ROB ZOMBIE's 'Halloween' Gets An Official Release Date
- Aug. 3, 2006
|
|
|
Dimension Films has set an October 19, 2007 release date for Rob Zombie's new version of the classic 1978 horror film "Halloween".
Zombie recently said that his movie won't be a sequel to the original film, but he left the details a little vague. Would the movie then be a prequel or a straight remake? Zombie told Launch that his "Halloween" will be a little bit of both. "I basically went back and just came up with the idea of basically — not essentially a remake, but a very extended prequel sort of combined with an update, say, of the first film," he said. "You're starting from scratch but in sort of a more detailed way. That's the way I thought it would be exciting for fans of the original, because it's not just the same old thing, and it would be exciting for people that never saw the original."
The original "Halloween" was directed by John Carpenter and followed a masked murderer named Michael Myers who comes back to his hometown to begin a new killing spree decades after being committed to an asylum.
Zombie said that other characters from the original, in addition to Myers, would appear in his script, which is in its early stages.
Production on the film could begin later this year.
Zombie will begin a co-headlining trek with GODSMACK on August 25 in Dallas.

If Zombie says that Michael Myers would appear in the script, he's got it wrong already. Michael Myers has never appeared in any script for Halloween.

Michael Myers ISN'T in any Halloween script. What the hell do you think The Shape IS? That's what he's called in the script. You should have fucking known that since you're apparently the resident Halloween expert. So, maybe it's you who should think about something before you type it. Or, better yet, go fucking read a book so you'll KNOW what you're typing.
BlizzardofRhoads, there's ANOTHER Halloween DVD out? Man, Anchor Bay doesn't quit. They already did a feature-length documentary on the 25th anniversary DVD. It sucks that they don't have the rights to all of the Halloween movies, they would have put out an awesome box set if they did.

This Documentary covers all the movies (1 through 8)and has interviews with 80 peoplethat were either in the haloween series or somehow connected to Horror movies. Clive Barker and Rob Zombie are even in it.
They actually cover "Halloween III: The Season of the Witch" and why it didn't include Michael Myers.
They about the "Original" Halloween 6 (A.K.A. Halloween 666)version that wasn't released in the theaters and why they changed the last 45 minutes before it got released.
Why Halloween 5 sucked......
They cover it all.

the story for Halloween was incredibly simple, not to mention stupid, and the reason it worked was due to the vision of Carpenter; the shot/lighting composition, the atmosphere, the camera movements etc. the reason the 'copycats' never worked anywhere near as well is because they focussed more on the killings, and not the atmosphere. most of us know this. But Zombie is in a corner here, because if he takes the latter option, it probably won't go down too well with the young audience, but if he pushes the other angle(i.e violence), it will as mindless and stupid as all the Halloween clones were. it is going to be interesting for sure, but i'm not expecting too much.

I agree with Self_Science. The movie will probably disappoint fans of the original. However, it will probaly make a nice profit. These horror remakes will continue as long as money is be made. Can't blame the studios really, but unfortunately the remakes tend to tarnish the legacy of the original. I wouldn't mess with the original, but I hope I'm proven wrong.

First post causes the ruckus. Velvet Kevorkian knew exactly what I was talking about. The rest of you who aren't Halloween fans don't need to care about such little details, but if Rob Zombie purports to be such a fan of the series, then he'd better get the small details RIGHT!

Is The Hills Have Eyes remake. That fucking destroyed the original. Even Wes Craven admits that. I'm normally not a fan of remakes, but that one was absolutely fantastic. Having said that, I'll definitely check Zombie's remake of Halloween, but I'm not expecting much. If he does half as good as the remake of The Hills Have Eyes he'll be on the right track.

I REALLY feel you’re off the mark. HILLS 05 was so weak! The GREAT remake of HILLS is called WRONG TURN…
Craven is wronger about that comment than he was when he claimed SHOCKER was his best film yet (we all know that was CURSED, hahahaha)

Metallicore88 is so right!
I'm still looking forward to it a lot -- HOUSE of 1000 CORPSES and DEVILS are awesome...
...saw the cast from DEVILS and a showing of the flick on a "drive-in" screen this past weekend...KICKASS
Most of the real life REJECTS were pretty wasted from the Hotel bar by the time of the movie showing (about 11)...Sid Haig and that wonderfully creepy Berryman dude were especially way cool and sweet to people

this is a lofty undertaking. Devil's Advocate was kind of a let down, as are most "horror" movies, these days. The Hills Have Eyes was awesome. Halloween, in general, is a great movie. I hope Rob does'nt fuck it up. I hope he stays true to John Carpenter's original vision, ie: cinematography, camera angles, lighting, suspense, etc, rather than just going for the gratuitous "kill", all the while adding a NEW dimension to the "prequel/remake" to update the feel of the film.
this is why I feel it is a lofty undertaking. Btw, the very last Halloween, with Busta Rhymes? SUCKED MY ASSHOLE. I don't even count it as a part of the series. And believe me, the series is a family favorite. Ok, well, three out of six ain't bad.

A)The name "Michael Myers" appears in multiple times in the shooting scripts for all 7 Myers-centered HALLOWEEN entries, including the original. Once Michael dons the iconic mask and begins stalking his victims, he is referred to as "the Shape". But it is inaccurate to say that his real name does not appear in the scripts, and it is both pretentious and wrong to try and "correct" Rob Zombie on this point. Michael is certainly not referred to as "the Shape" when he's a boy, and Zombie has said that his film will deal with that part of Myers' background.
B)John Carpenter isn't pissed in the least. He's given Zombie his blessing, based on a discussion of the preliminary planned elements of the project. Further, Carpenter says he has no problem with HALLOWEEN sequels in general, in that he receives a check every time one gets made. He may not like the films themselves, but he's hardly pissed that other filmmakers continue to make him money and make him look like a genius.

...straight from the original HALLOWEEN script:
"CLOSE SHOT -- MICHAEL -- CRANE
The father's hand reaches up and rips off the Halloween mask, revealing MICHAEL, 6, underneath, a bright-eyed boy with a calm, quiet smile on his face. CAMERA PULLS BACK, revealing the blood-stained butcher knife in his hand, then further back, CRANING UP past his parents standing there, up from the neighbor's house to a HIGH SHOT of the neighborhood as the sounds of POLICE SIRENS rise in the distance."
Opening scene, friends. "Michael", not "Shape". No mistaking it. The character is also referred to as "Michael" or "Michael Myers" in all subsequent dialogue (in all 7 Myers-related films), in the flashbacks in H2 and the script for the scenes added for the NBC TV print of the original. In other words, the words "Michael Myers" appear in every HALLOWEEN script at more than one point, except for SEASON OF THE WITCH.
So if you're going to take issue with Rob Zombie's involvement in this film, find something legit to criticize him for.
