BLACK SABBATH: New Song 'The Devil Cried' Available For Streaming - Feb. 26, 2007
According to Black-Sabbath.com, the new BLACK SABBATH track "The Devil Cried" is available for streaming via the Rhino Records web site. Check it out in the following formats:

Windows Media (100k)
Windows Media (56k)
Real Player
Quicktime

"The Devil Cried" will be released in digital form to the public via all digital retailers on Tuesday, March 13. The song was written and produced by guitarist Tony Iommi and singer Ronnie James Dio and was recorded with bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Vinny Appice in November 2006 in the U.K. The cut was engineered and mixed by Mike Exeter, who worked on Iommi's "Fused" and "The 1996 DEP Sessions".

"The Devil Cried" is the first single off the group's forthcoming "best-of" collection, "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years". The first comprehensive introduction to the band's legacy features a dozen classic studio recordings, plus one live track — "Children Of The Sea" from 1982's "Live Evil". The collection also contains the three brand-new tracks — the aforementioned "The Devil Cried", plus "Shadow Of The Wind", and "Ear In The Wall". The disc will be available April 3 at all physical retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested list price of $18.98. The album will also be available at all digital retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $11.99. Check out the cover artwork at this location.

Arranged chronologically, the compilation spotlights singer Ronnie James Dio's time with BLACK SABBATH and draws heavily from the lineup's 1980 debut and 1981 follow-up, "Heaven and Hell" and "Mob Rules" respectively. Recognized as back-to-back metal classics, the albums feature such signature songs as the title tracks, "Neon Knights", "Die Young", "Turn Up The Night" and "Voodoo". "The Dio Years" also features "After All (The Dead)", "TV Crimes" and "I" from the singer's brief reunion with SABBATH for the "Dehumanizer" album and tour.

"Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" track listing:

01. Neon Knights
02. Lady Evil
03. Heaven And Hell
04. Die Young
05. Lonely Is The Word

Well I'm not gonna listen to it yet, I wanna try to wait until the cd comes out for that. I'm a fan of both the Ozzy and Dio era's and I have a feeling the next year or two is gonna be amazing for others who are too. I can't wait to see Heaven And Hell in Toronto, Megadeth is always great and although I don't know too much about Down I'm a huge Pantera/Anselmo fan so I'm sure it will be worth going early for, hey even if I'm not as into Down (I don't not like them just haven't heard enough yet) as Pantera Phil's on stage rants are always worth the price of admission lol

I'm even more looking forward to the new Black Sabbath album with Ozzy when or if it actually happens. Ozzy seems to be really happy with his new album saying he would be happy if Sabbath could still do another album like it, to me that say's he's confident enough in himself to move forward with Sabbath finally

What a bad ass song and Dio sounds great! Listen with some good headphones folks, makes all the difference in the world. He does sound a little rawer at times, especially toward the end, but it still sounds fantastic. The guitar work is first rate as always with Iommi. End solo is nice. His time reminds of Sabotage era stuff, a little tighter but close. First line is a bit corney but so what -- all death metal is corny, in fact most metal is at times! Sounds a lot like the Dehumanzier era stuff overall, which is highly under rated and excellent.

Very true. I, myself, am a big fan of phil anselmo (pantera would have never made it where they did without him), and, though it is probably considered blasphemy.... i would have to say i prefer Down to Pantera.

That being said...... this song was pretty good, especially considering the ages of these guys and how long it has been since they played together.

And listening to this again, I can't believe someone said the guitar sounds thin, hardly. Kids today don't know guitar tone -- sorry, Iommi doesn't play an Ibanez RG through a Crate solid state half stack. That's all SG and Laney.

They did two studio albums with this lineup and one live album. Make that three studio and one live if its just Dio, Geezer and Tony. Vinnie did not play on Heaven and Hell. It is also being sold as a Sabbath record -- Black Sabbath the Dio Years and this and two other new songs are on it. The touring band is Heaven and Hell. Even Dio has stated that everybody will call it Black Sabbath.

This lineup never did 3 records plus a live album, Bill Ward played on Heaven And Hell not Vinnie. And like I said I could never consider it Sabbath anyway. The original Black Sabbath was togeather for over a decade, onc Ozzy left the sound of the band and in my opinion name of the band should have changed. Axl Rose is not guns N Roses, the Misfits were not The Misfits without Danzig, Zeppelin wouldn't be Zeppelin without John but Black Sabbath is still Black Sabbath without Ozzy Osbourne or Bill Ward ? the original singer and drummer for over 10 years ? especially when that version is at the time still together and planning another album ? please somebody tell me why this opinion is not selective

I love Sabbath with Ozzy and feel the Dio era was amazing too (but still not Sabbath) Dio is a better technical singer then Ozzy but I prefer Ozzy's more raw vocals in Sabbath, they fit the sound and mood of the lyrics alot better. If it was all about who the best technical singer was then shouldn't Celine Dion be fronting Sabbath ? and that is in no way a shot against Ronnie because I love his voice but it's just not what Sabbath is. Heaven And Hell / fuck yeah, good choice to change the name

Why would they bother putting the live version of Children of the Sea on this compilation (especially since it is the only live song included)? If they wanted a live example of Dio era SABBATH included on the record, wouldn't it make more sense, historically and commercially, to include the live version of Die Young from the Mob Rules 12," seeing as how Die Young does not appear on the Live Evil record?

