It's Official: DIO, IOMMI, BUTLER And WARD To Reunite As HEAVEN AND HELL

A representative for BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed that the highly anticipated and much-rumored reunion of Iommi, Ronnie James Dio, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward appears to be shaping up and taking a new form. After various promoters have approached the former SABBATH bandmates' respective representatives, the guys have started taking all of this very seriously, as they have aparently wanted to reunite for some time now. It looks as if the new shape may be that of HEAVEN AND HELL — that is the moniker that the band is likely to use on their new venture. If all goes well, HEAVEN AND HELL should be hitting the road in early 2007.
In an August 16, 2006 appearance on the syndicated radio show "Rockline", Dio had the following to say about the possibility of further collaborations with BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi:
"We've already written one [new] song together. The reason for that is that there's a release coming out, it's called 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years' — they've already done one, of course, 'Black Sabbath: The Ozzy Years'; that was the beginning and, really, the best part of it all — but they've decided to do one, again, 'Black Sabbath: The Dio Years', and we wanted to make it a little but more special, not just give you things you've not heard from a live perspective. These are two things you'll never hear again — two new songs. We are going to do that. It's been fun already. The one we've done — the one that I've done with Tony has been really wonderful — just great to realize how magnificent a player he was. You forget that after 10 years at a time that you don't work with someone. So we are gonna be doing that. And I hope you'll like it. I think it'll be great."
On the rumors of him possibly rejoining BLACK SABBATH, Dio said, "There's always rumors about everything — about a RAINBOW reunion, about a BLACK SABBATH reunion. Our purpose was to do this because we wanted to have this product be a bit more special than anything else — not just, 'Here's a live track you've never heard before.' I mean, that's cool, but I'm sure people have heard that. We wanted to do something a bit more special, so the whole band would write and play these songs, and… They've wanted to hear them long enough, so here they are. But it's not anything that we've talked about leading to anything other than that. No, it's for that project."

Here's an interesting question for all the Blabberreaders to ponder.
When Dio toured with the band last, billed as "Black Sabbath" they of course played all the Ozzy-era hits.
Now, they're touring as "Heaven & Hell"...so will they play strictly their own stuff, or will they play "Paranoid"?

I've never bothered to pay money for a Black Sabbath show, thanks to Ozzy's condition and especially his wife. But I'd actually spend my hard earned cash to see "Heaven And Hell" aka Black Sabbath with a quality vocalist! Dio rules!

There are not many bands left that I need to see, but I catch DIO everytime he plays anywhere within a 3 hour drive. My absolute favorite vocalist and artist. I hope this tour happens as it would be amazing. And yes, I hope they would play some ozzy era songs with Dio singing. In fact, I think I will listen to "Live Evil" on the way to work this morning.

What condition ? Ozzy has Parkinson, it's not like he can do anything about it. I saw Black Sabbath live last summer and they were awesome, what fucking condition are you talking about.
And fuck her wife, this has nothing to do with it, I know she's a real ego-bitch. Ronnie James Dio is the one with the condition - the ugliest motherfucker on this planet, but yes he has a strong voice.
I don't understand this news, it's like Iommi, Butler and Ward are stabbing Ozzy in the back in a sence, despite they haven't released any new material to seal their reunion - Ozzy has two solo albums in the works. But still, everyone knows Ozzy hates Dio. It's blasphemy I tell ya, The Real Black Sabbath is Ozzy, Iommi, Butler, Ward - and you know it. I hope they don't use Black Sabbath as their name, Heaven and Hell seems more appropriate.

Apparently that's not true. Black-Sabbath.com had it confirmed from an official source that "Black Sabbath" is technically still Tony Iommi's "sandbox." It's just speculated that they chose the name "Heaven and Hell" for artistic reasons.

Man, Iommi Geezer and Bill have been complaining for ages that they're sick of the same boring setlist. I think it was Geezer who said they only stick with the same setlist coz Ozzy either can't or won't play anything else.
And remember it was Ozzy himself who said he isn't interested in making a new Sabbath music record, so you can't blame the other 3 guys for that.

Its to bad alot of people dont know Sabbath without Ozzy singing. The Dio and Ian Gillian Sabbath material is better than most of the Ozzy stuff. And I also like most of the albums they did with Tony Martin. People just never gave them a chance once Ozzy got the boot. Dio was and will always be a better singer than Ozzy. So was Ian Gillian back in the day. If this reunion does happen, its gonna rule. But selling tickets could be a problem. I know for a fact none of the younger kids are gonna wanna see this. Their to busy listening to Emo/Metalcore music. LAME!!!!

I missed Dio/Sabbath for Dehumanizer. TV Crimes is a killer song, and I hope they play it. Dio can still sing, I saw him with Iron Maiden and Motorhead here in San Jose 3 years ago, he stole the show. Dio era Sabbath is my favorite!!!

Is a great drummer. But I always felt that Vinny Apice was just as good. I know Bill has said that its not Sabbath without Ozzy. Bill was always Ozzy's closest friend in that band. I never got a chance to see Dio with Sabbath because I was to young at the time. Dehumanizer was one of the best Metal albums to come out in the 90s imo..

I was just talking to friend of my about this while we sat in my lair and spun 'Heaven and Hell'. We figured it was a matter of time but I'm really excited that Bill is involved. He doesn't play out as much as the other guys and there are some really killer drum parts on H&H. Wonder if it will be 'A Night of Heaven and Hell'. That would be awesome because I would like them to have enough time to play a few off of Dehumnizer.

As great as he was, he is now a shadow of his former self. Dio, on the other hand, sounds as good as ever, if not better. They guy is amazing and his voice is the best in metal IMO. I like that they are touring under a different name. They can free themselves of the Ozzy-era and just concentrate on the Dio-era stuff. No matter what anyone says, you know that people still show up at a Black Sabbath concert expecting to hear "Paranoid" or "War Pigs" or "Iron Man" and now they don't have to do that stuff. I hope they play the entire "Heaven & Hell" album. This is good news. Plus, calling themselves Heaven & Hell still keeps the door open for reunions with Ozzy as Black Sabbath (should they ever do that again).

Heaven and Hell, i mean Black Sabbath is one band no one should live with out. I think they will put out some decent stuff. If it turns anything like Dehumanizer then it will rock. Love this stuff to death.

At least, a new Black Sabbath Album is coming.... HELL YEAH!!!!. I´ve been waiting for this a lot of time, and Dio got the guts to do it instead of Ozzy. I mean, I´m an Ozzy fan, I´ve been listening to his music since I´m into Heavy music but Dio stills kick ass... I think Tony, Bill and Geezer are sick and tired of waiting for Ozzy´s willingness to take the mic and sing his soul out in a new Sabbath record. He really prefers to record with Zack instead of doing it with the Sabbath guys. I really think he´s scared of not singing as well as in the past!!!!

Most awesome news. Ozzy-era Black Sabbath had its time in the sun. Nowdays I actually do the unthinkable and change the station each time "Paranoid" is played for the millionth time. Dio's work with Sabbath is sickeningly underrated.
And do something that Ozzy's been having trouble in doing for the past 5 years and do a real Canadian tour outside of just Montreal and Toronto please?
