IRON MAIDEN: Another New Song Posted Online

Another new IRON MAIDEN song, entitled "Brighter than a Thousand Suns", has been posted online at IronMaiden.com. According to Kerrang! magazine, "Brighter than a Thousand Suns" is arguably the heaviest track on MAIDEN's new album, "A Matter of Life and Death", and one with heavy subject matter to match. "It's about the atomic bomb," says singer Bruce Dickinson. "The scientist that saw the first bomb go off said it was brighter than a thousand suns. The idea that human beings could bring about their own total destruction totally changed the way people thought." As previously reported, the new IRON MAIDEN song "Different World" has been made available for streaming at this location. The opening track on "A Matter of Life and Death", "Different World" is the shortest song on the CD at a mere four minutes. "It wasn't intentional when we sat down and wrote it, but as soon as it was finished we thought ' THIN LIZZY!'" bassist Steve Harris told Kerrang! magazine. "It's a tribute to them, in a way. Obviously it sounds like MAIDEN, but it just conjured up that THIN LIZZY vibe." As previously reported, MAIDEN has contributed "Different World", to the Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam video game. The title is the first downhill skateboard racing game based on the wildly popular Tony Hawk franchise and will be released by Activision in the fall for the Wii, Nintendo DS, and Game Boy Advance. North American residents can pre-order the new IRON MAIDEN CD, "A Matter of Life and Death", as a CD or iPod-friendly digital download for only $9.99 — or $14.99 with a limited-edition t-shirt. Fans purchasing the release will also be able to buy tickets to the band's upcoming October U.S. tour run in advance of the general public on-sale date of August 12. The band's recently announced North American arena tour will be the only U.S. dates in support of "A Matter of Life and Death". "A Matter of Life and Death" was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two MAIDEN albums, 2000's "Brave New World" and 2003's "Dance of Death". "A Matter of Life And Death" is scheduled for release on September 5 via Sanctuary Records.

Dark,heavy and complicated,Oh and Bruce sounds amasing.
I didn't like "different world" that much but "the reincarnation of BB" is great and this is even better.
Generally speaking this the best Maiden have sounded since SSOASS.

Ben Breeg rocked, and after a few listens I like Different World too, and Brighter...woah...AMAZING!
BRILLIANT CHORUS!

bruce is a bit older, but i wouldnt say he sounds uninspired. he rips on ROBB, and man this new song is just too good. this is a heavy sound track for maiden. not 'a heavy song'.

As of lately, it seems that bruce has put more into his solo albums, vocally, than the Maiden stuff. If these guys plan on bowing out soon, I wish they'd make it worth it. I love Maiden, but they need to try something different. Wouldn't it be cool if bands threw in some covers of some stuff that you'd never guess they'd do, like say, Maiden doing Slayer's "Seasons in the Abyss". I know, you say why would maiden do covers, why not, it might be fun for them. Bands don't do enough off the wall stuff anymore, it's all too serious.

This song is awesome. "Sounds like Tool" fucking hell, where do you people come from?? Sounds more like something from Bruces` classic solo years to me. Very heavy for a Maiden song, great track, sounds like it`s going to be a brilliant album.

one thing about the last two albums,was that it had some top notch songs, but alot of the riffs kinda sounded samey.. nothing really distinctive.
this seems to change that.

I favor this one a lot more than Benny B.
I will still purchase the album though.
Cannot wait to see them in early October in Hartford.
Perhaps this time in concert they will play "The Duellists" from Powerslave. I doubt it though.
Overall, Brighten Than..... is still a great composition.
Too bad they took the title from Killing Joke though.

This song does not sound like normal Maiden, and that is a good thing. It is heavy FOR MAIDEN. Maybe not "heavy" for some people's definition, but heavy for Maiden. That solo in the middle is very unique for them.
They are not breaking new amazing ground, but what do you expect? Solid song and this album looks to be better than DOD by a long shot.

i have listened to these songs and thought they were pretty good. then the other day i was driving in my car and popped in powerslave and realized vocally, guitar-wise, ect this stuff sucks. go throw in your number of the beast cd and then listen to these 3 songs...................................they suck...maiden....rip....

"Brighter than a Thousand Suns" sounds awesome. It's the best song out of this album so far, and one of the best they've written in quite some time. Great song!
"Different World" is a mediocre and easily forgetable song.
"...Benjamin Breeg" has it's moments, but is little more than above average.

Obviously, I'm a Maiden Fan....and we all know the days of albumbs like # of teh Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave are gone. But damn, this songs is pretty fucking great!!!!!
Call me a sheep, and as long as Maiden makes albums...I'll keep buying them. Bregg Song was killer...Destiny was filler...this one just kills!!!!
I do have to say I'm amazed at the idiots that get on here just to say "Maiden Sucks". If you hate the band, why even bother to read the article....why waste time to post??? I liked the Benjamen whatever his name is track well enough, better than good and almost great. The one they posted yesterday was good but not great. This one -- is a killer song and the guitars and riffs are freaking amazing. I am not going to bash Bruce at all, but he sounds as if he is forcing more than usual and I'll let that slide. Age changes ones voice and he still kicks ass over 99% of the young vocalists in metal. Killer song, me likey.

i really really like this song. benjamin breeg is awesome too but different world seems a lot like wildest dreams and that is the only song i skip on dance of death. i dont think this is going to be the best maiden album in the last 10 years because i think that brave new world may very well be their best cd ever. this sounds like it is going to be damn good though

I thought it sounded too happy and simple at first, but after 10 listenings I LOVE IT!
The chorus just takes your breath away if you really get into the song.
GIMME THE FUCKIN' ALBUM NOW!!!!!!
And a giant FU to those of you who think Iron Maiden should retire, Benjamin Breeg and Brighter than a thousand suns sound pure Maiden, but extremely fresh too!

I like this one best of the three posted so far. This reminds me of the vocals on Ayreon's Universal Mitigator album (for anyone who has not heard this song or album I definetly recommend you check it out along with all of the other Ayreon discs) which I thought were quite godly. I disagree with those who say the voice sounds overly strained, though a bit of that may be expected due to age. I am very pleased by this track, and it has definetly piqued my interest in the new disc more than the other two

....... isn't sounding too impressive after hearing 3 songs.
I hate Metallica but I have to agree them (the Napster thing). Maiden's album isn't due till September 5th and I have about half of the album burnt already. I had Slayer's new album downloaded 2 weeks before it came out and I didn't have to pay a dime. This is all bad news for the music industry, but it's great for me. I would have been pretty disappointed had I paid $16 for that Slayer album, or more than $10 for Maiden's.

this song is badass, finally some of the passion and newness of Bruce's solo albums are making it to Maiden. If the rest is anything like this it will be one of Maidens best albums ever. Old school Maiden is classic of course and takes us all back and is great but if they released the same albums today i guarantee all the haters would still be hating. Personally I'd rather here this than alot of the older stuff and chemical wedding trumps it all

This song Rocked! Heavier in parts then a lot of other stuff but had ALL the sonic expressions that Maiden is known for while keeping it fresh! I liked Reincarnation of BB and listened to Brighter Than a Thousand Suns for the first time this morning while preparing breakfast. After a few riffs it got my attention. So I recorded it and put it on my MP3 player at work today. I work in an office as a financial auditor and i just couldn't stop replaying Brighter Than a Thousand Suns over and over again. It totally grew on me. Must have listened to it a two dozen times today. Hell I'm listening to it right now! This song fucking kicks ass!! Highly addicitve!!! Up the fucking Irons! See you on tour in Quebec city MAIDEN!!!!
