ROB HALFORD, ROBERT PLANT, BON SCOTT, OZZY Are Among 'Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists' - Dec. 1, 2006
Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Robert Plant (LED ZEPPELIN) and Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) are among the singers who appear on Hit Parader magazine's (cover) list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" (published in the November 2006 issue).

Commented the editors of the magazine: "Assembling our list certainly presented a daunting task considering the breadth and scope of the metal empire during its 35-year reign as rock's most powerful and enduring force. We tried our best not to turn this into some sort of popularity contest where only the most famous (or infamous) frontmen in metal lore were recognized. Sure, the likes of Plant, Halford and Tyler are here, but so are such oft-overlooked notables Mogg, Owens and Sandoval."

The complete list — which includes such headbangin' names as Rod Stewart, Ann Wilson and David Bowie — is as follows:

Ozzy is a terrible vocalist. His voice fit the doom metal sound of earlier Sabbath, but that's it.

Why the hell is King Diamond number 85? He should be in the top 3!
What about Eric Adams? King, Halford and Eric all have the greatest ranges in metal.
As much as I hate Nitro, Jim Gillette should have been on that list too. Even though they were not metal, they were certainly more metal than Linkin Park. It's sickening that most of those vocalists were on a metal list. Besides that most of them are not metal, a lot of them are TERRIBLE vocalists!

...of a list to do with anything metal-related:

Mick Jagger (the Rolling Stones might have been influential to metal, but their music is FAR from being so)
Kurt Cobain
Eddie Vedder
Maynard
Fred Durst
Trent Reznor
Serj Tankian
Steve Perry (the guy from Journey, right? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!)
David Draiman
Chester Bennington
Anthony Kiedis (love the Chili Peppers, but they're not metal. Even Flea would agree that they're not metal)
Rod Stewart (WTF?)
Scooter Ward
Aaron Lewis
Ray Davies (the Kinks were closer to punk to the best of my knowledge)
Josey Scott
Scott Stapp
Amy Lee
Dez Fafara
Ann Wilson
Wes Scantlin

Did I just see Jonathan Davis on this list? Not only was his name on this list... HE WAS LISTED ABOVE JAMES HETFILED? I'm gonna be sick. He was also above Tom Araya, Lemmy, Phil Anselmo, Brian Johnson, and SEBASTIAN BACH? Are the creators of this list trying to tell me that Jonathan Davis has pipes bigger than Sebastian Bach's? I'm not the biggest Skid Row fan in the world, but Bas can wail! Jonathan Davis is an absolutely HORRIBLE singer! Even when I was into Korn in '95 I thought he was a horrible singer. Wow, this list lacks anything coming close to credibility.

Rod Stewart? David Bowie? Amy Lee? King Diamond ranked #85? Why are Zach De La Rocha and Mike Shinoda on this list? ALL THEY EVER DO IS RAP! Trent Reznor? I like NIN but this guy is off key a lot and his voice has no dynamic quality. Steve Perry? When was Journey ever close to metal? Why is Scooter Ward from Cold on this list? The guy sings through his teeth and is completely unoriginal in his sound. And while Robert Plant is a badass on the mic, Led Zeppelin has made it clear themselves... THEY AREN'T METAL!

Where the hell is Robb Flynn from Machine Head, Chuck Billy from Testament, John Bush from Armored Saint and Anthrax (John Bush has always been a better singer than James Hetfield)?

Or what about Matt from Iced Earth, Warrel Dane from Sanctuary and Nevermore, or even Al Jourgensen from Ministry (even though Ministry in not fully blown Metal)?

Why is Fred Durst, and the singer of Puddle Of Mudd on that list?

Just shows you how most polls are popularity contests. Even Revolver's poll is a popularity contest, and I love Revolver.

Robb Flynn never gets ranked in any magazine polls. Not for guitarist or vocalist. He is the one of the best.

Phil Demmel never gets ranked either in Guitar World, and he smokes a majority of the people that get ranked.

Polls should be based on talent, not popularity.
