SAMMY HAGAR Hopes VAN HALEN Will Take High Road At ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME - Jan. 9, 2007
Gary Graff of Billboard.com reports that VAN HALEN's appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 12 "could go a lot of different ways," according to Sammy Hagar. That said, Hagar — the group's second frontman, from 1985-96 — tells Billboard.com he has high hopes that the famously combative group will take the high road on that particular night.

"My hope is that everyone lets everything go and we go there in complete respect of each other and in a loving way, with the attitude that 'I couldn't have done it without you' towards everybody," says Hagar, who received the official word of VAN HALEN's selection at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico, where he and VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony have spent the past week jamming with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith in a newly developing side project called CHICKENFOOT.

But he also notes that, "The biggest fear for me is there'll be animosity and 'I won't talk to that guy' and maybe some harsh words towards each other or some sly remarks in speeches ... and it's not out of the question that that could happen. But in the end, no matter what happens, when you hear the music you're gonna go, 'That's one of the greatest rock'n'roll bands in the world, ever, and well-deserved the inauguration into the Hall of Fame."

...and give the fans the original musician lineup and a duet of Hagar and Roth. I guess Gary can be a backup singer if they really want to be generous.

i'm a pretty big fan of van hagar...especially the balance album (one of the first albums i ever had). however, i'm kind of surprised that he'd be included in anyway in their induction. he always seems to get slighted by the music "elitists" when the name van halen comes up. i figured this wouldn't be any different. hears to hoping he gets a respectable amount of attention in this induction...he deserves it for putting up with ed all those years.

way to go buckeyes.

Van Hagar is not Van Halen.

Maybe not, but without Sammy, the band would have broken up without a peep in 1984, leaving a legacy of a mere six albums.

Only the original 4 should be honored:
Roth, Ed, Al, and Mikey.

No, they wouldn't have broken up in 1984 without Hagar, they would have got another singer. Roth clones were a dime a dozen in the mid to late 80s in the US.

I am not sure how this works though. I know it's consideration only after 25 years from your first album release.

So since Van hagar wasn't until 1985, technically it hasn't been 25 yrs since the release of Van Hagar. Does that matter? Are we the only ones splitting hairs?

Van Halen taking the high road.

I personally have been hoping for that option for years.. seems they haven't got it right yet..

I have always preferred him over DLR. Not that what they did with David was bad; it was definitely great stuff, but Sammy really added great talent to the vocal department and a lot of class.

Don't think of "Van Hagar" as a seperate band. Sammy will be inducted along side Eddie, Alex, Michael, and Dave. The "Van Hagar" era actually sold more records that the DLR era (or so I heard), so there's no way that Sammy is not inducted with the rest of the guys. I'm sure that Gary Cherone won't be joining them, though.

No Roth-era VH outsold Van Hagar-era. Van Hagar-era only made it to #1 on the charts with their records and sold between 3-5 million a piece.
1984 sold over 7 million and I think VHI sold over 9.

Dave, Ed, Al, Mike, Sammy, Gary, and Wolfy. Sounds like a new version of Slipknot to me.
Seriously, I hope they handle themselves like gentlemen up there and not embarass each other. That would look so stupid for one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

WRONG WRONG WRONG.......of the roth cds the first van halen and 1984 both sold over 10 million and if im not mistaken van halen 2 sold over 5.....the only hagar cd that sold over 5 was 5150.....all the other ones sold 2 or 3......so actually 1984 or vh1 almost outsold the entire hagar catalog

1984 never reached #1 because of "Thriller". It hung in at #2 for several weeks, though.

I would have said Dime if he was still alive. Vinnie Paul?

I just can't see this being civil. Edward or Dave or both of them are going to say something ridiculous. Sammy will take the high road, honoring the original band and praising the music made when he was in the band.

Maybe Michael Anthony will ask for his old job back!?

They should be inducted with Both the Dave era and Sammy era. Both Dave and Sammy years were great. Sammy w/ Van Halen had more hits and #1 albums. 1984 (Last album with Roth) only went to number 2. It should have been #1 IMO Hope Roth , Sammy Eddie etc.I hope that they can do this like gentlemen and accept their award for getting in the Hall of fame , Without any of them trying to kill each other.

Yes, I too prefer Van Hagar, as some call it! Never liked Dave and his style! Balance is just an amazing album! But I don't think Sammy should go to the hall of fame! I mean, bands become eligible 25 years after their first recording... 25 years ago Sam wasn't part of the band... so he shouldn't be there... but Mike should be there!

Never liked the band with Sammy. I guess that because I was there in the beginning. I saw VH at the Paladium in NYC touring the 1st record and that was the shit. Sorry Sam but you have nothing on Dave.
You and Ed could but those baggy pants on and Cho Cho across teh stag like assholes but back in the early days with Dave is was all good.

The title says it all, you guys can talk tuntil your blue in the face, but VanHagar or VanHalen, Eddie ruined the best band in the land, and in 1997 at the peek of becoming the best band in the world and continuing on making great rock'n roll music acompanied by great lyrics, Eddie decided like with his marriage to Valerie and Sammy that he can only be the number one and there is no ......I in team nor band, now with the Hall of fame coming up he is making more of a mockery not including one of the best bassist and background vocalist in rock'n roll by firing Michael Anthony. I loved the days of DLR, but that is in the paste VanHalen with Hager would have mad more money and #1 songs than any rock group around if Eddie would have just sucked it up in 1997 and kept the ball rolling all the way to today.
