MEGADETH's MUSTAINE Rumored To Have Parted Ways With ESP GUITARS - Nov. 28, 2006
According to a posting on the MEGADETH fan site Rattlehead HQ, it is strongly rumored that MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine is no longer officially endorsed by ESP Guitars. Currently this has not been officially confirmed by ESP or MEGADETH, but according to a posting by an ESP dealer on the MEGADETH forums, ESP has been instructed to sell the last of the DV and Axxion Mustaine signature lines of guitars. Some have speculated a return for Dave Mustaine to Jackson Guitars. "Rayna" of the MEGADETH forums has posted the following:

"The [Dave Mustaine Jackson return] is rumor, and nobody really knows anything other than ESP and Dave have parted ways, contrary to what everyone seems to think they know. There is the chance that maybe he'll stay and take the deal with fewer free guitars. It's an equal chance that he will go elsewhere.

"As a personal issue, it just didn't work out. Maybe Dave will speak up and finally tell his side, but nobody at ESP is badmouthing him. He will always be an icon, no matter what he plays…

"The only real fact and the one with evidence, is that as of now, Dave and ESP are no longer in business together… There are a total of 2 black DV8s (ESPs) coming from Japan, and that's it. The production is done, the Axxions and DVs are all made and out there. There's not even any backstock to replace defective ones.

"Add to that, ESP gave all its dealers the okay to whore them out and get the line over with…"

Further to this, Dave Mustaine and his signature guitars have been removed from the Japanese ESP web site.

I'm not saying they're bad per se...they're just not the most interesting instruments in my eyes. And EMG pickups only do one sound.

Why is this news? The only ESP related news I can think of that would actually be newsworthy would be:

Vito Bratta returns to guitar and now endorsed by ESP or
Jake E. Lee returns sporting new ESP guitar or
Jake E. Lee ESP signature model re-released.

EMG has been sucking ever since they came out with the stupid LTD line. Why you'd put LTD instead of ESP on your headstock, I never understood that.

Sorry my brain was thinking about EMG pickups LOL I meant ESP Guitars- let me try again:

ESP Has been sucking ever since they released the LTD line of guitars. Pretty dumb to have that on the headstock just from a corporate branding standpoint- you'd think the guitar was made by LTD. LOL

Only a matter of time. ESP great guitar but they never really pushed Dave. They had big shit about the DV8 but when he put out the Axxion they hardly had any press. And I'm sure that pissed Dave off since he designed it and sales were probably shit due to the lack of promo.

The white model with the ebony fretboard is a superb guitar for a V. I would like to try a King V but nobody around here ever has them in stock.

LTDs are made in S.-Korea, ESPs in Japan (better product quality). I heard Jackson guitars' are of poor build lately. I like both brands, even though ESP does mostly copy/improve other makers' guitars (they're Japanese after all). Just my two cents.

I'm with you Dave. I liked the Y2KV. I liked the deep cut v-body, the headstock, and the string though configuration. I didn't really like the angled headstock of the DV8, and it took me awhile to get used to to seeing you with the DV8. Though I grew to like it. I like the classic look of the Y2KV and I liked the contrast of the Jackson and the ESP in the "Of Mice and Men". You know, "looking back when I was...". This has got to be a tough decision for you. I liked the ound of the ESP on "The System Has Failed", though, I like the sound of the Jackson on the remasterd versions of the Megadeth Captitol catalog, it seems to be a little hotter, though your new line of pick-ups sound really finessed. I don't think people realize how far ahead of everyone musically, and psychologically that you actually are, "Risk" sounds great now! "Kick the Chair" James Hetfield. I don't think people understand your anti-war message. I haven't seen Megadeth yet, though I have been a big fan since I was 13 or 14. I think I got "Killing is my Business" when I was in the seventh grade. Anyway, I nearly saw you guys at the Showbox in Seattle, though I'm sure you remember that day. I also missed your acoustic shows at the Moore in Seattle. Though I could have those shows with your accoustic shows in Alaska. I also missed Gigantour when Megadeth came through San Antonio, though I remember not being far away from the Sunken Gardens and hearing you guys when The Clash of the Titans rolled through San Antonio as well. I think I was in somebody's backyard at the time and you could hear the rumble of the show...

Good! ESP is crap unless you get a $1,000 one. At least Jackson

has massproduced once with good quality and a good price.
