ALICE IN CHAINS: 'Essential' Collection Pushed Back To September

"The Essential Alice in Chains" ( Sony/ Legacy), a two-CD compilation that originally was slated to be released more than two years ago, has had its release date pushed back once again — this time to September 5 from the previously announced July 25. ALICE IN CHAINS — Jerry Cantrell, Sean Kinney, Mike Inez and William DuVall (who is handling lead vocals for the group) — will kick off a new run of U.S. tour dates on Saturday, July 29 at Columbia Meadows in Portland, Oregon.

What we have here is called double-dipping. Extremely common with DVDs but usually with DVDs with each successive edition there is always the addition of extras of some kind giving the buyer to trade up on editions.
This offering offers nothing that you wouldn't alreay have if you owed the catalog. And if you have the catalog, you could easily burn these yourself. But these selections don't really touch on the genius songwriting talents of Staley/Cantrell.
DIRT itself is pure and a perfect CD IMO. Even with Music Bank we got a few rarities but there has to be more that just hasn't been released. Jerry must have cans of demos just sitting in a vault. So until they release a b-sides and demos disc, I'll just be waiting for that day.

the fact that "Down In A Hole" isn't on it really makes me think of how much the band themselves have to do with this compilation.
i own all the original albums and EP's, the Unplugged, Live, Music Bank and even Nothing Safe plus a lot of rare live recordings downloaded from the internet.
as much as i love AIC (and hate kull) i'm not buying this, especially when i can throw a playlist just like it on my MP3 player

...out of that whole West Coast Grunge movement the only thing I ever liked was Pearl Jam's debut record. That is an awesome album start to finish. I don't really consider it metal though.

Hate to break it to you skippy, but Alice In Chains started off as Jerry's band. About the living on Layne's legend, that's a bunch of bullshit. Layne ruined his career along with everyone elses in the log run by his drug overdose. If Jerry, Mike, and Sean wanted to "cash in" on Layne's death, they would've replaced him as soon as he died. Now, correct me if i'm wrong, but aren't you one of those Megadeth fans? If so, you have no right to bitch about Alice In Chains not having an original member seeing as how Megadeth has none accept for Mustaine where as Alice In Chains has three including their founder.
