OZZFEST 2007: More Ticketing Information Revealed - Feb. 8, 2007
The Ozzfest 2007 Fans unofficial MySpace page has been updated with the following information regarding the ticketing system for this year's event:

Q: Will OZZY OSBOURNE play at my show?

A: Ozzy will headline ALL Ozzfest dates on the main stage.

Q: How do I get tickets?

A: Those signed up to Ozzfest.com will get the info on how to obtain their free tickets first! You will need to get a ticket just like previous Ozzfests. However, you will do so online and for FREE. You will need to go to Ozzfest.com or one of our sponsors websites to do this. Those who are signed up to Ozzfest.com will get an email with instructions and links once tickets are available. You will print out your tickets and bring them to Ozzfest or get them from one of our sponsors. Yes each venue has its own capacity level and only the amount of people allowed will gain entry. You will know you will be allowed entry because you have your ticket in advance. The show will be general admission. The seats will be first-come, first-to-sit-there-and-watch-the-show-in-that-seat basis. There will be still a second stage and it will be located in the same area of the venue as previous Ozzfest. Yes, it will still be an outdoors show. Now you are inside and you paid nothing. Merch, beer, water, food and soda price will NOT be raised more than any other show at that venue in the summer of 2007 to cover your free entry.

Q: Will there be a limit to the number of tickets I can buy?

A: Again, yes, there will be. The amount has not yet been determined, but there will be.

Q: How will I gain entrance?

A: You will print out or recieve the tickets that you have secured and you will bring those with you to the event, where you will exchange them for entrance.

Q: How will the seating be decided?

A: As in previous years, the second stage will still be general admission for everyone without seats. However, as far as main stage, it will be first-come, first-served basis for both general admission AND the seats. Of course, you do not stake claim to seats, meaning that if you stand up and leave the seats, others are entitled to sit there.

Q: Will merchandise and concession prices be raised to make up for the lack of ticket price?

A: No. The prices will remain up to the individual artists to decide. However, there will be no expected raise in prices.

Q: How will the artists make money off this?

A: They are free to book themselves at local shows on days before, after, and days of the fest. Also, they are, as always, welcome to bring and sell merchandise.

Q: How different will the bill be from date to date?

A: Some second stage acts may change. However, the main stage acts will be committed and appear throughout the tour, unless otherwise stated.

Q: Will bands autograph CDs at the FYE tent in 2007?

A: There will still be a tent where the bands sell and do their CD signings. It may be FYE or could another store who handles it, but either way you will be able to purchase the bands' performing CDs and have them sign those.

A reliabe source tells me that Alice in Chains, Black Label Society and Hell Yeah are done deals to be on the fest with Killswitch Engage, Arch Enemy, Trivium, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Devildriver and others in talks to play. Of course, Ozzy will headline the mainstage on all dates with his solo band.

I'm sure Alice In Chains is NOT doing this. This model makes sense for bands that just want exposure, even at the cost of getting paid. Most of the bands are gonna be hoping to make money on CD sales. AIC has no CD to promote, and can easily do another tour and make $$ too.

I might be wrong, but my interpretation of this setup is:

Sharon Osborne - Still making loot

Bands - Getting fucked

I think I'll stay away from this. If there are any bands on the tour I want to see I'll catch them on an off date when they're actually getting paid.

The amphetheaters are usually 15000 GA tix for the lawn and 5000 reserved seats, whats gonna happen when the 15000 people in lawn decide they want sit inside seat, Fight and Riots, it won't work if the seats arn't reserved, there will be no way to control the flow of people into the reserved sections

If you will notice, Sharon encourages the bands to play other shows on off dates and even the same day as the fest. Bands will make money. Everyone and their retarded aunts first cousins uncle will be there with their mayonaise sandwiches and beer... free ozzfest... you can't get that type of exposure. Every show will be a packed house sellout.

And AiC will play... just wait for the announcement in a few weeks.

