ALICE IN CHAINS: 'Layne Staley' Biography Used By Social Workers And Drug Counselors - Sep. 3, 2006
ARTS Publications has announced that the previously published biography of late ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley, "Layne Staley: Angry Chair" — now retitled "Layne Staley: Get Born Again" — was recently ordered by a big number of social workers and drug counselors from different group therapy programs in the United States. Many of these specialists have been extremely touched by Layne's story and message. Argentinean journalist-author Adriana Rubio "feels grateful and fully expects to get them working on new programs for heroin users soon," according to a press release.

According to the publisher, "Layne Staley: Get Born Again" is a "brand new book" that has been revised and updated with the inclusion of two new chapters: "Hate To Feel" and "Get Born Again" as a revival of the acclaimed "Angry Chair" book. The covers — front and back — are new. More pictures and artwork have been added to this title in which the author transcribed, in full, Layne Staley's last interview, revealing the harsh truth behind heroin addiction and the reality of his family life.

Layne Staley died in April 2002. He was once on top of the music world as the lead singer for ALICE IN CHAINS and MAD SEASON. "Layne Staley: Get Born Again" is filled with exclusive interviews with his mother, Nancy, his sister, Liz, and Layne himself, as he broke his five-year public silence just months before his death. The book also includes pictures from Layne's childhood, drawings, poetry and a lot more.

According to Rolling Stone magazine, Rubio began the book with the Staley family's blessings, but the singer's mom later said it "lacked concern for basic human dignity" and withdrew support.

Rubio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a member of "The Latin American Journalists Federation" (FELAP) and also of "The Union Press Workers of Buenos Aires" (UTPBA). She is an investigative journalist who has published three books in the United States: "Dave Mustaine: Are you Ready to Take the Risk?" (Vantage Press), "Layne Staley: Angry Chair" (Xanadu Enterprises) and "Jim Morrison Ceremony" (ARTS Publications).

Could crawl out of his grave and slap this bitch!! The author has madfe a career of crypt hunting and salacious writing. Not that the story itself is untrue, but the bitch knows she's wrong for portraying him this way. A tragedy? Surely. A textbook for socialworkers? Certainly not. Let's honor him by letting him rest in peace!!!

Being a huge fan of Alice in Chains, I purchased this book when it was first released several years ago. I couldn't believe how poorly written this book was. Not only because of the spelling and grammar mistakes that could be find throughout, but because much of the book was focused on the author herself, rather than Layne. And considering Layne's mom withdrew her support after having read the book, you know this book wasn't written with the best intentions.

And it's been so long since I read it, but I believe this is the book where Layne's supposed last interview took place. He talks about how he is shitting his pants because at that point, he had basically lost all control of his body. And he talked about how nobody in Alice in Chains were his friends and how he knew that death was soon.

I would think that a story like Layne's wouldn't help people who are addicted to drugs. That would just depress them further knowing a guy with millions of dollars and millions of fans around the world couldn't pull himself out of this hole. A story about a former drug user who has successfully turned his life around might be more uplifting and give these people some hope, rather than just scare them with the horror stories of what drugs can do to you. But that's just me.

They're using it for a good cause. Hard drugs suck, and they ruined many a great musicians. Stay away from them.

yeah right. more like "we sent free copies in a desperate attempt at publicity". Agree with no generation, stay away from drugs, but also: this book -- utter shit.

Junkfuck is one of my favourite songs; ironically Staley's Bio is now being used by drug counselors...I think he'd find that funny.

Why do people think its cool to name biographies of musicians after one of the musician's songs?

Seriously, "Angry Chair"? What the fuck does that tell you about Layne Staley? That he was a disgruntled piece of furniture?

Excuse me while I write my biography on Tony Iommi, entitled "Dirty Women"
