GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist: 'Life's Too Damn Short To Be Upset About What You Don't Have' - Dec. 12, 2006
GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal has issued a response to the news that the Italian GUNS N' ROSES fan site Gnronline.it has gone "on strike" to protest the lack of official information regarding the band and its long-awaited album, "Chinese Democracy".

As previously reported, the Gnronline.it administrators are claming that GN'R management is playing favorites with the two big American fan sites, while other worldwide fan sites are being left in the dark despite their efforts over the course of the last ten years to support the group. The Gnronline.it web site is not being updated and the almost 3,000-user forum is not being moderated until January 1, 2007. After that day, the entire site will be closed.

In a message that was released yesterday (Dec. 11, 2006), Thal had the following to say:

"Ron here — this is not a statement on behalf of GN'R, just speaking for myself, me to you.

"For whatever it's worth, I love you guys and appreciate all the support you guys have given the band. I haven't been in the band very long, but long enough to experience how great it is to have fans that care as much as you. Maybe it's too-little-too-late to let you know that, but that's how I feel, and it hasn't changed.

"From what I've seen, if ya give out info before it's 100% confirmed, and things don't happen as planned, it leads to people feeling betrayed, so info should only come at the final moment when all the piece are in place. That's not a GN'R thing, it's everything, every business or band or anything else.

"If you're looking for daily or weekly updates on things that are in the works, it'll become a big mess for everyone. Meanwhile, we're touring. It's been fucking great.

"Since my first show with GUNS in May, we've played nearly 70 shows, in 20 countries (if I counted right, at 3am after being up 30 hours... [***]) The way I see it, for two-and-a-half hours each of those nights, it's our time to connect with each other — we get to say *fuck it* to everything else in life and enjoy ourselves — that's what it's about. It's not about business or setlists or critics or anything else — it's about saying FUCK IT and gettin' high off it from beginning to end and a long time after.

"Hope y'all have been enjoying it to the fullest. Life's too damn short to be upset about what you don't have — enjoy what you do have.

"Not trying to change anything by writing ya, not answering the questions you want answered, just letting ya know that your support hasn't gone unnoticed, and I just wanna say *thank you* to the moderators and members of your forum. For the years you've devoted to the band, and hopefully years to come..."

I bet when the album finally is released (probably by the record company, Not Axl, as they will eventually be pissed off and want some fuckin revenue back from the twat) old Bumbletoe won'rt even be ON the album! It will be a relolving cast of guitarists and that will make the album VERY confussing! I mean, of the songs that have been leaked so far, can anyone say which guitarists is on what????

The phrase is "I couldn't care less". Think about what you're writing!!

Anyway, life is too short to worry about whether I'll hear the new Gn'R album before I die.

I 'm a GNR fan but I'm not holding my breath for the new cd. It's been too long and I'm bored with them at this point. I'll still but it when it comes out but I think we'll see the new Velvet Revolver before this. The cds I can't wait for are Heaven and Hell and the next Dream Theater.

How in the world a band is supposed to finish an album while touring is beyond me, unless the producer is taking forever to master the damn thing, or if Michelangelo is doing the cover art. Just doesn't make sense.

some of you guys are really ignorant douchebags criticizing Ron Thal. Hate Axl or love him, leave Ron out of it. Thal is far better a player than Izzy, Slash, and Gilby combined, and he's a super nice guy too. He's not some flash in the pan guitarist, he's been around for a long time, and has put out some great music on his own.

Just like Blabberbabies; criticize something or someone whether or not you have the slightest clue about the subject. After all, there's no penalties to pay, right?

Dear Ron: Please stop attempting to rationalize your employer's asshattery. People, especially the maintainers of that Italian site, have a world of reason to feel betrayed by his childishness.

You wished to say that these fans mean a lot to you personally, and that's very cool. But please don't give us some "life's too short" bullshit to justify the actions of the biggest assclown in rock.

Yeah you're right; Zeppelin might not have sucked so bad live if they would have replaced Page. I see your point on Iommi and Dimebag though. =)

Have you ever recorded an album? Do you have any idea what is involved? I seriously doubt it. Obviously you don't remember when the Use Your Illusion records came out. It was the exact same thing.

And to metalhead43,

I just saw them a couple of weeks ago and there was only 30-40 minutes between the last opening act and when they hit the stage! Thats pretty standard when it comes to most shows.

I've seen every form of Guns' over the years and I can say that today they sound better than ever...Axl included. Believe me, I'm more sick than anyone at the length of time we've all waited for this album to come out. But why spend time crying about it? We'll all pass the time listening to new, exciting music that is coming (Machine Head...fuck yeah, can't wait!!...among others) and leave Bumblefoot, Finck and Fortus as well as the rest of Guns N' Roses (yes, they ARE called Guns N Roses!! like it or not) out of it!!

Yes, actually, I have, and don't ask me how I would have done it while touring at the same time. No idea. Unless they're recording tracks live, which Zappa used to do a lot, even on his ostensibly "studio" albums. It just seems weird everyone going "when's it coming out?" when the band is on the road. If they're touring, they're obviously not in the studio, so........

Axl Rose and his band of near on nobodies are completely irrelevant in todays music circles.

This is NOT Guns n Roses, that band was gone many years ago and the real talent who made it what it was have gone onto better things.

Axl Rose is a fucking joker who relies on publicity stunts and baiting his "fans" with the promise of a new album to make his money.

Fuck this band...

You're a silly person. haha.

The REAL talent has left?? LOL

You obviously dont know anything about GNR. It has, from day one, been a revolving door band. Axl has been the only constant. Slash was not the original guitar player. Nor did he have an abundance of writing on Appetite for Destruction. He is, without a doubt one of the best and most influencial guitarists of all time but, lets not kid ourselves and think that Duff and Slash wouldstill actually be in the band if they had released 4 or 5 albums in the last 12 years. It's absurd!

...you clearly can't comprehend things you read can you?

Where in my post did i question the personel turnover in GNR history?

"The real talent who made it what it was", its just above if you care to scroll up.

Slash, Duff and Matt (and a fair mention to Mr Adler) regardless of what albums they co wrote, made GnR what it was and were (Along with Axl) the catalyst behind their overall success.

Yes, fair enough, Ole Beich, Rob Gardner and Tracii Guns may have technically been the original members in the most part but they were in the band no longer than about a year before Duff, Slash and Matt joined.

The original 3 simply founded the band but had little or no part in their eventual success.

Oh and not to mention Izzy or Gilby....

After they left is really when the "Megadeth effect" as i like to call it, took hold. This has happened in the last 10 or so years and look what joke this band has become.

Diatribe, you are a silly person HA HA

I thank you.
