METALLICA: High-Quality Video Of New Song Available Online

A high-quality video clip of METALLICA performing an as-yet-untitled new song during their headlining appearance at the Gelredome in Arnhem, Holland on June 8, 2006 as part of their recently completed "Escape From The Studio '06" European tour has been posted online at YouTube.com. More clips of the Arnhem show can be found at this location. As was the case with all the other concerts on the band's European tour, METALLICA played their entire 1986 album, "Master of Puppets", during the Arnhem concert, including rarely performed tracks such as "Orion" and "Disposable Heroes". "Master of Puppets" came out in the spring of 1986 and was METALLICA's first gold album and mainstream success. It featured staples of the band's live set such as "Battery", "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)" and the title track. It was also the last METALLICA album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who was killed later that year in a tour bus crash. METALLICA is currently writing material for its ninth studio effort, which is tentatively expected in the summer or early fall of 2007. "I think we've realized that the creative process works a little slower for us than it used to, and we're OK with that," METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich recently told BBC Radio 1. "It's not a bad thing, unless, of course, you're waiting for a record."

Horrible vocals, great solo. I haven't ever really liked Metallica but I respect their contribution to metal/hard rock. Cliff Burton was one of the greatest bass players that ever strapped on the instrument. As others have said, a step in the right direction for them, but Hetfield's going to need some heavy vocal clean-up in studio.

I was originally savng my 1st post for an important band but I thought I'd watch this clip for a laugh, I never have been a Metallica fan but I respect the fact that somewhere along the line they used to make good music, but like someone said, this is a song I would expect to see from a shitty local band, and then I still wouldnt like it. I'll admit, there was a nice solo though, or, maybe the rest of the song just made it sounds nice.
Oh and if this song was done by Maiden for thier up-coming album, I would be furious, but I know I can trust them to still put out good music these days, so that would never happen

So I think this is a good song. It's definately better than anything they've written in a while but Lars' drums can be lame at certain points. I think instead of slowing down, he should bring back what he does best which is the thrash beat. I think this song had potential to be a thrasher...I wish I could tell Metallica that. haha but I hope Rick slaps some thrash out of them.

The intro to the that song did sound a lot like shitty-era Slayer (aka 1997-2001) and if you look James is slowly morphing into Kerry King. Dropped-tuned chug riffs, a lot of tattoos, big ass goatee, and funny cock-eyed head shakes when playing.

I've been a fan of this band since the early 80's, and unlike many of the newer metal fans I think Metallicas weekest albums was 'load' and 'reload'.
To me the first versions I heard of this song had to many similarities with those albums. Musically I think the song is improving from the first time I heard it. It's not as repetitive as the first version, but they gotta work on the vocallines in the verses.

while the footage is new, this version of the song is older than the one available on livemetallica.com
theyve since changed the verse and the solo has a lot more direction. i think this was the 2nd time it was played, the last time they played live they played this song again, the verses are more aggressive, they were tighter and james knew what he was singing this time.
this version vocally is very poor, it sounded like james was unsure of what he should be singing, and its obvious now why the changed the verse vocal melody

THEY BETTER BE HUGE AS FUCK THEY ARE MANAGED BY Q-PRIME. (better or worse is subjective). NOT REALLY WHEN YOU HAVE TO PLUNK DOWN A HALF HOURS WAGE FOR A IMPORT CD.
Every CD i have in my collection is better that Master of Puppets, in terms of every aspect listed above.
Metallica leads, the rest follow (most of all Mustaine :-P )
FALSE STATEMENT...METALLICA HAS NOT BEEN A FACTOR IN HEAVY METAL, FOR OVER A DECADE AND A HALF NOW.
Most CD's purchased since 1991 does not even have a Metallica reference in the bands sound. So kind of a strange and bizarre comment there.

I like it...definately a step in the right direction. It still baffles me why everyone thinks "St. Anger" is the worst thing ever. At least it was heavy, which is more than you can say about that piece of shit "Reload" album. Worst $8 i ever spent on a used CD!!!
I'm also glad that they finally have a good bass player in the band again. Fuck Newstead and fuck Supernova!

The song was okay; a song that seems like a leftover from St. Anger. Load wasn't all bad, but the production made it seem worse than it was.
Still, I like the solo parts and the fast bits after. Other than that I could take or leave this one. If I heard it on free radio I wouldn't turn it off.

It's St. Anger w/ a solo. The song is dragged out to hell. How many times can you just go back and forth between 2 riffs? Metallica has to realize that going "back to their roots" does not mean just putting together 8 minute songs for the hell of it.

Sounds okay, besides the vocals.
Most people here forget that music comes from inside, it's not a fucking set of rules that you have to follow. The band has obviously changed since the 1980's, and they're not going to be producing the same music in 2006 that they were way back then.
Besides, it's better to have a variety rather than countless Ride The Lightning's with a new name.

