VINNIE PAUL Joins Forces With MUDVAYNE, NOTHINGFACE Members In New Project

Former PANTERA/DAMAGEPLAN drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott has teamed up with members of MUDVAYNE and NOTHINGFACE in a brand new project, informed sources have told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. The group has been writing and recording material in Dallas, Texas for what will eventually become its debut album, tentatively due in early 2007. A name has already been selected for the band, but has not yet been revealed, the sources said. The group's lineup is as follows:
Chad Gray (MUDVAYNE) - Vocals
Greg Tribbett (MUDVAYNE) - Guitar
Tom Maxwell (NOTHINGFACE) - Guitar
Jerry Montano (DANZIG, NOTHINGFACE) - Bass
Vinnie Paul Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) - Drums
A headlining tour is tentatively expected to take place before the end of the year, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.
In a June 2006 interview with the Fort Worth Weekly, Vinnie Paul spoke briefly about the new group, stating, "I have been working with different people, and I really can't tell you who they are right now because we're in the middle of everything. . . The more and more I go along, the more I miss playing, but it's all been part of the healing process, and time is truth. And if [the playing] I am [doing] right now becomes the real deal, then I will get back to it very soon."
It should be noted that the new project's existence will not affect the status of MUDVAYNE, who are expected to begin writing material for their fourth album later in the month.

I remember jamming out to Mudvayne's "LD 50" album a few times.Then after that I forgot about them...I have not listened to Nothingface's material yet but after looking at the lineup...its basically a nu-metal lineup + vinne paul....
I think this players are interesting..but it when it comes down to it...all that matters is the songwriting...to me personally nu-metal = holding back good music...meaning:zero guitar solo...lame kindergarten lyrics...and guitar work with zero talent.
hopefully the nu-metal musicians will really realize that its not the year 1997-2002 and create a good music that worthy of a listen...

Honestly this project seems cool and on but maybe the nothingface guys should be focusing on putting their own new record instead of this. They better not of just gotten all their fans hopes up buy doing a reunion tour and then bailing.

I really do not like Mudvayne, especially the singer and guitar player. I agree with whoever brought it up first, the bass player was the best thing about the band. I will give it a listen but I doubt that I will spend money on it. I wish Vin would have found a bunch of unknowns as opposed to this.

I don't know whether I should be happy that Vinnie is behind the kit again..or if I should go on a fucking shooting rampage. Think about this...Chad Gray is replacing Phil Anselmo on vocals...Jerry Montano is replacing Rex on bass...and they need 2 guitarists to fill in the shoes of Dime, and they still won't cut it...now let that soak in for a while. And I'm not comparing this project to Pantera...but you know everyone is expecting Pantera.
Just like when everyone expected Pantera when Damageplan came out...and fuckin Dime was in Damageplan. So go put 2 and 2 together...
This is project is going to be horrid, yet I know I'll find myself supporting this shit in 2007 because I think Vinnie is one of the most badass drummers of all time, and I don't want to hear any back-talk.

That may be true to some extent, but that doesn't take any talent away from the Abbott brothers you ignorant fucks. Phil Anselmo was/is great at what he does...Vocals. He doesn't write the guitar or drum parts. He never did. As a matter of fact, if I remember correctly, it was Vinnie and Rex that started Pantera...not Phil Anselmo. He was 5th in line as a singer. Damageplan didn't WANT to sound like Pantera because they were done with it. It was in the past. Phil was in the past for them. He and Pantera were memories...and nothing more. Damageplan was its own entity.

I was hoping to see Vinnie Paul and Rex Brown put something together but I know Rex has been involved with some projects, such as Down, that Phil has been apart of. Not sure what Vinnie and Rex's status is and I'm not a fan of nu-metal at all and having guys from Mudvayne in your band doesn't sound promising...

PANTERA went from GLAMTERA to NU-TERA. They never were a very good band. Respect to Dime because he knew how to solo, but their music sucks and always has.

Can't wait to hear this.
Good to see vinnie getting out and kicking ass like he always has. Chad can sound fucking brutal when he wants to, and greg has some pretty cool riffs.
Everyone has to stop comparing everything vinnie does to pantera. Be a REAL music lover. Listen to the music and decide if you like it based on that. Go into it with an open mind, don't condemn it before you actually hear it. THAT is retarded. Your just stopping yourself from potentially enjoying some great tunes.

Everyone needs to shut the hell up!! All i am reading is ppl talkin about how bad this will suck, when a name hasn't even been released yet! I have to agree with (icankickyourass), Vinnie is the shit behind a kit, Mudvayne has rocked since LD 50, and i'm not a fan of Nothingface but they are a talented bunch! And none of these bands sound anything alike...
This lineup sounds awesome, Chad has awesome vocals, Greg is quite talented on the 6 string and i'm sure we have yet to see what all he has to offer, we know what Vinnie is bringin...add the members of Nothingface and this should be different....but it'll still kick ass!! This should be something even our fallen brother Dime(R.I.P.) would look foward to hearing!!
