TOOL Fans Crushed At San Diego Concert

According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, at least 15 people were injured when thousands of rock fans surged forward at a San Diego performance by TOOL. The Los Angeles band was the headliner Saturday night at the Street Scene 2006 music festival in the parking lot of the Qualcomm Stadium, the newspaper reported Sunday. There were few details on the incident, but witnesses reported seeing a stream of fans being carried out on stretchers. "We've had quite a few injuries," said San Diego fire Battalion Chief Chris Brainard, shortly before midnight. "We have probably 15 patients transferred to area hospitals and we're still making determinations on (the condition of) others." Brainard attributed the injuries to the thousands of fans packed near the front of Street Scene's Zaranda Stage, where TOOL began its performance at 10:36 Saturday night. The crush of fans grew so great that midway through the band's second song, lead singer Maynard James Keenan stopped singing and said: "Step back so you don't get trampled. It's just rock." Keenan repeatedly implored the crowd to step back, even before a uniformed city official conferred with him on stage. I saw Tool a while back and it was impossible to breathe, let alone move. I have no idea why the crowd seems to push so hard at Tool shows...
They're used up anyways. The new cd sucks.

The fact that a crowd would get that frenzied...at a TOOL concert!?...just kinda boggles the mind. Yeah, they're a decent band with a few great songs, and yeah, their live performance SOUNDS excellent, but there's absolutely no on-stage energy to pump up the fans. Seriously.

this is really unfortunate when a band a band has to stop playin because the crowd can't have consideration for others within it... this remids me of when limp bizkit got sued for that chick dying in australia for the same thing... like if a band has to stop playing because of this... then what the fuck is going on man. fanatics! take it easy at shows man, give people some room and pick the ones who fall right the fuck back up... getting trampled or crushed in a pit during a shw you really wanna see fuckin sucks man... its unenjoyable! i hope these people are ok, man!

What a surprise, Blabbermouth people calling Tool 'talentless'. Maybe if you didn't judge a bands talent by how many notes they can play in a minute you'd realise that Tool are one of the most talented and original bands on the planet today.
I might actually be the first person to make a response which is actually relevant to the article when i say it's pretty cool that Maynard did what he could to control the crowd. Most bands are too busy telling people to beat the shit out of eachother to care.
And before any idiots try to pigeonhole me as someone who listens to 'emo' or whatever else it's cool to hate on now, don't bother. I listen to all kinds of music from heavy metal to reggae, listening to just one genre only means you're limiting yourself.

Why do Tool fans think that anybody who doesn't like Tool are "dumb" or they "don't get it". Understanding Tool's music doesn't make you "smart".

I don't consider anyone "dumb" for not liking Tool. However i think anyone calling them talentless is clearly lacking in the intelligence department. As for all the people saying the fans deserve to be crushed for liking Tool, well i don't think i need to justify why i think they're idiots.
People on here just seem to label anything that doesn't have the words "corpse", "gore", "death" or "satan" as shit. Just look at all the ratings for albums - you'll never find an album that is rated higher by the users than it is by the BBmouth people. Why? Because people probably don't even listen to it in the first place, or they might not like it much so just rate is as 1 instead of recognising that it might not be the best thing ever, but it still has merit.
I might not like Avenged Sevenfold but i'm not stupid enough to think they're talentless.

Tool had a run of pretty good albums from Undertow to Lateralus. they waited 5 years, then released the steaming turd known as 10,000 days, which sounded like a bunch of b-sides for Lateralus. they're through, much like Metallica, Megadeth, Sepultura, Slayer and countless other bands, yet I bet they still keep going because there are tools such as half the people in this thread who will just eat up anything the band does without questioning their ability to produce listenable music.
it's pathetic, but what can you do other than laugh at these idiots?

Tool is not the best thing to ever happen to rock, but its amazing how many people on this "metal" site think that its untalented to have Maynards great voice, but it makes you the best frontman of all time to scream and shout like a fucking moron. Tool is better than Cannibal Cock, Sepultra, Norma Jean or any other "metal" bands. You fucking losers.

I came to blabbermouth like so many others to try to get information on bands since everyone who has the internet obviously can't find anything better to do than to post meaningless shit about their lives and luckily information and hear say about bands. I start trying to find information on bands that played the Summer Sonic Festival and this is what I come accross, alot of close minded stupid fucks. Yeah I can understand if you find Tool boring and Maynard whinny because you can't appreciate what he says undoubtebly because you are still at a third grade reading level and some of his vocabulary and word play and metaphors are a little too deep to comprehend, sorry the guy can actually sing in key with a nice clear voice and doesn't try to blow his throat out on a daily basis, I'm sure it would be so much better if he was like the singer from Avenged Sevenfold who now sounds like Axel Rose and tries to rip him off because he blew his vocal chords out. And perhaps I understand why you would consider Adam Jones to be untalented since you uncoordinated monkeys can only judge guitar skills by the quanity and number of scales that can be performed in a minute as another reader stated before, obviously poly rhythms and tone quality as well as melody to the rest of the band means nothing. But I still don't understand how you can down the rhythm section. Justin is an absolute god on bass, he pulls off bass lines that I'm sure even the great Cliff Burton could have appreciated as well as anyone else who knows anything about how to play bass. And as for Danny Carrey the man is a god among men. He is one of the most influential modern drummers ever. He has taken tabula style tribal drumming and mixed it with Jazz type improvisation and can still rock out as hard as anyone else, just because he doesn't play 600 bpm on double bass straight doesn't mean he isn't talented, if you stupid fucks knew anything about music you might understand that is just endurance not originality and surely not talent. Why don't you fuckers learn something about music theory or anything about playing and you'll see why alot of people understand Tool to be a very talented band, no you don't have to like what they say or how they do it but to deny the fact that they are talented is absurd.
