ZAKK WYLDE Discusses Possibility Of Playing DIMEBAG's Parts In PANTERA 'Reunion' - July 27, 2006

Blender.com has uploaded several Ozzfest-related features/interviews, including a two-part video interview with Zakk Wylde in which he discusses how he auditioned for Ozzy, Sharon Osbourne's hate for his beard, havoc with golf carts and Rob Zombie at Ozzfest, unreleased material that he has of Dimebag Darrell, the possibilty of filling in for Dime if PANTERA ever reunited and more. 	Having that asshole "biker" hack fill in for Dimebag would be a fucking disgrace to thrash as well as blasphemous. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind seeing a one-off Pantera reunion show or whatever (although it's NEVER going to happen) but with relevant guitarists to the band/genre such as Kerry King or Gary Holt or someone. Kind of like what they were talking about doing with Voivod, having influenced, relevant musicians play their tribute to Piggy at a potential concert.

	Maybe a few years from now a small tribute tour would be cool. Various guitarists doing a song or two each at most. A "reformed" Pantera with Sack Wylde on guitar would be horrible IMO. I understand the sentiment, but it would just be a watered-down version of the real thing... Much like the new version of Alice in Chains.

	Phil needs to be shown some love. First off, the shit he said about Dime and Vinnie was just shit to stir up the pot and keep the flicker of interest in the Pantera reunion. When Vinnie died that was a huge blow to Phil finacially. But not only that, he lost a true friend. I don't know if any of you have ever lost a friend while you were in the middle of a disagreement, but I have, and it sucks. But at least I was able to go to the funeral and get some kind of closure. Not Phil, they completely iced him out. And that was wrong. And to top it off, Vinnie is still talking shit about Phil, to no response. The way Phil has handled this has really changed my opion of him. There has been nothing but selfless actions since. Hell, the guy pulled his person website immediately after the shooting and left an open letter to the fans about his thoughts on the issue. Did he ever really hate Dime? No. Were they angry at each other? Yes. Would there have been a Pantera reunion down the line? No doubt. Should there still be? Absolutely. Time will heal the wounds. I am sure Rex will eventually help to bring Vinnie and Phil toghether, as he should. A Pantera tour in tribute to Dime would help everyone involved heal. It would be good for Phil, Vinnie, Rex, and the fans. I know that I have felt cheated since that day. But for all you people that are spreading negative energy on the subject, let it go. Put yourself in Phil's shoes. Imagine having someone who was very close to you for a long period of time taken away in such a manner. Imagine not being able to say goodbye and even being investigated to whether or not you had a hand in the issue. It's time for everyone involved to move on.

	I'm glad to hear it was the interviewers idea not Zakks. I like Zakk enough even though I'm not the biggest BLS fan. But it's been stated and argued and let me just say. Zakk is no Dime. I'm not saying this because I'm biased, in fact I think Pantera only had two excellent albums. Or because I'm one of these people who overstates his ability because of his death. The thing with Dime was it's hard to overstate his abilities. The guy was a virtuoso. He was banned from Texas talent shows because he was too dominate at like age 15. It doesn't matter if you are the biggest Pantera supporter or hate everything they did. Dimebag was fucking amazing. There are only a few guitarists that could do this, and I don't think Zakk is one of them.

	That interviewer is an idiot. He sounds like he has no idea what he is talking about. Although it is a cool thought, sadly it will never happen. What I always thought would be cool though is that if Vinnie and Phil ever made up, and Vinnie would let Phil sing on the recording that were supposed to be Damageplan 2, for one last Pantera album. That would be the shit. Imagine how badass that would be. Some of the songs off of New Found Power would have slayed with Phil on vocals (Fuck You, Moment of Truth, Crawl)

	I can play dimes stuff by ear, thats including solos. I have perfected cowboys, and primal concrete sludge. currently learning psycho holiday. Zakk shit I actually have to look at the music and most of it is pretty fucking tricky. If you are a actuall musician like I am and can do scales in different keys, know and use a maj 7, 9, 7, sus 7, min, min7, etc. chords while using distortion like I do and not just different patterns of a 5 or power chord you'll know what I'm talking about and that dimes music is pretty fucking easy compared to zakks. I respect him but he was not great. Satriani>Rhoads>EVH>Zakk>Kerry>Dime>Iommi>Hendrix>Page>SRV>Angus. I rest my case.

	how do some of you know zakk doesnt explore other styles? how do you know he isnt capable of doing anything beyond the guitar work on BLS? im curious. i know he's open to all kinds of music for sure because i learned that from his interview. in addition, just because someone else's guitar parts are harder doesnt make one great. i've heard guitarists who use fewer notes in their solos and whatever, but i still have a lot of feeling. and ive heard some complicated work that doesnt.

	As much as I'd like to see this happening at some point, it won't happen. Yes, I do believe Zakk could fill Dime's chucks and I also believe Dime would be thrilled to see this being real. Someone said here that any possible idea of a Pantera reunion died with Darrell and I'm agreed with that too. If this happens: Will Rita or Vinnie will forget Anselmo's statements/he said/she said arguments? I don't think so. Why 2 guitars? Who the fuck dare saying something like that? That would NOT be Pantera.
