THE 69 EYES To Support CRADLE OF FILTH On North American Tour - Oct. 11, 2006
Finnish goth metallers THE 69 EYES have been confirmed as direct support for CRADLE OF FILTH on a two-month North American tour beginning in January 2007. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

As previously reported, THE 69 EYES are currently in the studio recording their new album, "Angels", with producers Hiili Hiilesmaa and Johnny Lee Michaels — the same team that was responsible for the band's last CD, "Devils". The album will be out through Virgin/EMI in the early 2007.

The first single from "Angels", entitled "Perfect Skin", has already been completed and is available for streaming from EMI Finland's jukebox at this location. The commercial release of the single will be closer to the end of the year/January 2007, depending on the country. The additional tracks on the single will be live versions of "Devils", "Christina Death" and "I Just Want to Have Something to Do" (originally written and performed by THE RAMONES), recorded at the sold-out Whisky A Go-Go show in Hollywood in March 2006. The band will film a video for "Perfect Skin" with director Ralf Strathmann in Hollywood in mid-October.

In other news, THE 69 EYES has announced that Cleopatra Records is releasing the band's entire back catalogue in the U.S. Currently available are the "Framed In Blood - The Very Blessed Of…" compilation CD and the "Helsinki Vampires" live album plus a DVD containing the band's videos. Later on this year and in 2007, the "Paris Kills" and "Blessed Be" albums will follow.

Also on THE 69 EYES front, "Zombie Love – Vampires, Ghosts and The 69 Eyes", a hard-cover comic book by the band' singer, Jyrki 69, came out in September. It is a beautiful collection of Jyrki's old-school goth 'n' roll comics going back all the way to the '80s published by Deggael Communications. The first signed edition of 1,000 was immediately sold out from the publisher but the new regular edition is on its way. Meanwhile, Ville Juurikkala's two-year photographic journey with THE 69 EYES, called "Route 69", will come out in October. Jyrki has also been writing comments from the road for the book. It will be published by Like.

You can always tell the true character of a band by the bands they tour with. When In Flames decided to cast their lot with Lacuna Coil and Soil, i knew that I may as well abandon all hope for them returning to the melodic gothenburg metal that I loved.
And now Cradle of Filth are releasing a single that sounds like HIM doing melodic black-metal, and touring with The 69 Eyes (who basically sound like HIM).
Truly, this is a band that no longer fancies itself cut from the same cloth as Immortal and Emperor. And Dani can talk as much as he wants about how "confining" the current black-metal scene us, but the fact of the matter is that the new Cradle song is extremely slick, commercial, and thoroughly un-kvlt. Also: he spells his name like a girl.

If this were indeed a proven train of thought , then what the hell did it mean when Iron Maiden not once but twice toured with Twisted Sister in the 80's? IM were at the pinnacle of their "Golden Age" material. In fact on the "Piece of Mind" tour they arrived with Coney Hatch and Fastway. I wouldn't look too far into the opening band stuff. However, yes...COF has changed. Is it for the better or worse? I believe that is in the ear of the listener. Bands mature, progress, experiment and just change things up from time to time. Dani has spoken about his gothic/punkish influences just as much as his thrash/black/heavy metal influences. The pendulem is just swinging in the other direction a bit.

Have an open mind and open ears...........

they say that shit cos their right.
i mean, have you heard any of the newer songs man?

they're terrible, and the 69 eyes is nothing different than HIM (blatant type o negative rip-off with less class and less sense of humor).

I honestly don't get where the HIM comparisons come from. Sure they're both Finnish, but when I hear 69 Eyes I hear a lot more AC/DC in them than I do Him. 69 Eyes are a lot more influenced by the 80's post-punk scene than Him, who sound a lot more contemporary. Most of these comments usually come from people who know nothing about the goth-rock scene. It's like when a hardcore kid claims death metal and black metal are just the same - of course they are to their ears, cuz they know nothing bout the genre. That kind of rampant conservativism and apathy is hardly constructive for any musical sub-culture.

Anyways, I dig 'em, but I honestly wouldn't put em on a tour with Cradle Of Filth. Yeah, their audience wears a lot of black, but the two bands sound so dissimilar. Clan Of Xymox and The Mission are both classed as goth, do they sound anything alike? No. Would you put em on a bill together? No. Some of the more eclectic and liberal members of the audience may dig 'em both, but lets me honest, eclectic is a swear word for most metalheads and the goth-rockers aren't much better. Having said that, such a bill may indeed encourage some folks to be a bit more open minded, but really that's the job of educational establishments (who fail outright) not bands!
