GUNS N' ROSES' Management Explains Portland Cancellation - Nov. 6, 2006
According to a press release issued by GUNS N' ROSES' management, the band's concert tonight (Nov. 6) at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine was cancelled "due to limitations imposed by local fire marshals."

A band spokesperson commented: "Axl [Rose] and the band are very unhappy about not being able to play for the fans in Portland but have been advised after several meetings with local fire marshals Nelson Collins and Bob Cadigan that they have made it impossible for the band to perform their show to the usual high standards that their fans deserve.

"More importantly, we have been informed that officials intend to enforce rules and regulations that should not and do not apply in this venue. Our production manager and crew have been in this building with CLAY AIKEN and GREEN DAY and none of the restrictions imposed on GUNS N' ROSES were experienced by those artists. It is our opinion that they are going out of their way to target and single out GUNS N' ROSES and the band's loyal fans. Following consultation with the band's manager, agent and promoter, it was felt that it was best to cancel the show. It is a regrettable decision, particularly at this late notice, but it is of paramount importance that our fans have the best experience possible without being harassed and threatened.

"We look forward to continuing the tour in Worcester on Wednesday."

Please note that tickets can be exchanged at the DCU Center show in Worcester, Massachusetts this Wednesday night, November 8. Tickets will be exchanged for best available locations at the DCU Center.

If you are unable to attend the Worcester show, refunds will be available at point of purchase.

Are you sure that was the reason? Or was it because dear old Axl couldn't be assed going on stage that night as he was busy on his playstation?

This guy is such a sham. I guess your high priced lawyer can whip up any rhetoric needed to save your ass Axl. Be thankful.

"It is our opinion that they are going out of their way to target and single out GUNS N' ROSES and the band's loyal fans"

Yeah that's right, the fire marshals have a grudge against GNR. That REALLY sounds plausible lol!

sounds like this will be a blame axl thread for the show being cancelled. Hopefully some of the morons that will say its axl's fault realize that they have to read the article first.

How can Axl deliver a phenomenal show if he doesn't actually show up? I find it hard to beleive theyre as good as anyone. And where is Priest and Maiden on your legends list.Oh,you saw them too, right.

That explanation is bogus. A buddy of mine does security at the Civic Center and the official word is that Axl refused to go on unless there were more than 3000 people there. The advance tickets didn't sell too well, however at the time of the cancellation there were just over 3000....which should have satisfied his royal highness. Fuck Axl Rose, Maine doesn't want that washed up shitbag here anyway.

That is total fucking bullshit. Let's think here.... do you really think the fans will complain about the lack of a little extra pyro or whatever, and prefer the band not play at ALL? Or would they rather watch the band perform anyway, which is all they payed for to begin with????

" If you had nuts you would play and F the rules. That is what the REAL GNR would do! Before AXHOLE was running the show."

For the record, there was no GNR before Axl Rose. He started the fucking band. Secondly, Axl has always cancelled shows since the fucking beginning. This is not a recent thing. People keep saying all this shit about the fans being screwed over all the time and yet the same fucking people keep seeing the shows and buying the albums. So who is the really screwed up one here huh?

I overheard a woman with her little son the other day all excited about taking him to see GnR at the Civic Center. Hell the kid was all pumped for it too. Despite the fact that I hate GnR, I feel bad for that little kid.

so who is this friend of a friend of a friend who knows someone close to his friends dog who's owner is the brother of a guy who works secriuty for the civic center. lol

the fire marshall jsut screwed 3,000 fans out of a show by deciding the day of show to call it off. Nice repeat of Vancouver 2002. If it wasnt the fire marshalls fault why havent they put out there own press release saying it was all axl...

They knew axl goes on late at shows, its common knowledge. I wish he went on earlier too, but he doesnt so we have to deal with it.
