VAN HALEN's 'Best Of' Collection Indefinitely Postponed - Feb. 22, 2007
Rhino Records has indefinitely postponed the release of VAN HALEN's "Best Of (1978-1984)", the first single-disc compilation exclusively spotlighting 1978-1984, the group's original David Lee Roth era. The album, which was originally set to coincide with VAN HALEN's March 2007 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was supposed to contain over an hour of remastered classics from the albums "Van Halen", "Van Halen II", "Women And Children First", "Fair Warning", "Diver Down", and "1984".

The VAN HALEN reunion tour, which would have teamed the band with original frontman David Lee Roth for the first time in 22 years, was also postponed "indefinitely," according to Pollstar.com. Sources confirmed the news on Tuesday (February 20) after a number of radio stations began reporting rumors that the trek was in trouble over contractual issues. One source said that despite an announcement earlier this month by VAN HALEN's management that the tour was officially happening, a deal was reportedly never finalized between the band, Roth and the tour's promoter, Live Nation.

No dates for the tour had ever been revealed, but there were rumors that it would begin in Las Vegas in late April.

VAN HALEN will still be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12 in New York City.

Alright, which lawyer forgot to remove the Brown M&M's from the Punchbowl????? Dave got all wired up from the caffeine and told Eddie he was looking like an old Bitch. Eddie kicked Dave in the nuts and Dave just happened to forget to wear his cup which he WAS warned to wear one in 1996. Dave shouted out "Um bula zebula seebula boobala umbula zebula seebula bop" Dave grabs Eddies new Frankenstein guitar he had Fender custom make and shoves it up Eddie's ass. Eddie farts Eruption and the guitar flies out his ass and knocks Dave the phuk out. The cops are called and arrest both of them. When searched, they find a dimebag of weed on Dave. Dave loses his EMT license and is told he can never work for an Ambulance service again. Eddie's Pornstar girlfriend says it was just a CONTRACTURAL PROBLEM. She then screws Dave and the tour might now happen...........AGAIN. That's what really happened.

Remember back to the the Grammys a few years ago...when Dave came out with Eddie, Alex and Michael. it was supposed to be the start of the "reunion." but then Dave acted like a dick at the post-event press conference, and Eddie and Alex said that Dave never changed and they would never work with him ever again. Of course, money talks and bullshit walks. It will be very interesting to see how all of these guys handle themselves next month at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Dave, Sammy, Eddie, Alex, and Michael Anthony, all there together. They better have someone videotaping the backstage festivities. I hope these guys pull it together and handle themselves professionally, but I doubt that Dave or a drunk Eddie can pull that off. Can't wait...

THIS JUST SAYS THAT POLLSTAR HASN'T RECEIVED ANY DATES.
WHICH MEANS THE TOUR HASN'T BEEN SIGNED. THE $-DEALS WITH THE TOUR PROMOTERS HAVEN'T BEEN SIGNED.
BUT I'LL TELL YOU WHAT HAS BEEN SIGNED.
THE CONTRACTS BETWEEN DAVE'S LAWYERS (DARTH VADAR AND SONS) AND THE VAN HALEN CAMP.
AS DAVE SAID IN HIS AUTOBIOGRAPGHY AND MANY TIMES IN INTERVIEWS, NO WAY WAS HE GOING BACK UP THERE WITHOUT LAWYERS AND IRONCLAD CONTRACTS SIGNED.
AND NO WAY THE VAN HALEN CAMP WOULD GIVE THAT PHOTO TO ROLLING STONE WITHOUT EVERYTHING BEING ON.
SO GUESS WHAT VAN HAGAR LOVERS... (WUSSY BALLAD LOVERS)
IT IS STILL ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

STEP 1: CONTRACTS BETWEEN DAVE AND VAN HALEN ARE SIGNED AND IRONCLAD. DONE.
STEP 2: CONTRACTS BETWEEN TOUR PROMOTERS AND VAN HALEN STILL BEING WORKED OUT.
PROMOTERS WANT THE ORIGINAL LINE UP.
OFFERING LESS $ FOR THIS 3/4TH REUNION.

VAN HALEN ARE FIGHTING FOR MORE $.

THIS IS BIG BUSINESS KIDDIES.
NOT A JAM BAND MEETING AT THE LOCAL DIVE FOR A SATURDAY NIGHT.

AND THIS IS STILL ON AND HAPPENING!!!

