IRON MAIDEN: New Album Almost Gold In Finland On First Day Of Release - Aug. 26, 2006
According to a posting on the IRON MAIDEN fan site MaidenFans.com, EMI Finland has announced that the new IRON MAIDEN album, "A Matter of Life and Death", has sold more than 13,000 copies within just a few hours of its release on Friday (August 25) — just shy of that country's official gold certification sales plateau (15,000).

MTV2 will air "Iron Maiden Makes An Album" — a half-hour program where MTV goes behind the scenes of IRON MAIDEN's new collection, "A Matter of Life and Death" — on Saturday, August 26 at 11:30 p.m. EST. more information is available at www.vh1.com.

30-second audio samples of all 10 tracks that are set to appear on "A Matter of Life and Death" have been posted online at this location. (Please note that the samples of "Different World" and "The Reincarnation of Benjamin Breeg" are the same [possibly due to a web site glitch]).

"A Matter of Life and Death" was recorded at Sarm West Studios in London with producer Kevin Shirley, who also worked on the last two MAIDEN albums, 2000's "Brave New World and 2003's "Dance of Death".

Such a grand accomplishment for Maiden. If 15000 is gold in Finland, then clearly they don't have a thriving music industry.

So selling 13,000 albums is pretty impressive.

Correct my math if I'm wrong, but that would be like saying Iron Maiden sold around 688,000 copies of the album in America.

I think that's right.... 13K / 5223K = 0.002488

so.....

0.002488 * 275,000,000 (approximate population of US) = 684,414.

Not that I expect any of you geniuses to correct me if I'm wrong. JUST KIDDING!!!!!!!!

The most recent population number for the U.S. is 295,734,134, so if you applied the same ratio of albums sold/total population to America, Iron Maiden would have to sell 736,017 copies during the first week of release, which would make it almost 3/4 of the way to platinum certification in just one week, which, let's face it, ain't going to happen. So....hooray for Finland.

OK, let me just say, that DoD took me a few listens to get into. I think it's a great album. I'm on track 7 of the new one and can honestly say that this is their strongest album since SSoaSS. It's also pretty damn heavy and has a lot of 'darkness' to it. The songs are long, progressive, and well arranged. This truly is a Maiden classic.

from the thread yesterday who were pissed because Maiden is only doing like 15 shows in the U.S.

Luckily, I live very near Detroit and Chicago is only a 3 1/2 or 4 hour drive if need be. Fuck, I might even go see them TWICE just on principle!

You guys just gotta understand that they're not in their prime anymore. Dickinson fucked everything up when he left, but after $haronfe$t last year, I support this band whole-heartedly.

BUY THEIR ALBUM. If you want them to do a huge tour of the States, you've got to show them that the support is there for it!

Congrats to the guys for their strong chart positions and strong album sales. I can't wait to check it out!

Respect!

This wasn't in it's first week. This was in it's first DAY. Within a FEW HOURS.

Maiden would have to sell 750,000 copies in the U.S. in a single day to compete with that ratio.

Not even Britney Spears or Justin Timberlake can compete with that. In fact, I'm not sure any U.S. band has been certified platinum in under a few weeks...? I'll have to look that up.

This ties in with my earlier post... everyone bitches because Maiden isn't doing a huge tour of the U.S, but that's why. They are seriously under-appreciated here as opposed to other countries.

They can play to 20,000 people on a BAD night in Europe.

They might play to 15,000 on a GREAT night here. So why bother?

Instead of bitching and whining, people need to buy their CDs and email their label! Tell them you want to see Maiden on an extended tour of the States!

It works and they listen. Trust me. You just need a lot of people to do it!

I have all their CDs. I travle to go see them (withe reason). I am a loyal die-hard Maiden fan. I hope they realize that a lot of people in the US love and appreciate them. Please play down south! Finland 5000000. US 295000000.
295000000 / 5000000 = 59.
13000 x 59 = 767000.

767000 copies in the States in one week would be awesome.

Good job, Maiden!