This is MY review... MY THOUGHTS
Before I write I have to address the fact that I AM a Metallica fan... I have been since I was a kid... I've been to many many metallica shows... and YES I DO own all of their albums, including the infamous St.Anger album
1. I liked the opening, it sounded kinda promising
2. Then they started to play those cheesy ass sounding riffs.....
3. The vocal sounded ok at first but since the verse riff sounds cheesy the vocals dont sound like it fits or it sounds like James is trying hard to make them fit
4. The chorus sounds like shit......i mean the lyrics are corny.... they sound like they are the left overs from St. Anger...I mean come on... "NOT THE END>>> NOT THE END.....SUFFOCATE??? Any fourth graders can rhyme.... be more creative than that...
5. The solo is back! I'm sure Kirk will be working on it. Hopefully he'll be creative.... In the other version of this song he sounds a lot like him in the Black album, which is good and bad at the same time but still its better than nothing
6. Lars trying to double bass... he souldn't try to follow what all the other bands are doing at this moment...double bass is kinda old now... but it sounded tight and fast
Overall
Am I the only one that's thinking how the fuck did they write a song like "No Leaf Clover" in 98-99??? I mean why can't they write something like that????? There really isnt anything new to this song... It's them doing another St.Anger song... I'm f'ing dying to hear their new album but at the same time i'm thinking, "am I gonna hear another album that has ten 15 minute songs?" I think No Leaf Clover is a song that they sould be going after.... The song has a bit of Metallica and also the modern Metallica.... Does anyone agree with this shit??????????
I'm just praying that this will not be the end for their career like the chorus suggests

I think the song is good and all but as much as I admire James for what he's done since Kill Em All, he has lost a lot of his vocals or should I say his good vocals. His voice has gone downhill after the black album. I donno how to really explain how he sounds but he just doesnt sound right when he sings anymore. Theres a few points here and there where he uses his lower/throaty vocals but besides that it just doesnt fit with the music.
As for the song itself, it is a step in the right direction, but it does at the same time have elements of St Anger and we all know how we feel about that album. I would do whatever I can to stay away from that ST Anger guitar sound period. Drums are cool, double bass needs to be more clear but it is live so whatever. And you can hear Trujillo too which is always positive. But regardless, im glad its faster with a more thrashier sound you could say and im definately glad there's a solo, which is a rather good one. All in all, im more intrigued then I was before and I just hope that James figures things out with his voice cause it really doesnt matter to me if the music is awesome. I mean theres no consistency in his vocals. Its high and higher and all over the place. Watching him sing the past few years hasnt been that good, not talking about only this video. I think the musicianship is there for them to make a good decent record. But are the vocals there too?? I dont know.. we shall see......

If Metallica made songs that sound the same on each album year after year after year, up until now in 2006.If they all sounded the same people would be complaining that Metallica is getting boring and dull and be asking for a new sound. But I havent heard anyone say Metallica is getting boring so they must be doing something right. And besides,Metallica has made new and different sounds and people still complain.Either way,if they would stay the same or change,theres gonna be complaints about it.

to have tool on the same stage as metallica is a sin, tool didnt create a genre and all the tool songs nowadays have the same exact bass line. Yes tool has a great drummer and yes i would say he is better then lars but to compare the two bands is a sin. Metallica was thrash, tool is more towards progressive rock, progressive meaning in my words showing off the technical skills. Well if we are going by technicality Metallica destroys tool. Lars isnt out to prove he is the best drummer and probably doesnt care if he is, he just wants to play the music that he and the other band members love.. To tell you the truth can u tell me what Metallica songs sound alike... didn't think so, but every tool songs sounds like the last one i heard. So if u get tired of reading this boring post, don't put Metallica and Tool in the same sentence there is no comparison.

Oh ya and for the record, I love how people think a Metallica record is good just because it was released by Metallica. Face it, Load, Re Load, and St. Anger were terrible. my computer is slow as shit but, what I heard sounds promisung. I really wish they would ditch the baritone guitars though. They just don't sound right. The riffs sound tighter and, more crisp in standard. Just my opinion. I'm looking forward to the new cd.... just as I'm looking forward to the new Megadeth cd, Iron Maiden, etc. You see, I'm not one of those douchebags who feels he can only pick one band to like and must, therefore bash all others. I reserve the right to dig as many bands as I like... and, get this... in multiple GENRES too... Crazy, I know....

On Metallica.(re)/Load, they abandoned the speed. Now I know that St. Anger is debatable(?), but they targeted old school fans with the return of the faster pace and Pushead artwork. This new song is the next step in that direction.
Metallica made the first 7 releases (KEA,GDRV,RTL,MOP,GDRRV,and AJFA) classics. Now we can either appriciate the new Metallica taking the speed back into play or we can pass it off as trash.
Personally, I got what they were doing with SA, but everyone has a different POV
