EDDIE VAN HALEN's Son WOLFGANG Named New VAN HALEN Bassist

TMZ.com reports that VAN HALEN has officially hired 15-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen — the son of guitarist Eddie Van Halen and estranged wife Valerie Bertinelli, and nephew of drummer Alex Van Halen — as the new bassist for the band. Wolfgang replaces longtime bassist Michael Anthony, who left the band earlier this year. VAN HALEN spokesperson Janie Liszewski tells TMZ.com that Wolfgang, known as " Wolfie," has already joined his dad and uncle for rehearsals in the studio. Wolfie played dates with his father during the band's 2004 tour, and the song "316" on 1991's "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" was named for Wolfie's birth date that same year. According to TMZ.com, the band is still without a lead singer, despite rumors that David Lee Roth might rejoin.

anyone who heard EVH on Stern last month knew this well in advance. He announced on there that Van Halen is Eddie Alex and his son because his son is "gonna be dangerous" He also, at the time, hinted that Wolfie would be singing but for know we are going to endure another endless round of DLR reunion nonsense.

Bad, bad decision. A reunion without Michael Anthony cannot be considered a reunion. Whatever Ed had up his ass about Anthony remains a mystery. However if you read DLR's book from a long time ago, he reveals Ed tried to fire Michael Anthony as long ago as 1996.

Obesity is ok for a 15 year old, but smoking is bad. They will both kill you. So one you can't talk about and the other is fair game. Americans should give fat people the same shit we give smokers, but we don't. Why? I don't care if they record again, it just sucks that nothing they do now will ever sound like or come close to the legacy of the old songs. The whole Van Halen family could replace the other 2 members and it will still NOT sound like what we all want it too. Roth can't sing like that anymore, and without Michaels backing vox you can totaly forget it. Eddie will probably get a porn star to front the band now anyway.

I think this is the straw that broke the camel's back. And the camel is made up of Van Halen fans. Michael Anthony turned out to be a camel too. Eddie seems to work at a slower and slower pace when it comes to producing music, so Mikey had to do something between 1998 and 2004. He couldn't just wait around and collect more hot rods, having less by ways of royalty checks and touring share.
He seemed like the guy who seemed to enjoy Van Halen the most over time, unlike those bitter men Ed and Al - and a whining Sammy and mocking Dave.
My patience with this band is finished. This is the last chapter of a pathetic soap opera that began over twenty years ago.

Eddie surprises you and pulls more crap. This band has become the ULTIMATE disgrace. I loved Van Halen for years (Yes, even the Hagar years). But, its' been just one debacle, embarrassment after another. This is just painful to watch. From that publicity stunt with Roth at the VMA's to the reunion tour with Sammy where they gave sub-par shows because they all hated each other. To just two months ago where eddie was on the Stern show telling everyone he had a cure for cancer????? Michael Anthony was a loyal dude for YEARS!!!!!! And should have been treated better.

And perhaps his son does need to pay his dues alot more before giving him such a big gig. I respected that Tom Araya did the same thing with his brother with regards to touring with him. But just giving your *15* year old son such a huge gig like this? Thats not setting a good example. Why not just give him a few Swiss Alps villas for Christmas this year while youre at it? You dont hand your 15 year old the world and expect him to remain egoless and humble. He will expect everything to be handed to him. And Im sure EVH is saying "well I know my kid and he wont be that way". He's 15...kids change when situations change. Wont make him a bad kid or a bad person but he will probably develop these very negative personality traits.

Without David Lee Roth there won't be a Van Halen "Reunion" Tour.
So, "Diamond" Dave should tell Eddie, Alex and the Management that he will not take part in any Van Halen "Reunion" tour unless Michael Anthony is a member of the band and it's the original four members.
Not a band consisting of Dave, Eddie, Alex and Eddie's fat rich brat on bass.
It would just be a bigger joke than it already is going to be.

This move doesnt bother me. Of course, the tour wouldn't be a reunion tour. Eddie has screwed up the entire Van Halen thing since the 80's. Hager the Horrible should've been gone long ago and DLR should've been on vocals. Eddie shouldve been doing side projects, solo albums, unreleased outtakes, etc.. Eddie's productivity over his career has been minimal. Eddies songwriting has sucked for years, and he continues to make poor decisions, like getting involved with the porn movie just recently! Eddie has some serious screws loose, its really a sad what Eddie could've been. And Alex is the only person that can deal with him.
MY BURNING QUESTION IS WHY IS WOLFIE SO HEAVY AND HIS PARENTS ARE SO THIN?

