IRON MAIDEN, BLIND GUARDIAN, GOATWHORE: Entire New Albums Available For Streaming

AOL Music is currently holding full CD listening parties for the following albums: IRON MAIDEN – "A Matter of Life and Death" ( Listen) BLIND GUARDIAN - "A Twist in the Myth" ( Listen) GOATWHORE - "A Haunting Curse" ( Listen) All three albums are being released in the U.S. today (Tuesday, September 5).

I hit Best Buy this morning, and they had 40 CD's which was great, but they laugh is that they advertise a "Tour Patch" with each purchase. Talk about a piece of crap!!!!! The "patch" is piece of cloth that is much thinner than the material used on a t-shirt. Then a little "Maiden" Stamp.
I asked some tool at the store about it, and he said it was something Best Buy does to get people to come in their store and pay the extra $1 buying the CD from them (Circuit City has it for $8.99)
On the good side, had it on the headphones at the gym and I'm pretty freaking impressed!

I got mine at BB but haven't opened it yet. The Circuit City one is supposed to come with a poster for $1 less. I had a $10 gift certificate for BB so that's why I got it there.
New Motorhead last week.
New BLS next week.
Epica on the 19th and Amon Amarth on the 3rd of next month. Very busy extended month of CD purchasing.

Get the new Goatwhore CD. It simply kicks ass. Support underground black/death metal.
I only have the 1st four Iron Maiden albums, plus Live After Death. I won't listen to any other Maiden albums. I want to keep my Iron Maiden blood pure.

What happened to Maiden?
I'm a longtime maiden fan but boy these guys are really on auto pilot these days.
They've clearly figured out a formula-
1) name a song after some historic figure: a pilgrim, clansmen, mercinary, trooper, assassin, journeyman,- what's next a song called the Caveman, the Yeti man?
2) add some galloping bass line- dum du du dum du du dum du du dum
3) some 123 123 12 123 123 12 snare riff beat from Nicko
4) Record it crappy-low budget all digital
5) use a crappy computer generated graphic for the cover instead of real art.
voila- Iron Maiden album.
Bruce sounds damn tired on this album too.
7th Son of a 7th Son was the last high budget/good sounding Maiden album. Even though I like No Prayer, have you noticed that ever since No Prayer for the Dying they sound like they recorded their albums for like $5000 bucks in like a day with no budget on a crappy mobile pro-tools rig in a bus? Instead of like the old days on a real analog console with 2 inch tape? Their recording budget must be smaller than ever - their profit margins higher than ever too. They're already rich why don't they just retire instead of making more crappy albums- either that or make a good album.
I never thought I'd say this but I'm never buying another Maiden album- these guys are just as sold out as Sharon Osbourne is.
They've both figured ways to milk their careers.
I think these guys are going the way of Metallica- the longer they play music, the worse they seem to be. They seem to be getting to be worse musicians the longer they play. Their musicianship hasn't grown in like 15 years. They sound horribly stale and out of ideas and have since No Prayer for the Dying- I guess that's what happens when you play with the same few guys your whole friggin life.
Somewhere in Time and Powerslave- what great friggin albums
No Prayer for the Dying= Last good Iron Maiden Album
Ultimate Sin= Last good Ozzy album (Jake E. Lee was the best)
most of No Rest For the Wicked and No More Tears is pretty cheesy
Them= Last good King Diamond album
Gawd why does every band suck so bad these days????

The new maiden album is incredible. It does take more than one listen and it also takes listener to not be expecting Powerslave to enjoy, though.

funny how Powerslave or the old records didn't take more than one listen- they just kicked you in the ass the first time and recognizing their quality was easy to do the first time.
it takes a while to warm up to it = a crappy album.
I don't know why it would take so many listens to wrap your head around or warm up to a new album when it's the same formula and even more watered down that they've been doing forever and it gets more simplified and obvious the more albums they make- nothing worth studying.
Iron Maiden have become a paradoy of what they once were.
They sound formulaic and tired now.
All those who love this new Maiden crap- I don't get it- how can you love this shit? Just go pop in Powerslave or Somewhere in Time or even the Number of the Beast and then go back and pop in that Brave New World or A Matter of Life and Death Garbage- my gawd- no comparrison. It doesn't even sound like the same band with the same fire.
I think most of the people who go to Iron Maiden shows today are teenagers who have no idea how great Maiden used to be. Go look at the Live After Death tour book- now that's how a Maiden show used to be.
It's kind of like all those posers who wear Motorhead shirts and can't name a Motorhead album or don't know anything about them.
Maiden has become something you buy at Hot Topic- they've become mallcore.

Good bass lines, decent guitars, terrible drumming, and the lyrics are boring as well as Bruce trying too hard to sound heavy. He can't carry a note like he used to.

I had just listened to the entire album and I liked what I heard.
IRON MAIDEN RULE!!!!!
They ruled then and they rule now. Every song on AMOLAD is awesome. Iron Maiden still have it in them and anyone who fails to realize that must have their heads shoved so far up their asses.
My 22nd Birthday is later this month and AMOLAD would make a perfect birthday gift.

I cant stand this new album.. why the FUCK did they have to make so many 9 minute songs?? if they ended it at 5 minutes I woulda liked it.
But NO They had to go and make a 9 minute song that just bores the shit out of you, DoD was better than this shit.
Mountsegur, Paschendale > Best songs since Bruce came back.
I dont know why some of you dont like that DoD kind of thing but it was great until they had to make the songs way too fucking long

i'm an old school maiden fan. i hated BNW and thought DoD was just about tolerable. i had absolutely given up hope on maiden releasing a good album. but AMOLAD is actually quite solid. it is more progressive than other maiden albums so it suits my taste much better than it would fit the taste of an average metal fan.
also, dont judge this album by the opener Different World. That is the only straight out 'commercial' rocker. all other tracks are diverse and have lots of interesting things going on.

All of you "Remember when..." and "It ain't Powerslave..." like minded seniors are fucking comedy. Like crotchety old men shaking your fist from some rocking chair at the fact the Earth continues to turn. Guess what? You'r Camero is gone and your garage band died in 1986. So let the pro's continue to do what they do best. The New Iron Maiden is certainly on par with the times... Its solid, it sounds just fine production wise, and no shit it doesn't sound Like Powerslave, because they wrote Powerslave what is essentially 20 fucking years ago. Its a lose-lose. Sound the same? "They suck." Sound different? "They suck." The critical reviews reflect more of the detractors and less of the musicians. And who gives a flying shit if a tee-shirt is sold @ Hot Topic... God Forbid some 12 yr old kid hunting for a Green Day patch see's a cool shirt and becomes interested.... Old detractors need to fucking die off and let forward thinkers thrive....

maiden fan here since 1983
the new album took me 1 or 4 listens to get into
anyway i like it :) its not powerslave or number of the beast or what ever else floats your boat.This is maiden 2006 get used to it or go and listen to some other shit

Thats a pretty cool thing for AOL to do. I remember back in the day you could do the same at Blockbuster Music with any of the cds but the quality was so shitty with those headphones. It was so terrible I couldnt even listen to entire albums.