He's the one who's been keeping it alive for the last 37 years or so. And his stuff without Ozzy or Dio is still as good as any of previous Sabbath albums if you ask me.

Now go out and get DOWN's NOLA record and bask in the true greatness of Philip Anselmo. It might be his finest moment. It is true gloomy heaviness in the classic SABBATH sense. And while you are at it, check out SUPERJOINT RITUAL. If you are going to call yourself a fan of The King, then at least familiarize yourself with his commercially available output.

Viceroy, good point. Any why include a live version of Children of the Sea when the studio version of the song sounds so much better with its overdubs and production?

I would rather a live version of Turn up the Night, Computer God, or even an Ozzy era song like Symptom of the UNiverse or Sabbath bloody sabbath.

This whole HEAVEN AND HELL tour, the BLACK SABBATH the DIO Years album, is about the music of BLACK SABBATH featuring Ronnie James Dio. If you want to hear Dio singing Ozzy era BLACK SABBATH, the put on Live Evil or get a copy of the Black and Blue Tour on video or DVD and watch that.

It's a pretty simple concept to grasp: THEY WILL ONLY BE PLAYING SONGS THAT DIO RECORDED WITH BLACK SABBATH. No Ozzy era. No DIO solo material. No Dio era RAINBOW. JUST BLACK SABBATH SONGS THAT WERE ORIGINALLY SUNG BY RONNIE JAMES DIO.

And my point about putting the live version of Die Young on this compilation was that it isn't available anywhere but on the Mob Rules 12" which was an import in the US.

Before I comment on the song, I must say that I am a huge Black Sabbath fan with ozzy or with Ronnie..and also I love and own all Dio albums..that said..here I go...

Well, I listened to the song 6 times to analize it before commenting on it.

The Good-- Good Doomy Riffs by Iommi, Dio still have a powerful voice, Good solos by Iommi and Vinny Appice's drumming is solid.

The Bad-- Dio's Melodies are not that original or good at all and I miss hearing Dio hitting high notes.

The Ugly-- Lyrics are horrible, Ronnie needs to let Geezer write them if they decide to do a new album, this song lyrics are too cheesy, corny and dumb for my taste..Dio has done and can do better. And lastly....The Production!!!!!!... it is below average...where is the BASS???? ..comon now its Geezer and we need to hear him.

Overall it is a Good Song, not great...out of 10 I give it 7.

Geezer played with Bell on GZR album and Iommi had lots of cutting edge guests on his solo albums etc...
I'm sure Iommi is familiar with Fear Factory more than you think he is.
I think it's natural to draw inspiration from each other. No biggie.

After 3 listens to the new song (on small speakers), the song is only average - it is down to the lowish standard of Dehumanizer rather than the high standard of Heaven and Hell.

Come on, this song ain't a patch on Neon Knights or Die Young.

And not bad vocals either considering a guy old enough for retirement!! This proves how good songwriting can immensely improve the impression of vocal performances.

I totally agree with you, Iommi is Sabbath IMO.

To the person who said that they wished Geezer could have written the lyrics, I just wish Dio and Geezer could co-write the lyrics. To the best of my knowledge, they've never done that in Sabbath before.

Anyway, pretty good song. Wouldn't sound out of place on Dehumanizer. Dopey lyrics, but they'll do. It definitely sounds like Sabbath, and Iommi still sounds amazing. Fantastic solo, too - it's definitely classic Iommi.

Sounds like Master Of The Moon(DIO '04 Album), but with not as much elegance if I may say so. And no where near the greatness of Dehumanizer.

I'll give it a 7.5, with time could be an 8. It's doomy, heavy, and even has a nice grove. But the hook is some what lacking, not explosive enough. As usual Dio sounds outstanding and Iommi has a killer solo. Shadow Of The Wind, is the one I want to hear the most.

Does sound like Dehumanizer era Sabbath. Agreed, RJD's lyrics are so out of date (and I've been around since Elf!!!) but it does have the "Master" churning out once again as only he can. I like the song, does have a kinda "Zero The Hero" groove. Also sounds like it coulda came from Dio's "Strange Highways". All in all, if you can check out the show, do so. The end is near...

At long last, The guitar playing does sound like Sabotage era stuff, which is no bad thing. I've listened to this song about 3 times now and it keeps sounding better. Definately want a new album, because you know its gonna be better than Ozzy's new stuff.

although I can do without the lyrics on this one; too much devil crap in music these days as it is, but it's a good tune.

I've never posted on Blabbermouth before and to be fair I don't think I will in the future. But, the underlying melody in the chorus is the same as Pisschrist by Fear Factory from Demanufacture. Please feel free to listen to it.

But then again could you expect any less from the MASTER HIMSELF?

IOMMI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope Ronnie and Toni decide to record a full length album with the reunited llineup. Its about time Sabbath record a new record. Ozzy is out of it $haron will never let him do anything creative ever again. Sharon can eat her heart out while this Heaven & Hell tour tears up the world, and I hope her flop ozzfest falls flat on its face!!!!

Sharon and Ozzy can shove there ignorance up their asses!! She's a curse and Ozzy is a joke. They need to step aside and let real musicians do their thing.
