DAVID LEE ROTH Talks About Possible VAN HALEN Reunion; Video Available

TMZ.com caught up with David Lee Roth in Manhattan last night (Wednesday, Dec. 27), and he warned that a potential VAN HALEN reunion could result in a NASCAR-style wreck. Or a "Jerry Springer"-like brawl. Or even a "Knots Landing"-esque bitchfight! Diamond Dave, looking dapper and well-coifed outside of Marquee, said that he's excited that VAN HALEN was nominated for a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but wondered whether the band would spontaneously combust if they reunited. For months, the band has hinted at a reunion, but Roth admitted in May that he hasn't spoken to guitarist Eddie Van Halen for almost two years. "A VAN HALEN reunion is a lot like NASCAR — are you there to see the winner or the crash?" mused Dave. "In this aspect, we're a lot closer to 'Jerry Springer' meets 'Knots Landing', which, to me, sells T-shirts." Eddie Van Halen and his brother Alex are prepping for a VAN HALEN tour next year, with Eddie's 15-year-old son Wolfgang on bass instead of Michael Anthony, but no singer has been officially announced. Eddie recently told Guitar World magazine, "I'm telling Dave, 'Dude, get your ass up here and sing, bitch! Come on!'... As it stands right now, the ball is in Dave's court. Whether he wants to rise to the occasion is entirely up to him, but we're ready to go." There had also been talk recently that another member of the VAN HALEN clan would be the new singer, but most reports have said the job belongs to Roth, according to Launch Radio Networks. As for having his son in the band, Eddie said, " Wolfgang breathes new life into what we're doing. He brings youthfulness to something that's inherently youthful. He's only been playing bass for three months, but it's spooky. He's locked tight and puts an incredible spin on our (stuff). The kid is kicking my ass! He's spanking me now, even though I never spanked him. To have my son follow in my footsteps on his own, without me pushing him into it, is the greatest feeling in the world." There's no word on when the new lineup will be officially unveiled.

dave is pretty much letting us know that if they do "reunite" (although i dont see how its a "reunion" without MA), that it will probably end up as a disaster. i would so be there if all 4 ORIGINAL members were in it. otherwise, not interested, although im sure they wont miss my money.

with both David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar, the Roth era kills live, but I don't think Dave has the chops to pull it off, he sounds terrible on Diamond Dave and Strumming with the Devil. VH should hire Ripper Owens..

Dear Van Halen camp (including DLR),
Time is running out you clowns. Nobody lives forever and good health is no guarantee to any of us (including all of you). If you are going to do a reunion tour and/or CD - shit or get off the pot about it already.
Either reunite or shut up and enjoy your retirement.

Roth not having the chops....I saw him last summer because I figured it would be the closest I would ever get to going to a Van Halen show.....he was a lot better than i thought he would be.....hes still one helluva showman

I have a couple of boots from DLR's tour last year. No, he's not singing like he did back in '78, but his voice is definitely stronger than it was say six or seven years ago. he really doesn't sound bad at all.

I STILL THINK IF THESE GUYS WERE TO PUT OUT SOME NEW MATERIAL THAT IT WOULD KICK OVER HALF THE BAND'S ASSES OUT THERE IN ROCK RIGHT NOW. THEY JUST HAVE GREAT MUSICAL CHEMISTRY. Him singing is the best choice. Unless you want to see someone sing. Man, don't any of you remember how bad Dave used to be live?? Forget the words cause I am wasted or whatever? After endless assurances on the radio that a reunion was inevitable, and in fact needed by all concerned parties career-wise, he's suddenly having misgivings? Could it be because of, just possibly.......oh, I don't know....Michael Anthony being replaced by Wolfgang?

It's good to hear Eddie happy and excited about music again, hopefully Dave rises to the occasion so they can kick the "CRAP" out of each other and make some interesting music again. One of Rocks greatest guitarist (drunk or sober). One of Rocks greatest Frontmen (drunk or sober), One of Rocks greastest Drummers (drunk or sober) and a 15 year old future prodigy (hopefully sober)!! Looking forward to it!

We'll see. The two songs they did the last time they got back together were great. Dave always brings a lot of energy and feeling into the recorded material. Live... well, if he could just come close to getting the lyrics right and still do some of his martial arts, that would be sweet. Ed is the wild card, which is unusual. Hope he's in good health and has his chops up.

this tour will be a disgrace if it isnt all 4 members. it would be like charlie watts and ron wood trying to go out as the stones without keith or mick, total joke.
eddie and alex already tried with gary and it was a flop. and i hope they dont go on the cbs rock star show and try to find a singer . that would be a complete joke as well.

I love how Eddie says his kid just picked up a bass on his own. Right, because if he was not Eddie Van Halen's son and was not surrounded by Dad's guitars and amps and had access to tons of VH stuff on a daily basis his entire life, he would have picked up an instument on his own. your son just followed in your footsteps on his own... Who would not pick up a bass or guitar if they were the son of Eddie Van Halen??? You'd have to be an idiot. Are you guys ready for this 15 yr old fat kid to replace Michael Anthony?

This Would be one the greatest reunions ever. It would be incredible to have Diamond Dave back in the ring. SO what if they have a controversy , they can work it out. Van halen one of the greatest bands ever to walk the earth. You guys have no idea what your talking about
