No.
Any list of guitar solos that has a Zakk-era Ozzy song, but not a Randy-era Ozzy song on it has no credibility in my book. Yes, No More Tears had a good solo, but you know what else did? Every single song Randy played guitar on. That's what.
Again, No.

distinctive tones, it started on his first solo album in the 70's and still carries through. Its kind of shimmering like the track run like hell off of the wall. Excellent choice for #1

Definitely over.I'd set the over and under at about 100.Morons will come out of the woodwork to argue this one.Especially since most of the songs are classic rock and not metal.Plus Slash appearing on the list 3 times will be an easy target.EVH with 1 song seems absurd.Half of these songs probably have never been heard by dorks on this site but they are about to be ripped.Which is partly wrong because solos like the one on "Sultans..." totally deserve to be on this list.My only question is who in the hell is Wishbone Ash and no matter how good the solo is how does it make this list?

This list is the usual predictable crap. About as boring and mainstream as you could get. Planet Rock must cater to the over 40s market, people stuck in a time warp whose brains have been cryogenically frozen since 1988.

The persons who choose these solos should realize that there is what we call the virtuoso thing like Paganini was in his time. And i can assure you, there is a lot of giant talented "guitarheroes" out there that should win this title. Is this ignorance? Or only the names you were in the top at certain point in time?
Have you ever heard names like Yngwie Malmsteen (80's and 90's success...), bands like winger, journey, nagra, etc, etc, etc...even whitesnake, that was a band with success is not there...come on!!!and if you're looking for best solo, you should look for instrumental musical stuff, like Jason Becker, Tony Macalpine, Paul Gilbert, Greg Howe, Joey Taffolla, George Bellas, Paco de Lucia, Steve Vai, Kiko Loureiro..........................Those are a few guys you might deserve that title. Those are some of the great and freaky players of all time! Regards

Guitar solos never went anywhere. They're always going to be around at a certain level, but they're never going to be dead. When guitar solos were cool, guitarists did them. When guitar solos weren't cool, guitarists still did them.

There are still plenty of great songs that have great solos.

Is up there, awesome to see them get some recognition!

Iron Maiden were hugely influenced by Wishbone Ash (just check Harris' comments in the "The Early Days" documentary).

Wishbone Ash are a classic / prog rock band from the UK formed in 1969. Their album "Argus" from 1972 is an alltime classic and influenced many mainly because of the great and pioneering use of twin guitars and an independent bass. Other great songs are the epic 'Phoenix' the innovative 'Vas Dis' or the instrumental 'Outward Bound'.

Throw down the sword is from Argus and features two guitars soloing at the same time in the same scale, yet playing different lines and blending none the less.

Wishbone Ash still exists today (wishoneash.com)

There are too many great guitarists out there for any one collection to contain. AS a guitarist myself, I think this collection should have had, at least, three volumes to it...this being the more classic guitar voilume. Too many more modern guys are left off.

I'm tired of the half-fast/ 3rd-rate collections. Let's have one huge set that includes a broader scope.

fair enough. i'll amend my statement. solos are a lost art that most newer bands have left behind. older bands, and guitarists from the 60's, 70's and 80's still play their solos. some newer bands play in the classic style- Collective Soul, for example.i'll take the old stuff anyday.

I find this list insulting. Guns and Roses twice in the top 5 ... come on. I am sure Slash is a competent guitarist but this is ridiculous. This list is probably been rigged by Gunners fans. Hendrix in 12th and 20th - should have been higher. Jimi Page should have been higher as well. There probably should have been more Clapton. Proof that popularity contest mean nothing. As for Van Halen - Eruption should have been number 1 (Eddie did it at the age of 22 years) and there should have been a number of others from Eddie as well. For those teenie boopers you could even select the guitar solo from Beat It - Michael Jackson - which Eddie did. What about Yngwie and Steve Vai. At least I see some sense prevailed with Richie Blackmore selections. Not endorsing him ... but I see no Carlos Santana either. I am sure Richie Sambora possibly could have made it as well. Other insulting selections - The Eagles.
