KORN, DEFTONES Members Speak About Atlanta Concert Death

At the July 30 Family Values tour stop in Atlanta, a fan suffered a fatal brain injury after being sucker-punched during an argument. Andy Richardson, 30, died two days later. Police have since made an arrest. Singer Chino Moreno of co-headlining band the DEFTONES expressed real regret to the Los Angeles Times over Richardson's death. "I always make a point, when we're playing, if I see someone fighting we'll stop the song and tell them to chill out," he said. "Then we'll continue with the music. The music is secondary to people's safety." "We were real sad," KORN guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer told the Los Angeles Times. "It's not the safest place to go, no matter who you are. Last night onstage I got hit in the back with a quarter, also with a cellphone. I get [stuff] thrown at me all night long." KORN meets with fans at every tour stop. "I've been fortunate enough to learn a lot from different people, being around the world," Shaffer said. "Everybody has the same problems, the same four or five things that they all struggle with: relationships, finance, personal issues. It keeps me grounded, you know?"

This guy didn't die in the pit. Some guys sucker punched him outside I heard and he hit the concrete pavement. IF it was in the pit, these guys would have not escaped.

but I happened to see them on a festival and CHINO did exactly what he said there. He stopped the music and told some people to mellow down and help some kid up. He even got a bit angry there... Like I said, not a fan, but the guy acted very smart.

That was in '96, before Korn got big. Fear Factory opened the show, Flotsam and Jetsam were next, then Korn, and finally Megadeth. Prior to that day, I had never even heard of Korn. When all was said and done though, they had the best set out of the bunch. Fear Factory always suck live, Flotsam were always dispensable, and at that time (Youthanasia) Megadeth were just goddamn boring. Korn saved the show and made it something to remember. Of course, a year later they released that shitty fucking Life is Peachy album, and it's all been downhill since.

No Korn album would ever touch the self-titled debut. I won't listen to any Korn but that album.
I must say that Korn album introduced me to some good and heavier music after I listened to it. Before I heard the Korn album I was listening to Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney. I was only in grade 7.
So Thank you Korn for a good fuckin' album. Innovators of nu-metal (even though most of it is garbage now of days)

Deftones is fuckin' awesome. I seen them live more than any other band but I have to say, they are getting reelly really really bad live. I mean brutally bad. They need to get their shit together and stop touring with those emo bands too.

I fucking hate people who go to shows and pick fights. I also hate people who try and get their "free shots" on people in the pit. A pit is not a place to beat the fuck out of people. Yeah its rough, your going to get a elbow in the face, your going to get kicked around, but i hate people who go in looking to kick the shit out of someone, who go in there throwing punches and trample people. If someone falls in a pit, help them up, don't walk over them.
I know this wasn't about pits, but i just got back from a show with a bunch of douchebags in the pit.

it drives me NUTS when ppl open up storys about bands they dont even like just to talk shit and make it a point to say they dont like these certain bands! But its ashame what happened to that guy. I'm goin to F.V sept. 10 in Indy and shit like that just makes me not to excited to go like i used to. But U korn and deftones haters need to go somewhere else!!! And leave the commented up to the ppl who appreciate thier music!!

I fucking love korn !!! I th ink theyre pretty bold they take over the line but not too far...now that is bloody fucking talent. Deftones have my respect too, they come out with some great stuff.
