Ex-METALLICA Bassist JASON NEWSTED Forced To Sit Out ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA Tour - Oct. 23, 2006
As they gear up for the November 21 release of their highly anticipated Epic debut and the New Year's Eve launch of their much-buzzed-about national tour, ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA have suffered a major setback with the loss of all-star bassist Jason Newsted.

The former METALLICA member is scheduled for immediate surgery to repair a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right. Newsted suffered the injuries while trying to catch a 90-pound bass head that had fallen from atop his amp. The surgery will be followed by a lengthy rehab assignment that could leave him sidelined for up to nine months.

"I'm freaking out," says Newsted, "My heart was set on finally getting on the road with these guys, but my main focus now is to build myself back to 100%. The stage is set for the band, I wish them the best of luck."

The band — rounded out by vocalist Lukas Rossi, drummer Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE) and guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-GUNS N' ROSES) — is currently searching for a suitable replacement to handle touring duties while Newsted recovers.

"When we started this project, I was handed a list of names — guys who could potentially anchor our rhythm section," says Lee. "I responded by crumpling up the paper and asking, 'Where's Newsted?' Jason was always the right guy for this band and we'll miss having him with us as we kick off our album and tour, but we know he'll be back as soon as he can pick up and play. As for who will handle bass duties until then, we've got a few monster guys in mind, any one of which can hit the ground running. Stay tuned."

A torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right... Don't know what those are but it sounds painful. Hope he gets well soon.

i thought newsted quit metallica, because they wussed out. but here lately, newsted has reached an even lower level. they both need to go back to doing to kicking ass, or taking a nap. haha.

you know he set this up himself - better to injure yourself and then be out of such a project...

Being in "Rockstar Supernova" is a much larger wound.

"That 90-pound bass head was divine intervention, save your career and run."

His career was over when he left Metallica.

BTW, there are NO 90 pound bass heads. Bass CABINETS maybe, but even a tube head doesn't way that much. Fucking liar.

A torn rotator cuff must be even more painful than having to listen to Lukas' singing. Either way, get well soon, Jason.

For the love of god, you have Metallica behind your belt. Please, I beg you, consider this gods work and don't tour. Leave the group. Voivod calls you. Don't do this to yourself, I begeth thee.

who's there?
someone who apparently didn't make enough money on TV to let a 90lb bass head hit the floor.......

basically, he's gettin out while the gettins' good. i guess he's had enough embarassment

(1) Jason looks kinda like Beavis now.

(2) Lukas Rossi is a shitty emo-looking singer and does not come CLOSE to deserving to be in a band with Tommy, Gilby, and Jason.

(3) This "band" is an illusion, a mere marketing project to try to out-do American Idol and Rockstar: INXS.

(4) There will be no albums after this one, which will suck anyway. Maybe another tour. At the most.

(5) Rossi will end up on "COPS" in four years, selling crack to feed himself and running down the highway in his undies.

(6) See (2).

(7) Thay should replace Rossi with another singer, not naming any names (Axl Rose, Vince Neil, James Hetfeild).

You don't think an all tube SVT head weighs 90lbs? Or maybe a rack mounted rig (power amps, etc). I'd bet it does.

and SVT weighs 50lbs, if it was rackmounted with other stuff it might get to 90.

They have a pretty big arena booked out here in MA and I'm confused as to why.
Now with Jason gone it's basically "Tomy Lee" playing these big places (no one associates Gilby with Guns, people know Slash, Duff and Axl maybe Izzy.)
This is going to be ugly.

He probably did this on purpose! That's one way to bail out of the tour. J/K but he really didn't seem happy about Lukas.

That's one heavy fish! Actually it's a very common surgery that he will undergo- should take about 2-2 1/2 hours. Normal recovery time will vary but with rehab/physical therapy he'll be back to sitting on the stage looking pensive at the young people who are vying to get a spot as guitarist in Voivod- since Piggy passed away RIP. All the while still picking up the royalties check for his work with Metallica. Oh yeah and the $.17 that he'll be owed in about 4 years when someone picks up the Echobrain cd out of the bargain bin.thinking that it'll make a nice coaster.
