AUDIOSLAVE/RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Guitarist Focusing On Solo Project - Feb. 6, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and AUDIOSLAVE guitarist Tom Morello is not certain about the future of either band, but he knows for sure that he will be spending a lot more time working as his political folk alter ago, the NIGHTWATCHMAN. Morello will issue his first solo album under that name on April 24, and said that the NIGHTWATCHMAN will always be active no matter what else he's doing. "The NIGHTWATCHMAN stuff has become a very important balancing agent for me," he said. "You know, I love the big arena rock of AUDIOSLAVE, but I need to play political music. And I've found out the best way to do that is to just do it yourself. That's a very, very fulfilling part of my musical world, and I intend to keep doing that and do it even more."

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will reunite for its first live performance in seven years on April 29 at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California.

In an interview with MTV.com that was quickly taken down from the site just hours after it was first posted, Morello said the band was reforming for the event "to deliver a knockout blow to the Bush administration."

The guitarist added that RAGE has not ruled out future activities beyond Coachella.

As for AUDIOSLAVE, Morello said that singer Chris Cornell did not want to tour in support of the band's third studio album, "Revelations", which came out last fall. He gave no indication of whether the band would record or tour again. Cornell has been recording a solo album for the past few months.

I think they're scared of Bush. Remember when they refused to let NIN use that imagery of Bush during their performance on one of their crappy awards show last year (that NIN cancelled)?

I saw them a few times back in the early 90's. Great live band. And Tom Morello's guitar playing is good and he has his own style, which is more than one can say about a lot of the other gutarists that are usaually mentioned on this site

I can't comprehend how people on this site call Morello a "hack" and "over-rated". It seems to me that no matter what you think of RATM/Audioslave, you'd have to respect his guitar playing.

Shut the fuck up. Just because you don't like his playing doesn't mean everyone else should listen to you. Who the fuck are you? To each his own. I understand you don't like his playing and I totally respect you for that but please DO NOT try and tell people that you "feel sorry for them" if they are fans. Grow up.

And as we all know, Tom is actually part of the EVIL EMPIRE machine he condems. He literally makes millions of dollars not only for himself but for all the EVIL big labels, mgt companies, merch companies etc that are employed by RATM. This I find hysterical becuase Toms schtick is that he is for the little guy yet he aint little. Again, I applaud his success but find him to be an ass because he is a hypocrite.

HMMM...once again allow me to be the voice of reason here and comment that RATM's debut blows the lid off of most anything "metal" out there at the time and "Killing In the Name Of..." remains on of the greatest metal songs of ALL TIME. I believe subsequent releases got weaker as it seems the pattern also holds for Audioslave. Now if you don't like either band...don't listen to them. ignore it and go about worshipping who YOU think is the best guitar player. Those who enjoy Morello's playing will probably follow his solo effort. It's the fans of these bands who have the right to comment on what they don't and do like about the band. the rest??? enjoy death metal, black metal, power metal, thrash metal, emo, metalcore, or math metal and voice your opinions in those realms.

FAIR ENOUGH? good...now....what the fuck is this about FREE Ozzfest???

the fact is tom morello might be a technically great guitar player but the dude does not have a clue to what makes a kick ass metal sound. he has no sense of goove or crunch or how to come up with catchy riffs and most of his solos are made up of squealy, annoying wammy bar shit. he should try listening to a little less pat metheny and a lot more tony iommi and angus young.

I love the way when someone wants to criticise another person on this site instead of a reasonable analysis to get the point across words like douchbag and hack are employed. Music has no definitive boundries (exept the range of sound humans can sense), rules or regulations. To call this guy a shit guitarist is a bit strong, fair enough he doesn't shred like a madman but he has a pretty rare style and a conviction which is absent in most guitarists which in my opinion puts him up ther with the like of Micheal Romeo, Tony Macalpine, Andy Timmons, Greg
Howe, Ron Thal , Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, etc etc.... but after all, as far as i know, it's just an opinion (unless theres a rulebook that i've somehow overlooked that if anyone knows about get back to me, i would like to read it).

Tom Morello can play pretty much any style of music at a professional level, whilst a lot of people posting here would stuggle to be competent at just one style.

I sense quite a bit of jealousy here among all you Morello haters, maybe you should all stop posting on blabbermouth and go practice some more.

Welcome back RATM.

I'm guessing your a young guy (25 to 35) and you dig a different genre of guitar oriented music. To say Morello should listen to less Pat Metheny and more Angus Young & Tony Iommi, is just a personal preference, focused on besmirching PM's music as a excepional gutarist. Furthermore in the twent -four years I've been following Metheny or PMG he has never played in a bar (Epecially a white Wine Fern Bar) and I've seem him over 22 times since 1985, in various presentations, including several trios (staright ahead jazz), which requires a prolonged attention span, to with other jazz greats such as Jack Dejohnette, Herbie Hancock, and Jim Hall. I also love Mick Ronson's performance of "Width of A Circle"- Live from Santa Monica, the epitome of heavy metal. I also enjoy John Mclaughlin, Alex lifeson (Rush), and Jimmy Page- do I need to tell you-Led Zepplin. All have their uniqueness. Have I enjoyed all of pats work-no but would pay $100 to see hm any-day.

The point of what I'm getting at is denegrating another musician, is being musically intolerant ,which I promised never to do because I heard my parents critrsize music they couldn't get into or understand where it was coming from. I never want to close mymind -even to rap.
