Original MERCYFUL FATE Lineup Makes First Public Appearance In 22 Years
- Nov. 19, 2006
|
|
|
MERCYFUL FATE was presented with the "honor award" at the Danish Metal Awards 2006, which were held last night (Saturday, November 18) at Amager Bio in Copenhagen, Denmark. Original members Michael Denner (guitar), Hank Shermann (guitar), Timi "Grabber" Hansen (bass) and Kim Ruzz (drums) appeared in public together for the first time in 22 years to accept the award (vocalist King Diamond was unable to attend the event due to the fact that he is currently working on the new KING DIAMOND album in Dallas, Texas).
MERCYFUL FATE will always be remembered for their unquestionable mark on the history of metal, with their new innovative sound, complex arrangements, memorable melody, and their influence on bands that later took the genre to new heights, according to Wikipedia.
In 1998, METALLICA paid tribute to MERCYFUL FATE by recording a medley of classic MERCYFUL FATE songs on the album "Garage Inc." Entitled "Mercyful Fate", the medley included parts from "Satan's Fall", "Curse of the Pharaohs", "A Corpse Without Soul", "Into the Coven" and "Evil".
Lars Ulrich of METALLICA (a fellow Dane) played drums on a new version of "Return of the Vampire" on the "In the Shadows" album, which came out in 1993.

YES! NOW I KNOW A REUNION IS IN THE WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to type in caps, but I am just too damn excited.
Kim Ruzz was so underrated. The last 2 minutes of Satan's Fall had some of the best drum work I've ever heard.

A reunion with original memebers is very cool but I feel that a new release should be really well thought out cause it can make or break you so if it takes some time to come up with quality material then take the time and produce great tunes the likes of those first albums DBTO,Melissa,NUNS etc., don't want to be like a lot of these reunited bands where they just cannot capture the majic back. ok elvis has left the blabber....

You guys can't read???
King Diamond didn't even bothered to come (buy a plane ticket) to get an award and be with the original line-up for the first time since 22 years "because he lives in Texas???"....
Reunion is out of the question!

Yeah, they cannot reunite because King is busy with recording a new album and cannot take the time out to fly all the way to Denmark to accept an award. It would also cost like 500 bucks to fly there. Just because he wasn't there does not mean that they cannot reunite. I'm sure he would have loved to be there.

"Because King is busy with recording a new album" "It would also cost like 500 bucks to fly there"
Those are the excuses you've come up with? Hmmm. You are very naive.
Hope KD have a better "alibi" than this bunch of c...

Honestly, King Diamond's excuse for not coming was that he was busy recording a new album...
I doubt there'll be a reunion. As far as I know, some of the members can't stand the sight of each other!

Really??? Even if he was in the studio - he could have taken 2 days off... If it was important enough for him.
My whole point is that it's not. Hence - no reunion.

Really. He didn't even record a video-greeting or anything either. So nah, I don't think he cares that much and hence, reunion out of the question!

All the MF guys get along. The only ones that (maybe used) to hate each other's guts were Kim Ruzz and Michael Denner. King usually keeps in contact with the guys in the band.
Maybe King didn't feel like shelling out $500+ and taking out a few days from recording to get the award. It's not like King Diamond is Iron Maiden or something. How much money do you think he makes? He is also known for being a workoholic with a very odd work schedule. He probably was on a creative streak and felt like doing what he could with the album.
I don't think a reunion would happen now because the guys in the band have their own lives and aren't looking to be in a touring band now. Force Of Evil doesn't tour much, so Hank and Michael are free to do what they want. I don't know what Hank does, but Michael owns and runs a record store. Timi does something with soccer. I heard Kim Ruzz was a mailman, I don't know if he still is.

Hank works as a photographer. Among other things, he takes all the pictures for the ROCK THE NIGHT-posters, www.rockthenight.dk.

About the missing King, I would say that a flight to Denmark from Texas is like a fucking day long, 24 hour. Then add the jet lag and the flight back.
If you are in a studio concentrated on your work, this could take you a week off, and that's not funny, specially considering the price you gotta pay when you use a studio. Is like fucking gold!!!

The flight from Texas to Denmark is long, but not THAT long... I mean, it takes 11 hours to fly to Los Angeles and it can't be longer than that to Texas? But I get your point and I think it's fair enough he didn't show. Still think he could have recorded a video clip, saying thank you, though...

Well, you know, for me one hour in a plane is like two, so maybe there is the story ;) But I think it took me 14 hours to fly from Bilbao to New York (i think, not sure now, was many years ago). Anyway, you got the point, so fine for me. Travelling by plane these days can be so stressful. But maybe you have faster planes... who knows.
By the way, what a nice place Denmark is.
