IRON MAIDEN: New Song 'Different World' Posted Online - Aug. 10, 2006
IRON MAIDEN's new song "Different World" has been made available for streaming at this location.

The opening track on MAIDEN's upcoming album "A Matter of Life and Death", "Different World" is the shortest song on the CD at a mere four minutes.

"It wasn't intentional when we sat down and wrote it, but as soon as it was finished we thought 'THIN LIZZY!'" bassist Steve Harris told Kerrang! magazine. "It's a tribute to them, in a way. Obviously it sounds like MAIDEN, but it just conjured up that THIN LIZZY vibe."

As previously reported, MAIDEN has contributed "Different World", to the Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam video game. The title is the first downhill skateboard racing game based on the wildly popular Tony Hawk franchise and will be released by Activision in the fall for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance.

North American residents can pre-order the new IRON MAIDEN CD, "A Matter of Life and Death", as a CD or iPod-friendly digital download for only $9.99 — or $14.99 with a limited-edition t-shirt. Fans purchasing the release will also be able to buy tickets to the band's upcoming October U.S. tour run in advance of the general public on-sale date of August 12.

The band's recently announced North American arena tour will be the only U.S. dates in support of "A Matter of Life and Death".

"A Matter of Life and Death" was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two MAIDEN albums, 2000's "Brave New World" and 2003's "Dance of Death".

"A Matter of Life And Death" is scheduled for release on September 5 via Sanctuary Records.

...it's good, but not great. Worrys me a little because it really sounds like it could be off Dance of Death. The main riff, and the lead guitar work is excellent. But it's Maiden so that doesn't suprise me. It's the shortest song off the album and obviously more of a radio song so I still have high hopes for the album. And I'm nitpicking a little because it's Maiden and I know how great they can be.

kamelotica, I agree. Not very impressed with this song. Personally, I've resigned myself that the Maiden "spark" just won't be there anymore like it was back in the day, up until Seventh Son. It happens...but it's just not as consistent for my taste. I'll reserve total judgement until I hear all the songs on the new one though. Breeg is pretty good...but Different World is rather blah.

Can't wait for the live show in Irvine in October!!!!!

Didn't mean to give the wrong impression. I'm a huge Maiden fan. And am so sick of people saying they're always sounded the same. Any Maiden fan can tell you that each album has it's many nuances that make it stand apart. I mean to say that Killers sounds like Powerslave, or Piece of Mind sounds like Seventh Son is just ridiculous. I mean they aren't constatnly trying to redefine themselves, but who gives a shit. Look what it did to Metallica, Death Angel, Helloween, Emperor(the last two were good but didn't match up to their earlier stuff) Shadows Fall(they used to be really good when they were just blatantly ripping off Gothenberg) Slayer(ok, I mainly mean going from Reign in Blood straight into South of Heaven) and many others. There is nothing wrong with being able to listen to two different albums from a band and having a familar feel. For one thing it helps you identify with the writter. And look at AC/DC(not my favorite, but I respect them) they didn't change to much and they continue to write music that people get excited about. Oh, and one more of these. Someone try to explain to me how Number of the Beast and Somewhere in Time sound the same.

You can always count on Up the Shizer to go to every Maiden post and try to start shit. Just because they don't sing about drugs, and how bad everything sucks doesn't make them cheesy. It's all based on your own opinions. I'm sorry if you're not familar with the word opinion. If you have a dictionary at your house maybe you should look it up quick. And while you're at it you should look up the word poser. Because even if I don't like the bands who made metal what it is, I don't rip on them. All because of another word you should look up. If you take the song like a nice lovely melodic song then its good. If you are looking for Metal then its gay!. Bruce sounds like hes straining plus I heard this shit wasn't mastered so he'll sound even worse and he does. Ok my view its a nice song if you are not looking for aggression in Maiden again its very melodic but not mean classic Iron Maiden ah the good life how it removes the balls from us all. and...Elvis done left the building..in search of just the right amount of melodicism and aggression not too gay and not too brutal. They've got three bleedin' guitarists! You could do that with one... What a shame. They seem to have lost the will to play like demons. As for Shirley's production - he was a one hit wonder. Brave New World sounded incendiary - thick like a nuclear bomb, but since the opening notes of Dance of Death, Maiden have sounded thick like gravy.

Really like this song - just think the production isn't really helping things at all, it does them no favours. It does have a Thin Lizzy flavour like they said though - will sound ace live I reckon.

I like the song. It's experimental for Maiden, which gives me even more hope that this new album can end up being one of its better ones. For those not happy with the rhthym section, I've read a ton of reviews from various countries that say most of the songs have very complex arrangements. From what I hear, there are four songs in particular that really have complex rhthym sections: Brighter Than A Thousand Suns, The Longest Day, Lord Of Light and The Legacy. I can't wait!!!
