Rare LED ZEPPELIN, THE WHO Recordings To See Light Of Day?
- July 17, 2006
|
|
According to the U.K.'s Times Online, up to 100,000 songs recorded and filmed between 1966 and 1991 by Bill Graham, the American concert promoter — including rare recordings by LED ZEPPELIN and THE WHO — may soon see the light of day. The collection languished in an underground basement in San Francisco for more than 10 years after Graham's death before it was bought by Bill Sagan, a health company executive turned rock entrepreneur, who has now launched negotiations aimed at securing the stars' permission to release their music. This weekend he was flying to London for talks with lawyers representing British rockers such as LED ZEPPELIN and THE WHO. The archive contains unseen footage of a legendary performance by THE WHO in 1973, when drummer Keith Moon collapsed and a student was picked from the audience to finish the show, and the final concert in 1978 by the SEX PISTOLS. There are unknown performances by LED ZEPPELIN such as a version of "Howlin' Wolf's Killing Floor", which they later rewrote as the "Lemon Song", and a tousle-headed ELTON JOHN singing his 1970 ballad "Your Song". hope they get that stuff released - it would be a shame if those recordings would continue to rot somewhere due to money issues.

300 YEARS FROM NOW, LED ZEPPELIN WILL BE ONE OF THE FEW BANDS THAT WILL STILL HAVE SIGNIFICANCE...AT LEAST IN A HISTORICAL ASPECT; THIS SO-CALLED SIGNIFICANCE OF LED ZEPPELIN WILL SOMEDAY BE TAUGHT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS THROUGHOUT THE FREE WORLD
THAT SAYS ALOT ABOUT THE OVERALL PRESENCE OF THIS BAND

these recordings would see the light of day, but for Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Page is a stickler for putting out stuff like this. in 25 years, Page has only put out 3 posthumous Zeppelin releases - the BBC Sessions, the "Led Zeppelin" DVD, and How The West Was Won. I've heard rumors that Page is considering possibly releasing a Madison Square Garden performance of Zeppelin from the early 70's.

But as stated Page will likely deny it's release! Zeppelin was known to have some off nights back in the day and thats why Page only release stuff he's directly invloved with.

Great - these vids will kill 1 or 2 out of every thousand viewers and go up in price about 15% every year.
plur
p.s. Zep need to release the '75 Earls Court shows in their entirety, and The Who need to put out Charlton 74 and Shepperton '78(Moon's last gig) in their entirety as well.

am 17, and after all of the great bands i have personally seen foo fighters, moterhead, queens of the stone age, muse, primal scream etc etc etc i am proud to say that i've seen the who. nearly over a week ago now at T in the Park. althoguh it was just roger and pete, for their age they were on great form and i thoroughly enjoyed especially compared to nearly 3/4 of the bands on the line up in which most were pish, the who made up for that along with a a few select of others, eg feeder, etc, n e ways i went home really happy while looking at a great fireworks display. the end :)

If I remember right, this guy bought the entire basement (more like warehouse) full of music stuff and spent years just cataloging it to see what he got. Most of it is for sale at http://www.wolfgangsvault.com.
