TOOL: Video Footage Of STREET SCENE Incident Posted Online
- Aug. 7, 2006
NBCSanDiego.com reports that video footage has surfaced of the incident Saturday night (August 5) when nearly 100 fans were hurt after thousands of rock fans surged forward at a San Diego performance by TOOL. [Watch the video footage at NBCSanDiego.com.]
The Los Angeles band was the headliner Saturday night at the Street Scene 2006 music festival in the parking lot of the Qualcomm Stadium. The group had just taken the stage.
"Everyone was getting pushed up toward the front," said Eric Hanau, who was at the show. "People were getting crushed."
In the end, more than a dozen people went to the hospital after being crushed. One person is being treated tonight for life-threatening injuries.
Multiple ambulances and paramedics were sent to the venue in the Qualcomm Stadium parking lot when the crowd got out of control
Home video of the event shows the crowd before TOOL came onstage.
"The crowd was getting real hyped, chanting 'TOOL,' " Hanau said.
But at the end of the first song, the band stopped playing.
"What they were saying was, 'Back up — take two steps back. It's better than somebody's life,' " Hanau said.
Witnesses said they saw injured people stumbling out of the crowd as TOOL's lead singer, Maynard Keenan, told the audience to "Mellow out — it's just rock 'n' roll."
The lead singer of the band AFI said basicaily the same thing happened during Street Scene two years ago. That night, fans piled up when part of the stage collapsed. Several people were brought to the hospital after that incident.
"The music is so intense, it just gets people's adrenaline flowing so much," Hanau said. "People get so focused on the music and the lyrics."
After stopping for several minutes, TOOL starting playing again and finished their set.

It's shit like this that keeps me from going to most concerts. You have thousands of idiots who can't control themselves the second they hear some music. That stupid caveman mentality is typical of all these teenage wannabe metalheads.

Tool is extremely lame. Great drummer, but that's it. Lot of "Tool sheep" running around these days.
As far as progressive/technical music goes, I'll take Rush, Dream Theater, and Opeth.

you cant compare Primus to Pink Floyd or Rush....their completley unique
COMMENT | Don't Mess with Primus posted by : dayofdarkness 8/7/2006 4:27:20 PM
You should never mess with Primus because you have no idea who in this band is a EX-Possessed !!!!!!!!! his name is Larry LaLonde (guitar) Larry LaLonde was also in this old band Blind Illusion which is disbanded.
Primus and Possessed rule!!!!!!

I really must ask, if you're willing to admit it, what year you were born. I imagine that both maiden and Slayer were breaking new ground in metal well before you were even conceived. You must remember that these stereotypes or cliches as you call them were originally invented by these bands, so I think they have every right to still play the style of music that they were so instrumental in defining in the first place.
He's obvioulsy 16 years old if he thinks Slayer blows and Tool is the best band all time...

this is a very interesting discussion. I don't think that at any point did I call Tool's musicianship, technicality, or originality into question. On the contrary, I give Tool very high marks in all three areas. I will say that Tool needs to be very careful to not fall into the same repetitive trap that you say that Slayer has. Truth be told, although I like the band a lot, 10,000 days sounds an aweful lot like Lateralus to me. I honestly don't think that Tool broke any new ground whatsoever on this latest album. If their next album follows the same pattern, I hope you will be prepared to admit that they too have become a cliche of themselves.
Back to slayer for a second, I suppose that we will have to agree to disagree about how original they were in the beginning. I was in high school when their first album came out and I, along with a whole lot of other people, found their sound to be very new and exciting. Thrash metal in its recorded form was still pretty sparse back then and, although some people may disagree with me, I think that Slayer's initial recorded output sounded far more like what thrash would grow into than even Metallica's first album, or the early demos from Exodus, Death Angel, Anthrax, etc.

Yes, I do think that Slayer's albums sound the same, and I don't have a problem with that, just like I don't have a problem with 10,000 Days sounding like Lateralus. My point is that Tool seems to be heading down the same road as Slayer and, if you have a problem with Slayer doing it, then logic dictates that you should have a problem with tool doing it if that is indeed the direction that they continue in. And yes, I have absolutely no interest in a name calling contest. We both have strong opinions and there's nothing wrong with that.