Why would anyone ever put down a musician's playing if you've never heard them play? Let Wolfgang's playing speak for itself. We've all seen musicians of all ages, colors and sizes who are world-class, and plenty who suck too. A lot of truly great musicians have been the children of other truly great musicians. Eddie's dad was a musician too who played on a Van Halen CD, why not let his son play in the band too? Hey, I know its not the same thing, but does anyone remember Zeppelin bringing in Bonham Jr. to play with the band? It sounded good to me! Let Jr's chops speak for themselves!

The kid looks alot more like Michael than Eddie.....so the back up vocals might not be that bad after all.....anybody can play the bass lines to VH songs.....but it's gonna be hard to sing back up the way Michael does......and who knows...we just might see Eddie and Michael reunite on the Maury Povich Show for a DNA test to find out who the real father is.

Van Halen died after "1984" was released. Without the original four members, you will not get the same great sound out of VH that we all love. It's A Fact. In case you havent noticed, other old rock bands have been doing tours with new members, and it's not a big deal. If you don't like what they're doing, don't go to the concerts. It's simple. And what's the big deal about bad-mouthing Eddie???...Rockers in the 1960's were doing way worse stuff to their bodies and nobody said anything. He is the greatest guitarist this world has ever seen, and has his own style of playing and didn't copy anyone elses. And why put down his son Wolfgang??? Because he's fat?...Jerry Garcia, Meat Loaf, Mama Cass were all fat, and they still kicked ass. Just give this kid a chance, so what if he's young, maybe he'll have some of his dad's talent in him.

Hey this is winksie, or Alex or Alexandra...whatever...anyways this is soo cool. Wolfie's only 15 and he's already following his dad's footsteps. Van Halen has been one of my favorite rock bands since I was little, and I'm only 15! I totally want to see their concert. It's so awesome that Wolfgang is doing this. The thing I'm most excited about is David Lee Roth coming back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have never really been a Sammy Hagar fan, so this is big for me. Wow, though! I would love to be Wolfie right about now!!! Now, if only I could see steve miller, then my life would be complete!

A bass player is an integral part of band but not the most important key element. While Micheal Anthony did bring a lot of driving bass riffs in classic VH hits it was mainly Eddie Van Halen's innovative lead guitar riffs that captivated much of the music world and the music consumers in the late 70's and throughout the 80s.
I'm sure Wolfgang Van Halen is probably very talented after all his dad is Eddie Van Halen. I mean can you picture growing up and having your Dad showing you how to do double tapping and "shredding" guitar riffs. Of course you wouldnt cause your dad isnt Eddie Van Halen. Besides that Wolfgang has a chance to be on a world stage. Wolfgang was named after Wolfgang Mozart who was quite the musician back in the day too. Eddie Van Halen started out playing piano and learned classical music (MOZART, Beethoven, etc) Which he explained in a guitar publication helped him in his guitar playing. A musical foundation and technical know how. Yep that was Eddie V.H. playing keyboards on JUMP.
I'd like to hear what Van Halen will sound like with Wolfgang playing and singing. That Cherone (spelling?) as lead singer experiment was doom to fail...one Extreme was known for its soft easy listening "More than Words" unlike the boisterous "Cant drive 55, Your love is driving me crazy" Sammy Hagar Rocker and
Dance the night away David Lee Roth. That definitely was a deviation from one extreme to the other...from David Lee Roth to Sammy Hagar to Gary Cherone. That was a bit too much for any Van Halen fan. To this date I have not heard one song off of Van Halen III. How could I?
At least its a Van Halen replacing Michael Anthony instead of say someone way out there. Like Gary Cherone. I could have seen Van Halen being fronted by someone with more of a rocker reputation. Or Rocker pedigree. I think Wolfgang Van Halen fits as a Rocker pedigree. Although not all kids of famous musicians are necessarily as talented and gifted as their parents. I have a feeling Wolfgang will surprise a lot of people.

All you Van Halen purist can mourn the phasing out of Michael Anthony as the bass player. Or you can embrace what Wolfgang Van Halen brings to Van Halen and the world in general.
As aging Van Halen fans we are all aware of all the rap music and dance club techno sound that has taken over MTV and most of the clubs with the younger generation. A lot of young kids and adults pretty much are going with Goth and Rap and techno dance, or in some cases country. Unless theyve embraced their mom and dads classic rock records and tapes and such. Other than that...they listen to anti social "People are shit" or some guy rapping about "banging with the girl next door" (which is some of the better stuff mind you)
Wolfgang brings more than Michael Anthony ever would...because in order for Van Halen classics to become popularized and embraced by the younger crowd, they have to have a younger appeal. Wolfgang might even get my son (has the same birthday as wolfgang 3-16) to embrace Van Halen..instead of Slip Knot..and maybe you're young teenie living in gangsta dream.
