SEBASTIAN BACH Comments On GUNS N' ROSES' Portland Concert Cancellation - Nov. 8, 2006
Former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach, who is currently touring North America as the opening act for GUNS N' ROSES, has commented on the cancellation of GN'R's Nov. 6 concert in Portland, Maine. In a live interview with the Hartford, Connecticut radio station WCCC which aired Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 7), Bach stated, "Basically what happened is that GUNS N' ROSES has a huge pyro show — anybody that's seen the concert knows that to be the case. And when the fire marshall showed up, they were not into it — they were like, 'This is too much.' Also, they have these laws up there in Maine now where they literally told GUNS N' ROSES and PAPA ROACH and us, they said any fans caught in the building smoking a cigarette will be immediately arrested, any bandmember on stage with a beer in his hand will be escorted out of the venue and taken into jail. And it's like,' Dude, it's a rock concert. It's a ROCK show.' Basically, it felt like they didn't want the thing to go down. And I read on Blabbermouth where it said 3,000 tickets were sold for the show, which was a 5,500 seater. And I'm like, dude, it's Portland, Maine. After 15 years, the guy's [Axl] never played there — that's not unexpected, like, to come back into town… I think that there's a real peculiar thing about human nature where people really appreciate people only after they're dead. It's like Dimebag Darrell — we all agree that he's the most legendary guitar player ever, right? A friend of mine. Nobody really mentions the fact that when he was playing the night he died, there was probably 150 people in front of him. He was at the Alrosa Villa, which is a complete dump. And then he died, and now it's like, 'Dimebag's my hero. Oh, my God… He was more important to me than anything. I'm the ultimate…' It's like, 'Where were you when DAMAGEPLAN was touring?' So here Axl's like, 'Oh, you only sold 3,000 tickets.' That's after 15 years. We've got a sold-out Madison Square Garden the day after tomorrow. So, for me, it's like… Dimebag used to say, 'Those are the highs and lows of rock and roll.' So, for me, if GUNS can't do their whole show… It's like KISS wouldn't show up without doing their whole show. If you're coming into a venue with a concert and a production, then you wanna give the full show. But it wasn't for tickets, because that [3,000 people in a 5,500 seater] would have looked pretty good, actually."

...should it makes a differrence, if this a 5000 seater? Fact is - he sold only 3000 tickets and the pyro-show of Gun's Roses is not sooo spectecular - they can easiley play without pyros, they are not Rammstein, and even Rammstein toured through parts of the U. S. without pyro-show. So what? Seems to me that the new coverband is not interesting for the people.

SEBAS BACH > Axl Hose

It's true that venues in places in North America are forcing the fans not to do any shit at all. Any shit at all.

I saw Slipknot once and we weren't allowed to drink beer IN the arena, we had to drink in the corridors and ppl smoked cigarettes outside in a designated spot surrounded by cables.

Gigantour 1 was somewhat just as soft.

Ppl still managed to smoke a joint in the arena during the performance anyhow, but no drinks or cigarettes was seen...

It's like RAVES. They used to be clandestine. Now they're watched by authorities. What's the point anymore.

I live in Maine. Anyone who wasted money on tickets to see Axl is crazy. Buying the tickets you know you are putting money on the line. You never know if the guy will have a hissy fit about what color M&Ms he has in his dressing room. Of course Sabastian is backing up GnRs story this is the first arena tour he has been on since he got fired from Skid. No one kicks a gift horse in the mouth. I have been to many shows in Maine and they pyro has never been a problem. KISS has played there many times with full pyro. Yes it is a non smoking building. But the security just comes over and has you put it out if you are caught. The peramiters of the fire marshall code are listed and sent to the show's promoter before an agreement is even signed for them to play a venue. If you need that much pyro (more than KISS) waht doea that say about your music? Your a rock band. That much pyro only works for bands trying to create a larger than life image on stage (like KISS).Axl did not even make it to Portland that day. Since he flies from show to show by himself he never even came to Maine. Axl thhough his previous actions has only himself to blame that people always blame cancelations on him. I resent the Dimebag reference in Sabastian's comments. Damageplan were a new band and Dime and Vinnie said that they were going to raise Damageplan like a new band starting from the bottom. A true professional would play to 10 fans it doesn't matter how may butts are in the seats. You are still getting to do what you love and what made you famous in the first place.