Tool is a great band and I hope everyone involved is going to be okay. This is why shows aren't usually held in parking lots. Sounds like a change of venue is needed. I have tix to the August 27th show at the Gorge where none of us trample each other.
"and to you "deadforeSkin Mask" u need to remove slayers collective, metaphorical penis from your ass, and get on with it, you're fuckin GAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Hey, C'mon now man, there is no need to get so excited and hurtfull. I only made an edjucated assumption that you were young. I didnt insult you in anyway, so why dont you keep you mouth shut, there is no need for insults unless YOU have been insulted. Especialy when you are resorting to calling People (me, in this case) "GAY". Why dont you go ahead and say that I live in my "Mommy's Basement".
Why dont you voice an opinion that does not make people think that you have the intellect of a 10th grader with a head full of mushrooms. All you accomplish by calling people " fuckin' GAY" on this site is loose credibility and no one will give a shit about your opinions anyways.
Grow up pal... Are you NEW Here or something?
Oh, and for next time, dont insult me unless it is justified. I am more than willing to engage in a mature conversation with you, but judging by your response, you are Incabable of the same...

I hope you are making a joke, or at least realize the irony in faulting something for being cheesy while supporting Iron Maiden, perhaps the cheesiest band of all time.

"Well Said Chap"....
...No I am Not British, but I thought it fit quite well will your response. You obvioulsy CAN have a "mature conversation", which I origianly had my doubts about, after seing your first post directed at me.
You Said...
"secondly, you're ridiculous and incredibly ignorant assumption that i am "obviously 16 years old," is grounds for an insult, because that statement is well............fuckin stupid."
Dude, You Claimed that "N'SYNC>SLAYER"? Yes, I realise that its a joke, and noone that would ever even think of visiting this site for any reason would think this, but gimme a break. You mean to tell me that you being ...what? 28 years Old? Aprox? Have no respect for the work Slayer has done, or still currently does? They are a coner-stone band in the history of "Thrash-Metal", arguably the greatest form of all metal. (which of course there is alot). Regardles of what the you think about thier new music, there is no denying what they have done for the biz... They are the type of band that can never win in this new age of metal re-emergence. If they Make new music that is true to thier roots, people just say... "blah, blah, blah, Smae 'ol Slayer,.,.. When the fuck are they going to try something new...they have sounded the same for over 20 years...booo...hoo...." however if they DO change thier sound in ANY WAY, then people go ahead and say "Slayer are a bunch of bitches!! They SOLD OUT!, fuck Nu-Slayer". Its a lose-Lose situation. But enough about defending Slayer. you mocked me becuase I have a Slayer Song As My Name, but if you must know, Metal is not even my favorite form of music. I just think Slayer is one of the greatest Metal band of all time. At least they didnt turn out like Metallica...
but Seriously , Calm down dude...its just a web site... I still respect Tool, But honestly, its just a band that I could Never get into. Alot of My friends are into them, And I downloaded thier entire Discography, and gave it a solid effore, but I just couldnt get into them. They are like Modern Day Progressive rock, But If I was to go with anything that style from this generation, I think I would Take Radiohead over tool. Go aheda and insert joke Here... but I have seen both bands live twice, and radiohead just writes better songs, and they are as creative as tool in any of thier performances. They dont need freak shows and Videos on the stage to distract people from what is being played musically.
Anyways, im done here... Ive been rambling to long about stupid shit... Just chill out and have a good time here, dont be so quick to be an asshole...
there is probably typo's everywhere, i dont feel like reading the thing over...

i was one of the 15 people taken to the hospital and i still cant use my right arm. i was at the very bottom of a large stack of people and i have numerous large gashes and bruises on my left side. and no, not everyone is there to try and beat someone else's ass or because tool is the "cool" band. i was there to enjoy the music and to see a great performance (i saw tool in 2002 and had a killer time). when i realized i was a little too close and wanted to get away from the front was when i got knocked over and couldnt get up. i eventually gave up trying to push the people off of me and i blacked out. long story short, stuff happens. get over it. and dont go running your mouth unless you were there. you just sound ignorant and look like an asshole.