The bands are going to suck, first of all. The list that someone posted a couple spots above looks mysteriously like a list of bands that have already stunk up the Ozzfest stage before, with AiC thrown in. And it's probably bogus anyway-- last year was almost strictly mallcore and I see no reason why it wouldn't be again this year. What would you expect when you're trying to get bands who would be willing to play FOR FREE?? They think bands will be able to make up the profits on off-night shows, but that's ridiculous because no one would want to pay to see these bands when they can just see them for free the next night anyway. Any idiot can see this.

Second of all, this tour is going to be over in about 3 dates, after the mass riots ensue. First, you know those guys at Ozzfest who just want to get drunk and start trouble? Well, now there will be more of them. Lots more. Hell, why not, with free ticket prices? You're going to see violence, you're going to see rapes, you're going to see lots of trouble going on at this thing. Second, the thing about seats not being reserved? This is just ASKING for trouble. There is exactly a 0% chance that this rule alone doesn't cause mass chaos at each and every date. Their security would have to be better than the president's to sustain that type of mayhem.

Finally, I like how the website avoided the "concessions" question. Did you notice that? "Q: Will merchandise and concession prices be raised to make up for the lack of ticket price?" and the answer was JUST about merchandise, AND they left the door open by saying there would be no "expected" raise in prices. You know what that means: water will be $12 a bottle and food will be $20 for a chicken nugget and stale fries. Prepare to be dehydrated and starving unless you're willing to pony up the dough.

Sorry, but just because the ticket price is free does not mean I'm willing to be in what is the equivalent of a desert warzone for 14 hours listening to shitty bands and waiting for the inevitable hour when police are called in with tear gas to stop the riots. Maybe someday Sharon will learn...

COMMENT | Techmology.

So what's to keep people from "photcopying" or duplicating these tickets in the scenario where tickets are limited or they have already accessed their allotted amount? You can't possibly tell me that the venues and gate staff that collect the tickets at the time of entry have, and will be using, the technology necessary to prevent this from happening. Get those printer cartridges ready, kids!

Also, this whole idea kinda reminds me of the episode of Seinfeld when Newman and Kramer loaded up the truck to bring recyclable bottles to Michigan to get 5 extra cents. Sure, sounds great on paper, but even with corporate sponsors helping to fund this, hasn't anyone involved realized that it still costs money to: 1. rent the venue 2. pay the crew (or is everyone volunteering out of the goodness of Sharon's heart this year?) 3. rent staging, lighting, transportation, etc. And another thing, since it's general admission, do they have any idea how much security will be needed to keep 50,000 kids and drunken idiots from killing each other? On second thought, who cares? Maybe this all part of the government's plan to weed out the dregs of society.

Good luck to the bands trying to book dates on "off nights" to make money. How any places does Sharon think there are to play in the middle of fucking nowehere? At most, maybe 4 bands (4 of the more popular bands, whoever they turn out to be) will be the only ones able to get promoters to book them (who would you rather book? Lamb of God or Teardrops at the Funeral for the Withered Falling Leaves?) Logistically, this makes no sense to me as a musician why ANY band would agree to play Ozzfest this year. Any band that agrees to play Ozzfest for free is even more stupider than the bands that previously paid $75,000 to play at 9:00am. Well, maybe not THAT stupid. I hope the labels these bands are on have a great tour support package, 'cuz last time I checked gas ain't free. And neither is food.

This isn't going to fly very well. Yea maybe at first a few hundred will sit down and relax. However, when the main two bands are ready to go on every drunk a whole is going to charge forward. Hell even with assigned seats you still get idiots getting in there and causing hell. Unless it's at a stadium where it's all GA, they need to assign seats. I can't trust most of humanity to sit the right way on a public toilet seat leat alone 15,000 people be curteous about seating at a concert. That's my stance on the issue.

I may sound crazy, but it is possible to see both shows. There's no rule on seeing that band only once per year....you can, get this...support them BOTH TIMES!

