SMASHING PUMPKINS Confirmed For Austria's NOVA ROCK Festival
- Feb. 3, 2007
SMASHING PUMPKINS has been confirmed for the Nova Rock festival, set to take place June 15-17 on the Pannonia Fields in Burgenland, the easternmost federal state of Austria (near Nickelsdorf and the Hungarian and Slovak borders). The PUMPKINS will perform on June 15. Also scheduled to appear are SLAYER, LORDI, STONE SOUR, PAPA ROACH, PEARL JAM, DROWNING POOL, CHILDREN OF BODOM, IN EXTREMO, ISIS, MASTODON and HELMET, among many others.
Launch Radio Networks reported yesterday that it's looking more and more likely that the relaunched SMASHING PUMPKINS will not include original members James Iha on guitar and D'Arcy Wretzky on bass. PUMPKINS manager Paul Geary hinted at a different formation in comments he made to MTV.com, saying, "I've been involved with bands whose members can't stand each other, and over time they run out of dough and that's why they (reunite). But Billy's (Corgan, PUMPKINS leader) making a great record, and for the sake of a younger generation that he wants to turn on to the band's music, he is doing it with a band that will more faithfully re-create the old songs than ever before."
Geary did not say anything further about the new PUMPKINS lineup. The only confirmed original member besides Corgan is drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
Corgan often expressed irritation in the past with Iha and Wretzky's playing, and it was rumored that he recorded all of their parts himself on much of the PUMPKINS' recorded output.
Geary, who also manages GODSMACK and was formerly the drummer for '80s rockers EXTREME, added that the PUMPKINS are not being reactivated for the money. He said, "They've had some amazingly big offers — some seven-figure ones to play certain shows — and Billy has passed on several because he didn't think it was the right thing for the band."
The PUMPKINS will play their first live dates since 2000 in early June at two German festivals.
More tour dates and details on the album's title and release date are expected to be revealed shortly.

Are there any Dumplings fans who would publicly admit to liking this "band"?
They were cool in thier day, (Pre-Melancholy) but it wouldnt work in this day and age.

They were cool when?

I agree. Never cool, like mostly by kids who weren't cool. That seemed to be their niche.

They had some deacent songs.
Mybe I went a little far by calling them "Cool", but in all honesty, I didnt mind thier early stuff.
I didnt like them enough to go to one of thier concerts, or buy any merchandise, but I didnt hate them.

I used to work for Extreme, and at a summer festival once, Billy Corgan ripped Extreme apart from the stage. Just sayin'...

They're going to ruin their legacy. They already went out on a bad note. Now that human-egg thing isn't satisfied but I have no faith.

I say yes, this IS The Smashing Pumpkins. What did James Iha and D'Arcy Wretzky contribute to the music? Did they have a distinctive sound?
The public still thinks of "The Pumpkins" as the band featuring -the tall one who, back in 1995, decided to become hairless -the woman with an instrument that has 4 strings or so -the asian guy -the scarface drummer with the overdose
So, visually there's gonna be a difference, no question. But musically?
It's a completely different thing with Helmet. Although Page Hamilton writes 99% of their songs, Bogdan and especially Stanier are irreplacable.

Okay so you're definatly a turd burgaler. How can you promote "freedom of speech" with your post name, and then state that anyone who publicly admits to liking this band is a dumpling. That's only slightly contradictory don't you think? I happen to be one of those "dumpling fans" who can publicly admit to liking this band, because I see the greatness that this band had in their music. If you inverted that superior judgement of yours and pointed it inward, perhaps you would find that the real "dumpling" in this situation is yourself (and an ass-dumpling, at that.)

Worst. Singer. Ever.
Well maybe the guy from System of a Down Syndrome is worse. But Billy isn't far behind.
