The day-to-day life of
Tim "Ripper" Owens is ripe material for a
VH1 reality series.
Owens, an Akron native with an awesome heavy-metal warrior voice, toured the globe for several years as frontman for
JUDAS PRIEST, playing to crowded arenas and major outdoor festivals.
Currently, the
Ripper's mighty pipes are in service to two internationally touring hard-rock bands,
ICED EARTH and
BEYOND FEAR. This spring, he spent a month performing across Europe with the latter as opening act for
ANTHRAX.
But when
Owens is off the road and at home in Kenmore, he's Mr. Mom all the way, chasing around after his two toddlers —
Timmy, 3, and
Taylor, 1. (His wife
Jeannie is an engineer who develops charter schools for an Akron firm.)
Just the other day,
Owens was riding his mountain bike down a Kenmore side street, pulling his children in a little two-seat trailer when he heard a guy yelling, "That's not heavy metal! That's not
JUDAS PRIEST!"
"It was a riot,"
Owens says, chuckling at the anecdote.
The only thing Satanic in this heavy-metallist's life is his ornery son,
Owens says with a chuckle.
"My son dances around in his underwear all the time to things like
SHAKIRA and
BEYONCE," he says. "Thank God he doesn't know what half the words mean. He loved the
PINK song
'Stupid Girl' and he'd be walking around the grocery going, 'Stupid girl, stupid girl.'
