LED ZEPPELIN Tunes To Fill Ontario's Grand Theatre - Aug. 24, 2006
Herman Goodden of The London Free Press reports that the sounds of the first LED ZEPPELIN album will close out London, Ontario's Hot August Nights concerts series at the Grand Theatre tonight.

It would be interesting to see what resident ghost Ambrose Small makes of all the racket. "So, are you playing a record or giving a live performance?" he might wonder. Well, both actually.

"This is a rock and roll recital," said some wag at Q107 Radio in Toronto, discussing one of the more than two dozen presentations put on by the Toronto-based music collective known as CLASSIC ALBUMS LIVE. Instead of sitting behind a loaded music stand and faithfully playing each note and bar rendered there, the pool of musicians who make up CLASSIC ALBUMS LIVE set out to create note-and-nuance-perfect live presentations — or representations — of classic rock albums from the 1960s and '70s.

Craig Martin is the figure behind the concept. "I have 34 different shows that I produce," he says. "And we have about 150 musicians across North America."

Roger Daltrey > Robert Plant
Jimi Page > Pete Townsend
John Entwistle > John Paul Jones
Keith Moon = John Bonham (too tough to call, maybe Moon because theatrics)

The Who>Led Zeppelin.

Both great bands though.
I just enjoy to stir the pot...

Classic Album live is fuckin awesome. I know the guitarist in the Zep tribute band and have see Zep 3 and Physical Graffiti albums.

Check out any of the Classic Albums Live, they are worth the price. Performed almost to a tee.

'Keith Moon = John Bonham (too tough to call, maybe Moon because theatrics)'

Your comment on the two drummers is hard to argue with; well thought out by the way.

However, in my humble opinion:

Robert Plant > Roger Daltrey
Jimi Page > Pete Townsend
John Paul Jones > John Entwistle

Led Zeppelin > The Who

For some reason I've always hated the Who, not sure why exactly.

Ive said it before, and ill say it again. go liten to Quadrophenia the whole way through. (or "Who's Next")

Oh, and: "John Paul Jones > John Entwistle"
As far as Bass playing ability goes, there is NO comaprison.
"The Ox" was Hands down the better Bass player.
though you could however make the argument that JPJ was more versitile.

Is all time classic album. Everyone should own this album in their collection. And this event sounds pretty cool.

Yes, I was wrong: John Entwistle the better bass player. I should have been more clearer in what I was trying to say, which is: John Paul Jones is by far the better musician/ songwriter.

I respect you opinion, but I believe Zep have, by far, the better catalogue; their fourth album far exceeds anything by the Who.

I still disagree.

Songwriting?

The only song John Paul Jones wrote with Led Zeppelin was "All Of My Love", (which yes, was a well written tune) and his Solo albums are pretty brutal.

John Entwistle's song writing contributions to the Who were far more involved. Not to mention the songs that were all his own, such as:"Heaven and Hell". "My Wife","Boris The Spider", "Cousin Kevin" etc... All Very Solid Songs. And I think he had 8 or 9 solo albums, which were not great, but still quite creative.

one question: "resident ghost ambrose small"? who is this.

this is all orchestrations of a led zeppelin album though? that is what this is about.

i have a cool one of a string quartet preforming marilyn manson songs. i saw two tool discs like this as well. hit up amazon, its something in the way.

First of all, I meant: your opinion; not, you opinion. (Just in case it gets pointed out)

Secondly, JPJ contributed to a lot of Zep material: No Quarter stand out in my mind in terms of contribution. I think he played a vital role in Led Zeppelin. As you said 'versatile' was he, and this versatility was very evident in the vast scope of the band. He was one of the four reason for the bands great depth...in a way Entwistle would not have been capable of.

This is just what I tend to believe. Perhaps my musical intellect is being hindered due to my liking of Led Zeppelin and my dislike of the Who.

But, you are right: those solo albums produced nothing of exception.

Regardless of our differences of views on this topic: it is refreshing to actually have a good debate--so to speak--on Blabbermouth that doesn't result in actuations of jerking-off and name calling (though that is fun too hahaha).

It has been fun mate.

Yup, we seem to be a dying breed here on Blabbermouth.
There are only a hand full of people on here that I value the opinion of and can have a real conversation/debate about music with. (not just metal)

Oh, and one more thing...

THE WHO > LED ZEPPELIN

hahaha....sorry, I had to...

hahaha, I was waiting for that.

I will say this: John Entwistle was the more exciting bass player to watch, in terms of his technique. I could watch him for hours, and he didn't have to resort to antics such as puking up blood like some idiot had to.

It is a shame he died of coke/heart attack.

Once again, I can't argue with the good o'l DSM line of thinking.
