SAMMY HAGAR Considering Recording With Ex-VAN HALEN BASSIST And RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Drummer
- Jan. 11, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: Sammy Hagar won't be on the road much this year, besides a few gigs with his group the WABORITAS and his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of VAN HALEN. But that's not to say that he doesn't have plans to make new music. Hagar has been performing recently at his Cabo Wabo Cantina in Mexico with former VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, and he told Launch the three of them might hit the studio together. "We're thinking about, when the CHILI PEPPERS tour is over, about doing a little record," he said. "Not a permanent thing, but we've been calling ourselves CHICKEN FOOT down here, you know? A power trio. And it's so much fun playing in a power trio, you know? I haven't done it in a long time, playing all the guitar, and, and Mike and I singing together. It's pretty strong, man, it's a pretty exciting band. So we're thinking about going in the studio, and maybe making a record."
The CHILI PEPPERS wrap up their North American dates March 7 in Houston, then head to Japan and Australia for shows between March 19 and April 19.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony is March 12 in New York City. This year's honorees also include PATTI SMITH, R.E.M., GRANDMASTER FLASH & THE FURIOUS FIVE, and the RONETTES.

I like Sammy ok, Mike is the shit, so I hope he keeps working! And Chad rules...even if he is as ugly as Will Ferrel.

I'm not sure why, I don't even like VH, but I'm glad this happened. For one thing, being a bass player, it was like they were saying that part doesn't matter. I also just think it was really rude of EVH. I mean he didn't get along with DLR and now they're back together. One little falling out shouldn't put Mike on the same level as DLR. Good break for him anyway, I think EVH is batshit insane and that band won't last long.

Thats because he can't sell tickets without some form of classic VH. He needed Dave in 2002. He needed Ed in 2004. The Other Half tour sold more Hot sauace and Tequilla than tickets. But he is smart :The Peppers are riding high and he can tap into their fan base to help him sell his products. I feel sorry for Dave Lauser, I quess he knows how Micheal Anthony feels now.

Eddie called Sammy. Sammy had just come off of a multi platinum LP "Standing Hampton" he was questioning even giving up his solo career for VH, but decided to use most of the lyrics he wrote for his solo career and put them on most of the VH LP's. So don't say Sammy needed VH, I think VH and Eddie needed him, come on tell me one VH hit since Sammy left the band, just one????? SAMMY ROCKS and I wish to god he was still with Van Halen, but Eddie screwed that up, that selfish bastard.
I was just down at the Cabo Wabo Cantina and what a blast Sammy has it together and he and Michael are a match in heaven vocally and friendship wise, I heard them jam with Chad and they aren't going to play party music like it was with the Wabo's, they are going to take it to where VH left off in '98 and '04 they proved it with The Other Half, sneaking in some new material, I'm going on the Wabo cruise in March and I'm having my friend record any coverage of the Hall of Fame where Sammy and Mike are going to fly to just for it, then fly back for the rest of the cruise, damn I'm so lucky I get to do this now because it may never happen again, Sammy, Michael and Chad are going to tour this year with Chicken Foot and then The Other Half so they won't be around Cabo Wabo much, plus Sammy is going to have a Birthday tour in 2008, he's 60 and so hansome and can still sing and play guitar like he was 30 !
