like a decent singer, but it just doesn't seem like a good fit to me. He looks like he just stumbed off the set of American Idol. And for this guy to be singing songs that are so personal to so many people just isn't right. I'd prefer it if the remaining members of Alice in Chains just continued on under the name "Jerry Cantrell" or just pick another name. Even if DuVall stays in the band, still call it Jerry Cantrell. There's no way I'll purchase any new album under the name Alice in Chains.

Self Titled was an awesome album. Super grungy and dirty it terms of sound but there's a lot of great melody buried beneath all the crust. Some classic tunes on that one like "God Am." It'll take a few spins to get into but the best stuff always does.

AIC Stayed at the hotel where I worked in '93 while they were playing over an hour away at Lallapalooza. They asked us where to hang out and then surprisingly enough we all went to a local bar to play pool. I got to shoot some pool and talk with Layne for a while and was amazed at how menacing and heavy he looked on TV while in person he was a real goofy almost nerdy kind of guy with a sqeaky voice. He was one of the most down to earth and nicest people you could ever meet. Every one of them including Layne and Jerry were so humble and just mixed in with all of us and hung out all night in this small hole-in the-wall place called the Hustler in Indialantic, FL.

I was also a huge fan and was very sad when he passed. If any of you haven't given a good listen to Mad Season you owe it to yourselves to dive into that CD.

I know it will never be the same but there's no way I could fault the group for wanting to go on enjoying what they love.

truthbetold, You are a fucking idiot.
You and your superhuman knowledge about their motives.... you should try to read some stuff and further yourself before posting things that make you look like a 9 y/o.

Ive seen AIC during their European Tour that ended July 4th. Ive seen 3 great shows and it was obvious that the guys enjoyed doing it very much. On top of that, both Sean and Jerry have been very ill during this tour and stepped on stage nonetheless, for their fans. Whats more important than that? All clubshows were sold out and even at festivals there were decent crowds especially there for them, ranging from a LOT of fans (Waldrock), to just acouple of hundreds at the fucked up GnR show.

You think they make tons of $$$? well Im sure there's some money involved but the fact that they are not signed to any label also suggest the possibility of Jerry, Sean & Mike paying for everything.

And to whoever asked, Selftitled is a very good album. IMO it isnt as good as either Facelift or Dirt, but a good album for sure. Like someone above me said, it needs to grow on you, but once that happens, good songs like Grind, Again, Brush Away and God Am become great songs. Frogs btw is probably the darkest song every recorded by AIC, so this selftitled is most definitely a 'to buy' Id say.

On William DuVall, whatever your opinion of him, he did his fucking utmost to deliver the goods.. and it was good. I mean, we all agree that Layne was #1 .. William cant top that.. but he has a very wide range and a great stagepersona, despite this being the first 'big' tour of his career.
On top of that, Jerry and the boys stated that they tried out a lot of vocalists and that William was the best choice by far and one of the most talented singers out there. The fact that he also plays guitar allowed AIC to play other songs in their shows, that required multiple guitars.

I saw Jerry Cantrell's solo tour a few years ago and William Duvall was doing the vocals for some of the songs on the show. I have to say he is a pretty damn good singer especially with the AIC songs. I remember Cantrell getting all pissed though because no one was interested in his solo stuff but when they played an AIC song everyone went nuts.
