ANTHRAX Guitarist: New STONE SOUR Album Is 'Incredible'

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has issued the following update:
"My humble opinion: The new [STONE SOUR] album 'Come What(ever) May' is incredible. I listen to it every day from start to finish at least twice. I think it's the best record I have heard since REFUSED's 'Shape of Punk to Come' or FAITH NO MORE's 'Album of the Year' or SYSTEM OF A DOWN's 'Mezmerize'. It's a perfect combination of metal riffs, rock grooves, and pop melodies, creating a tight, concise sound that is wholly original. I will still be listening to this record in 10, 20, 30 years, that's how good I think the writing is. The hooks are as infectious as airborne Ebola and there is this sense of urgency throughout, like theyre going to jail the next day. You can feel the energy in the tracks. I love the album from top to bottom, a rare thing these days. My current favorites are '30/30 150', 'Come What(ever) May', 'Silly World', 'Through Glass', 'Socio', and 'Your God'. Get this record."

May have had more validity is I didn't see Scott Ian all over VH1 everytime I flipped past the station. Stone Sour sucks ass and I'm sure the album does too. The two singles suck. Anthrax may have invented the worst shit in the world, rap metal, but they didn't create or even help create metal. Scott Ian right now is a cancer to what metal is all about. I wonder why people consider Stone Sour nu-metal.. could it be that all these narrow minded people on here consider anything that isn't death to be nu-metal?
I listen to the new stone sour CD and I think it is the best metal album to come out this year. There are some serious headbanging moments in this record...
But seriously I don't get what this obscene need to lump everything post 1990, and everything that isnt death metal to labled nu-metal crap... I think people need to open their minds and ears... The narrow minded ones are killing the scene...

With all of the genres of in metal today, people are starting to lose sight if what REAL metal is. The state of metal right now is shitty in my opinion. People think it's cool to look like a badass, but not back it up with their music (metalcore shit, etc.). Lets have two different groupings of the genre....metal and pop metal.

since when does a metal CD have to be non stop 60+ mins of head banging... hell the a toute le monde by megadeth wasnt a total headbanging song, the beginning to sanitarium, home sweet home from motley crue, every rose has its thorn by poison... and so on...
Just because an album has a ballad doesnt make it less metal. And those bands all of them are metal, dont say other wise because if you do you will just look stupid... poison was hair metal, motley crue was everything about the LA Metal Scene, and the list goes on...

I'm not saying it has to be non-stop headbanging...but it needs to be the core of the music. Metal is derived from "heavy metal". Think Slayer, think Pantera, think Exodus, think Sepultura....these bands were heavy at the core. Stone Sour?????????????????? No way that is metal. Corey Taylor is a sell out. He portrayed himself as a sick guy. He sang about some weird and nasty shit with Slipknot. But he comes out with trendy shit like Stone Sour?? Tell me how many songs on Master of Puppets sounded like the beginning of Sanitarium? None! Poison and Motley Crue were all about image and you can't dispute that. The LA metal Scene (Ratt, Crue, etc.) were all about image and trend. Nothing HEAVY about that metal. Stone Sour is rock music, I guess that is my point.

One more thing...I'd rather look stupid to you than think a ballad about my girlfriend and I having problems is metal. It is completely anti-metal. MTV and VH1 have you and so many other people hypnotized. The only reason you think bands like Poison are in any way metal is because those stations say so. That's why metal sucks right now for the most part. Cuz VH1 and MTV tell you what metal is.

No, the new Stone Sour is not metal. Metal is heavy. Stone Sour isn't heavy. That said, I don't give a fuck if it's metal or not, this album sounds like a slightly heavier Nickelback record to me.
I don't like it, not because it's not metal, just because it doesn't sound good.