Get your VH history straight.
It was the 1996 MTV Awards. Not the Grammys.
And it wasn't that they fought at the awards show.
It was that durning the months that Dave was back in the VH camp and recording, VH was still auditioning other singers.
Dave got wind of this.
The whole atmosphere was bad, uncommittal, and duplicitious.
Read about it in Dave's book or on Wilkipedia.
Eddie has hired Mitch Malloy weeks or months prior to the MTV awards show.
Dave didn't want to do the awards show unless they were definitely a band again and announcing a tour.
After the awards show, Dave released a media statement where he apologized to the media and the fans, stating that he was an unwitting participant in a publicity stunt perpetrated by the Van Halens and Ray Daniels (their manager) in order to sell more copies of the Greatest Hits album.
The arguing at the MTV Awards did not cause the fallout, it was at the tail end of Eddie's bullshit and very understandable on Dave's part.

for it to be a real reunion, plus they need his vocal harmonies, as I'm sure Roth's voice is shot. But I almost hope this doesn't happen. The '1984' tour was the first concert I went to, and it was the most magical experience of my life at that point, and to see these old wasted has-beens sleepwalk through a 'reunion' to make bucketloads of cash is just sad!

Yeah, the promoters are no fools.
Offering huge $ to promote an original 4 reunion. (Just imagin the posters).
Offering 1/10 of that for the 3/4th reunion.
I would.
2004 tour was rough.
Van Halen III tour had 1/2 empty arenas.

my mistake..it was the MTV awards, not the Grammys. But they did have an altercation directly following the awards show. the press was asking the band questions about a tour; Eddie said, there is no talk of a tour until I've had my hip surgery. Dave got pissed and said to Ed, this (night) is about me, not your f*ing hip. then Alex said to Dave, the next time you do something like that, you'd better be wearing a cup. End of reunion (at least the first try).

the 2004 tour was "rough" because Eddie was plastered every night. he could pull that off when he was in his 20s; he can't pull that off in his 40s. they didn't play arenas on the VHIII tour; they played 3-5,000 seat theaters. and even those were half full.

I agree with most everyone here: Michael Anthony is absolutely necessary for that tour to work on any level.

Yea, but what a lot don't know is that the MTV show argument was at the end of months of Eddie's bullshit.
It wasn't all hunky-dory then 1 argument blows up something that would have made millions.
Dave didn't want to dupe the fans. Didn't want to record the new songs, release a greatest hits album, give an award on MTV as a band unless they were a fully-functioning unit and going to give the fans the reunion tour.
Eddie kept stringing Dave along, meanwhile auditioning other singers and offering the job to Mitch Malloy. All the while making the fans think they had reunited w/ Dave in order to sell millions of copies of the Greatest Hits album that was coming out at the same time as the MTV award show.
That is why Eddie is a fool and the music industry sees that whole '96 bullshit as one of the worst publicity stunts and fan-alienation moves in rock history.
It's Eddie's bullshit and disrespect for the fans, not oh why did Dave lose his temper in '96, that is the main point.
Keep it all in context. Most don't know the whole context. Read Dave's book and go to Wikilpedia and type in Van Halen or David Lee Roth. Good summations there. Also at allmusic.com.

And remember Sammy after that tour he loved Eddie, but, he would never tour with or have anything to do with that grumpy fff'n drunk again.
Michael and Sammy will show up to the Hall of Fame maybe DLR will show up too.

What a joke. You know it's sad, yeh you DLR lovers really wanted to see Dave front the band again, but come on it didn't happen then in '85, and it isn't going to happen now.
It's just a shame that when the band was on top of the world in '95 '96 '97 and '98 Eddie didn't keep it going, they lost 6 years of great lyrics and music with Sammy Hagar, he tried with Sammy again in '04 '05, but blew it again with a chance to keep the fire alive for at least some sort of Van Halen. It's way to messed up and now Michael Anthony is out. I think the only hope is to have any Van Halen is with; The Other Half / Chicken Foot which are Sammy Hagar (lead vocals/lead guitar) Michael Anthony (backing vocals/bass) Chad Smith (drums)
The one thing that bettered Sammy from DLR in Van Halen is that besides great vocals, he played great guitar (did most of the lead guitar work on 5150 and 0U812 while Eddie worked the piano/synth) VH is nothing but a memory especially the DLR VH.
