SEETHER Frontman Enters Rehab
- July 26, 2006
|
|
|
SEETHER frontman Shaun Morgan has checked himself in to an undisclosed rehabilitation center after having "admitted to himself and those close to him that he needs help and is making the proactive move to seek it," according to a press release from the band's label, Wind-Up Records. Following scheduled appearances this week, all future plans have been placed on hold until further notice.
Morgan, who has established himself as one of the leading singers in rock over the past five years, has made a personal choice to attack what he sees as a dependence on a combination of substances. The band had planned to tour in August with STAIND behind their recently released live acoustic album "One Cold Night". The opportunity to perform this repertoire in an acoustic setting is something the band hopes to do at some point in the future.
Morgan commented, "I'm deeply sorry that this news comes right before a planned tour, especially one that I was so excited about, and I hope that everyone understands. I need help with addictions that I can't kick on my own. These things are making me sick, and could potentially harm me permanently, so I need to take care of them as soon as possible. I hope the tour goes well, and we hope to be on the road again soon. Thank you again for your understanding and support."
Over the last two years, SEETHER has performed in excess of four hundred shows. Compounded with the stresses of promoting and supporting the "Karma & Effect" album, and then recording and promoting "One Cold Night" without any form of an extended hiatus, Morgan "has spread himself too thin and in turn made decisions he now regrets," according to the press release.

After being unlucky enough to hear this band, I'm surprised he can actually afford drugs and booze. I can only assume he was stealing cash from Amy Lee's purse, or perhaps wanking off hairy men at a truck stop gloryhole for coins.

It's not like he's got fucking cancer, you idiotic schmuck.
He's got pretty much everything he needs besides willpower. It's hard to feel sorry for a guy who, unhindered by talent, has inexplicably managed to carve himself into the psyche of folks into lowbrow rock music, only for him to fuck it up big time because he never got a hug.
Boo, fucking hoo.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say painkillers. Their the newest thing now, or its heroin but they really aren’t that different. I really like Seether so I hope he gets better. Addiction sucks. But if he is getting sick from a drug then its bad. I remember John Frusciante saying he use to shot to keep from getting sick, he wasn’t even getting high anymore he was so far down that road.

Glad to see that most you just wanted to waste some space and type that you don't like the band. How nice. Oh and on the drug tip, if you're not in a band and have no idea (except maybe from what you've seen on MTV's reality shows and what you've read in biographies of musicians...) what it's really like out in the industry. Try not to voice such a biased opinion. A lot of you seem to think its all cotton tails and cookie dough....but it's far from it. Yes, I'm biased, because I happen to work for these guys and have seen some of the best and worst situations happen to them. I have also worked for other bands as well and it's not just a "grunge" thing either. This is not, by any means, an excuse for him and his actions, but a statement from someone who is a bit closer to him than that of someone who has derived their opinion from what they've read on the pages of Spin, RollingStone, and whatever else is out there. Some people should not type let alone speak, again, my opinion....Good luck Spawn. All my best.

Nice story.
By "work for these guys", do you actually mean "I get paid" or "I humped a bass cab from the bus to the stage in return for a warm beer from the rider"?
I can only empathise with the grim reality of life that is Seether on the road. . Everything from the arriving to the venue in a luxury bus, from getting the roadies to do the soundcheck, the free food and drink, all the way through to having to actually TALK to people who are using their status in the media to promote your band. And that's BEFORE you have to go on the stage and plough through a set of hastily constructed songs to an audience of retards who wouldn't care if you were playing Polka as long as it's you on stage!
Sounds tough.
You get these crazy African guys complaining about droughts, infant mortality and famines, but they've never had to know the sheer horror of having to play guitar and sing for one hour every night. The thought of having to sign autographs or to engage in a "meet and greet" must turn their (empty) stomachs.
When you really think about it, drugs and booze must be the only sensible way out.

...have no idea what addiction really is. It's not something to sit around and make fun of or condemn. I hope the ones who are showing their asses here never have to face addiction. It's really hell and I should know. It's nothing to do with will power or weakmindedness..it sucks real bad to be an addict and personally I hope this guy cleans up and stays that way, even though it's hard to do. He can and will if he wants to. Good luck to him and anyone who is facing this monster.

the reason why i stopped looking at comments a while back is becuase the "purist" of metal can only like one or two bands and never another genre. even most metal bands listen to other stuff. You can't even look at metallica comments without people talking about how much they suck. No one can be like hey i dont like them but i respect what they've done. If it wasnt for bands like seether people would never get in to harder rock/metal and you know what it sucks being addicted to stuff, atleast he went in with his dignity and not in handcuffs

Shaun Morgan is one of the most talented singers in the world... and what song are you talking about in this: "their single for their last album sounded just like Nirvana"?
I've got all the Seether albums, and I can find several traces of Nirvana.... but it's called in influence (no pun intended), you dumbasses.
Also, Seether is a kick ass band. And when you say "Real Rockstars can handle their drugs..." No, they can't. They end up broke in an ally sucking cock for meth money, or dead. Think about it.
I, for one, hope Shaun gets a fast recovery from this (yes, I realize he's been released already), and wish him and the rest of Seether the best of luck in the future.

I seriously hope you're being sarcastic... because at shows they are usually on stage for around 1-3 hours, and there is about 95% of the time a "meet and greet"... but it's more like them running around backstage talking and beating the hell out of each other.
And concerning them "not playing every night", consider the fact that they played 400 shows in two years. Then, take into account the time it took to travel from one place to another, usually one or two days...
All in all, they're actually pretty nice guys, and they've got some serious talent.
I listen to Death Metal, Melo Death, Melodic Death, Black, Symphonic Black, Thrash, Heavy Metal, Doom, and Progressive, along with alot of "rock and roll". I'll admit Seether isn't metal, but Shaun's vocal style is amazing, and he's got an interesting approach to his scremas. Seether could be considered a metal beginners doorway into metal, as they're a little bit harder than most hard rock bands, and if you can catch on to his Abstract Vocals concept (my name for his warping of tones so quickly and slurring the screams to keep time), it's much easier to like pure metal.
