DEF LEPPARD To Tour North America With FOREIGNER, STYX - Mar. 2, 2007
DEF LEPPARD's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"So, if DEF LEPPARD is not hitting the road with KISS this year (as previously rumored), then who will they go out with? Although there is no official word that it will be the case for ALL dates on the 2007 tour, we can spill that the band is currently in the process of booking shows in the U.S. and Canada with rock veterans FOREIGNER and STYX. That's all we can tell for the time being, but stay tuned: more details and show dates will be announced on DefLeppard.com as soon as they are confirmed!"

DEF LEPPARD was scheduled to begin recording its next studio album in January at frontman Joe Elliott's house in Dublin. Basic ideas were hashed out on the road during the band's extensive tour in support of last year's covers album "Yeah!", a first for DEF LEPPARD.

"We've got about five or six songs on the go, and there'll be 11 or 12 on the final version," guitarist Phil Collen told Billboard.com in December. "We're trying to get it out for next summer, which for us would be amazing. But we've never been this far along. We come off tour, wait six months, then we start writing. We've already got that sorted out.

Collen said the songs thus far have "absolutely" been influenced by the process of making "Yeah!", which featured DEF LEPPARD's spin on songs popularized by THIN LIZZY, THE FACES and MOTT THE HOOPLE. "We did that so quick," he said. "It was raw, and it didn't demand we sit around for months or years. That really inspired us."

and that whole thing about steve clark being the cornerstone of their success is a bunch of crap. grant it steve played a role and made his contribution, but joe elliot is the real engine behind this band. it's because of his drive and vision as well as lange's guidance that they made it as far as they did.

and personally, i prefer def leppard over black sabbath

Who cares about this band. They were a great band at one time but now are nothing but a joke. Much like Metallica they haven't done anything worth a shit since 1988. They should have canned Rick Allen when he lost his arm. You can't have a real Hard Rock band with a one armed drummer. I am surprised they have become a touring monster again. Nobody buys Def Leppard cd's anymore but they have made a huge comeback on the road. And I hope you are saying you like early Def Leppard better than Black Sabbath because if you like later Leppard better than Sabbath than you better get your tone deaf ass to the doctor and get your hearing checked.

you have an old skool mentality when it comes to music. its not that they write bad songs, its just that you have a fixed idea of what music should be, which is 'metal'

your reasons for disliking later leppard stuff has nothing to do with the quality of music. it simply has to do with you longing for everything to sound like saxon (no disrespect because i love their music) which is obviously not going to happen, but...dont cry

I'm serious!

I bought the Journey/Def Leppard ticket because I wanted to see Def Leppard!

Journey opened that night at the Hollywood bowl and were louder and had more energy then Leppard.

I likes me so Leppard too but on that night at the bowl I learned some new respect for Journey!

But crap is crap. other than a few decent songs they have done nothing but crap since Hysteria. Slang anyone. But who cares about Def Leppard anyway. The new Saxon cd is coming out soon bitches. did anybody see vh1 rock honers ? how about jimmy kimmel ? anybody that defends joe elliot needs to go to the ear doctor because you are truelly tone deaf. i cant believe anybody would spend their money on these versions of these bands. foreigner and styx get clone singers and play to a bunch of drunk red necks that dont know the differance. just like kiss.

...Uh,... no, not really.

Def Leppard went lame after Pete Willis left, and they never made anything worth hearing after Steve Clark died. And they never did anything that could touch Sabbath in terms of talent, inventiveness, or influence.

Steve clark, great guitarist, well respected, but credit where its due, def leppard dont suck because they have a 1 arm drummer, have u guys listern to the electronic drum kits on pyromania high and dry? well that was before he lost his arms you idiots!

inventivesness??? HAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!

ive heard baby song cds with more inventiveness

black sabbath have hardly been inventive, theyve been doing the same kind of stuff since they first began.

but there's nothing wrong with that necessarily. So does ac/dc and motorhead and other greats

is there a rule in the music opinion handbook that says i have to like black sabbath more than spiral architect because they were influenced by sabbath?

i still prefer spiral architect, and dont get me wrong, i didnt say i dislike sabbath. i simply prefer listening to other bands. actually, i think dio sabbath is awesome. i didnt go into detail.

and UFO and Rory Gallagher are 'indeed' far better than sabbath

and so are def leppard

sorry for the jumbled writing

im referring at the bottom to my sabbath/ufo/rory/def leppard comparison

i look at music differently from the posters on this site

and i wasnt generalizing about all metalheads, only the ones at this site. they are EXTREMELY political about music here and focus on style. they want everything to be metal and hard rock. i have followed their opinions for a long time since i started posting here way back.

most of the arguments for hating def leppard is that they became more pop

well, hello, so were the beatles and a lot of other bands, even the who. they were the pop music of their era.

for some reason, they love to make this poor band the target of their bitterness

anyway, its subjective. i was just having some fun. they can trash def leppard all they want

but Bringing On The Hearbreak is still going to get more play in my cd deck than any sabbath song

No there's no rule saying that you can't like a band, more than their influences, I just thought it was a little strange its like liking Cathedral more than Sabbath. Admittedly, some people on this site are very politicalised about their opinions but they can listen to the same Death Metal every day. Also if it helps I prefer Def Leppards pop output e.g. Hysteria more than the early nwobhm stuff, although I don't think Def Leppard ever were really a metal band.

Notice, however, that the Beatles and the Who both became LESS pop over time, and it was the later, "harder" and more experimental albums that actually cemented their legacies that live on today.

A final thought: although your regard for "Let's Get Rocked" would lead me to believe that you are either deaf or insane, I also would put UFO and Rory Gallagher in the very highest echelon of music. So I guess we have more in common than not.

but honestly, i think anyone who thinks Let's get rocked is crap is the one who is really deaf and insane

that is a damn fun and playful song. its got a great sound, its got some great hooks, some funny lyrics, its exciting, it has a nice fusion of rock n roll and pop, not to mention def leppards trade marks vocals. what more can you ask for. that is a great song as far as im concerned. im wondering about you for tellling me differently. maybe you need to open up

def leppard to this day remains extremely entertaining and a hell of a lot of fun. music doesnt always have to be hardcore or groundbeaking, and i dont care if its commercial. at the end of the day, i just wanna listen to something i can enjoy.