So it's somehow pathetic that a guy like Dimebag in a brand new band is playing in a dump with only 150 people in the crowd still had the balls to play, yet a multi-millionare doesn't think enough of his 3.000 fans that actually cared to see his cover band couldn't go on because he couldn't get his ego-driven head over the fact he couldn't use explosions during his set? I don't quite get the correlation that he is trying to explain. Also when someone books a tour isn't the rules of the venue one of the first things a tour manager should find out? Like hey is your place big enough for our stage? Can we use explosions?
Congrats on the sell-out at the Garden by the way it is only in the biggest city in the US, that draws a lot of fans from Jersey and Conneticut, I don't think it would be hard to find 20,000 people to sell that place out.
At the end of day isn't it about the music Bach?

personally...I find this entire conversation very interesting. I work in the construction industry as a professional engineer and it would honestly not suprise me in the sligtest taht what Axl is saying is true. THe Fire Marshell has teh final say in what hapens in situations like this - and honestly if the Fire MArshel has an issue with Axl - doesn't like the road manager - doesnn't like the pyro guy they can make life hell for the band. Maybe the Pyro guy did somethign to piss of the Fire Marshell (for example if the FM asked the band to modiify there pyro for the ceiling height, stage location etc) and the guy told him they wouldn't - pissing match follows and away you go.

Now do I think Axl would cancel a show due to poor ticket saes? Ya I do - but Axl has bailed on amany shows / tours in the past and hasn't gone around blaming hte fire Marshell or some shit. Typically he'd lay low and act liek nothing happened.

I cant stand this "Savage Animal".. He's acting like he's Axl's spokesman and is gonna find himself going back to Jersey with his tail between his legs if he doesn't stop talking.. Do you really think that Axl Rose spent the last 12 years in seclusion to have Sebastian Bach come out and give him oral in front of the whole country.??? And thats another thing, Sebastian was hired to front a band that was about to be huge, and was then fired... CONGRATS... And since when is Darrel "Dimebag" the greatest or most legendary guitarist ever.. Im sure to Pantera fans he was great and all.. But in no way a legend.. I never even heard of that guy till he got shot.. So now what,., do I have to go buy a poster of him and hang it up next to my Jimmi Hendrix pictures... I think not.!!!!

Cause when you are a big time and have big time money you can do that. No pressure.

Bout like the story of Hank Williams Jr. ... Took that sabbatical in the woods/mountains back in the daze.

These people^ don't give a fukk what you think.
Do you think Hank gave a sh*t at the time?
He just wanted to get away from the bullsh*t nonsense!
Same with Axl.

However , who did Axl call when in NYC?
He called Bach cause he knows Bach can bring it.
If Axl is sick who is gonna fill the shoes? the Back-ster!!!
Who can still bring the 80s hard rock sleeze and not look cheeze
BACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and
It brings them back to when Skid Row toured with Guns n' Roses, back in those daze.
Axl has a sentimental side you all will never see and you haters are scared of.

Just keep on hating & being scared + you always got some good ol emo music to rock out to wink wink hahaha

and if you dont like Hank Williams, Sebastian Bach or Axl Rose you can kiss my azz;-)

Sebastian Bach does read through this stuff from time to time!

He knows ol T-Boner got the back up...

I back up my gods-
I have since the early 80s and will until they die or I die...
+
I am not talking about when they take sabbaticals and zen out and become hermits(I still support them during that time)
I am taking 6 feet under/worm food... and that is when I will stop

until then-

yeah, the civic center is definitely not 5,500, its 8,500 or so. of course stage size changes that a bit, but not by 3,000 people. the fact of the matter is people want the REAL fucking GNR, not a glorified cover band. comparing the maine show to the supposed sold out madison square garden show is pretty ridiculous too, NYC has what, 8 million people? maine has 1 million TOTAL, and only 63,000 just in portland.

I saw Iron maiden there on there first headlining US arena tour. The Piece of Mind album tour. They had their full stage set and only about 1500 tickets sold. They played anyway. I got to the front row during Fastway's set and later caught Steve Harris wrist band. Point being they played straight out anyway for the few hardcore fans who showed. I saw White Zombie and Rob Zombie at the dinky hockey little rink called Central Maine Civic Center in Lewiston over the years they had full on pyro going. I have seen every band and never bought a G n R ticket cuz of their flakiness. I would never buy a Michael Schenker ticket these days either.

Oh and people saying only 3500 tickets sold....get real!! The place only only holds 5500 so you can add in I'm sure another 500 to 700 walk up sales and you got a venue basically 80% to 85% filled.

It depends how many seats are open and etc. My local arena has like a total of 10 000 seats I believe and for example a concert like the goo goo dolls only has half the arena opened and the stage pushed forward. It depends what the promoter thinks the band will sell and if they sell more, they open up more seats. Anyway bach made a good point , especially about dimebag. Damageplan was probably like starting from scratch, playing in shit holes and did the album even go gold? Where the hell were people then?
