CHRIS CORNELL Says He Wasn't Getting Along With AUDIOSLAVE - Feb. 20, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: Former AUDIOSLAVE frontman Chris Cornell told RollingStone.com on Friday (February 16) that he wasn't getting along particularly well with the other members of the band during the latter stages of their time together, saying, "Getting along as people is one thing. Getting along as a group of people that can work together in a band situation...We weren't particularly getting along well, no. Bands work in a way where everyone at some point has to have a similar idea of how you do things...Three albums into it, it started to seem like our interests weren't as conjoined anymore."

Cornell admitted that he hadn't spoken to the rest of the band in a few months, and that they heard about his departure from the group on Thursday (February 15), the same day he announced it publicly.

The singer said in a statement that "irresolvable personality conflicts as well as musical differences" led him to leave AUDIOSLAVE after three studio albums, although his departure had been rumored since last summer.

Cornell will release his second solo album, titled "Carry On", on May 1.

The other members of AUDIOSLAVE — guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk — recently announced that their previous band, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE, will reunite to perform at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in April.

Three albums into it, it started to seem like our interests weren't as conjoined anymore. = Tom tired to get me (Cornell) to write more political minded crap.

I enjoyed Audioslave, I enjoyed Soundgarden, I enjoy Chris' solo stuff. Sue me.

Audioslave was doomed from the start. I'm honestly surprised that they made it through three albums. They were on the verge of breaking up before the first album was even released, then they magically "worked things out".

I love Badmotorfinger-era Soundgarden, and I love everything that RATM has ever done, but I personally never cared much for Audioslave. Hopefully things will be better for everyone involved now that they've parted ways.

When Audioslave was first announecd, I thought it would be killer. I imagined Soundgarden's singer with RATM instrumentation. It NEVER happened! All the stupid ballads, cheesy radio songs, etc. Lame.

Give me early Soundgarden Cornell vocals with heavy groove riffing from Morello, and it would have been awesome. It's like they put two brilliant parts together, then only used the worst each had to offer.

Please go back to Soundgarden, Chris. Please. Do another Loud Love or Superunknown.

is/was Cornell's best work. No it isn't heavy metal, not even close, but it is a great album. Hope the new solo album is as good.
Loved Soundgarden but I'm not sure why someone above said they were radio friendly. They had a couple of radio friendly tunes but as far as I was concerned they were the heavy metal arm of the grunge movement.
Audioslave was fresh on the first album but became repetitive and corporate by the second album.
I know a lot of people didn't care for either Soundgarden or Audioslave but Chris Cornell can sing. He can take the vocals anywhere they need to go and if you can't admit that then you haven't been listening.

Not the first time that Chris has done something like this and probably isn't the last either. Good riddance. If RATM is going to do something, it better be good. IMO, they did all they could do the first time around and if there was any left, they wasted it on AS.

anyone who has scrolled this far down has just wasted a good bit of time... but I might as well say this: People who liked Soungarden and/or RATM weren't/aren't really supposed to like Audioslave because it was combo of the two. Its kind of like Demons And Wizards - one may like Iced Earth, one may like Blind Guardian, but neither may like Demons and Wizards even though some people love that combination.

In short, Audioslave was meant to be something new for a different audience, though some fans of Soundgarden/RATM may have like it as well.

So quick the complaints about the Audioslave, which just wastes your time, and go listen to to Soundgarden, RATM, or whatever you like. Just quit wasting my time, your time, and other people's time with your little complaints which aren't actually comments.

Personally, I don't care that Audioslave split. They had a few good songs in my opinion, and I understand why people either love Audioslave or hate them. I just think it sucks that RATM is coming back to "deliver the knock-out blow to the Bush administration." That just strikes me as a bit lame, but to each his own.

AIC and Chris Cornell did a song back in the day. I forget what it's called, but it was a great song. Title anybody?