On that MySpace page is you scroll down there is a list of "Heavily Rumored bands to be on Ozzfest 2007"

They have METALLICA listed. I highly doubt they would do it. BUT, They certainly don't need the money and they are trying to figure out ways to get alot of the Metal fans back. So, Who knows. I would be surprised but Not shocked if they do it.

Two things are for sure!!

1 - OZZY and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY will be on the main stage. Which leaves about three slots open.

2 - DOWN and HELL YEAH will not both be on the tour. It'll be one or the other. No Way, Vinnie Paul decides to do a tour that Phil Anselmo will be a part of.

I don't see the seating thing working i bet many venues won't allow that to happen. I would imaging it will end up being 1st come will get tickets for seat at most venue. She can say what that all seats are ga but I am pretty sure that that will change. Those who want seat will have to get there very early in the morning the day of the show.

If the ga policy does stand then it will result in utter chaos If they keep this policy then I hope my date for the show is way later in the tour so they can realize there fuck up.

What major groups are going to agree to playing the main stage for the entire tour? I think it would be great if they allowed certain artists to play selected gigs. This way the main stage won't be filled with mediocre groups for the entire tour, but have flexibility in case groups like Metallica decide to jump in for a show or two.

1. It's true that SOME bands will sign up for this event, we're not denying that. But do you honestly think a band like Judas Priest or Iron Maiden would ever want to be on a bill where they're not even getting paid? Any band worth hearing is going to be able to book their own summer tour where they actually make a large profit. You say that some bands do truly tour for the sake of the music, and that's true, but believe it or not, you can love the music AND make money off of it, and there's no reason for most bands not to do both. I reckon any band really worth hearing will not be on this bill, besides Ozzy and his lapdog Zakk Wylde with BLS.

2. I'm surprised they've found ANY corporate interest in this idea, for the reasons mentioned above. Do you think McDonald's is going to want to be associated with the violent deaths of dozens of people that will occur on this tour? Or the riots that are sure to ensue and the type of people this thing is attracting? I wouldn't want my company touching this thing with a 10-foot pole, and it's no wonder FYE might not be back as a sponsor.

And even if there is corporate sponsorship, this will still lead to higher prices. If, say, McDonald's sponsors it, and they serve only McDonald's food there and don't allow any outside food or drink, well you'll still be paying $11 for a Big Mac because Micky D's has got to recoup its investment somehow. And merch prices will skyrocket because these crappy bands aren't making a cent off the tour itself and have got to pay the bills. Trust me, any way you slice it, this is economically bad for the consumer.

3. Finally, you say "there are always fights and brawls and this year will be no different." This is quite the fallacy. It's true that there are fights and brawls every year, but this is indicative of the fact that there are SO MANY people in this crowd that are drunken, pugnacious assholes, that a spillover of them is actually willing to pay $80 to get drunk and fight people. Now, you're making the ticket prices $0, which means ALL of those assholes are going to be able to get in with no personal detriment to themselves. You're opening the floodgates and allowing for all the fights and brawls you usually see PLUS the thousands of assholes who will now be able to waltz in for free PLUS the brawls ensuing because of the boneheaded seat policy. Whoever compared this to the Who fiasco was absolutely right, and this will just be a nightmarish tour, I can guarantee it.

The crowd will be worse this year too, now that it's free not only are the stupid ass goths and skinheads will be there, now you'll have all types of people. Even though everybody hates it I look forward going to Ozzfest every year, even if there is only 5 bands I like on the bill, at the end of the day it's a fun day out. Unfortunatly, this "FREE" concept is prob going to be the death of this festival. And I thought she hit a new low when she re-recorded some of Ozzy's albums so his ex-bandmates can't get royalties anymore.

What if they gave an Ozzfest and nobody came--not the audience, the bands! Who in their right minds would allow themselves to be ripped off this way, especially if Sharon is STILL demanding peformance fees? And to those bands can afford to play for nothing a couple of times a week may I suggest that you do so for charity? Between the upcoming U.S. elections, the rising poverty rate, the Gulf War veterans, and the Gulf Coast weather victims, there are plenty of worthy causes to choose from!
