NICKELBACK Releasing DIMEBAG Tribute As Next Single - Mar. 9, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: NICKELBACK is releasing one more single from its 2005 album, "All The Right Reasons", and it's "Side Of A Bullet", a song inspired by the death of PANTERA and DAMAGEPLAN guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott. NICKELBACK frontman Chad Kroeger told Launch about the first time he played the track for Dimebag's brother, drummer Vinnie Paul. "I called Vinnie, I wanted to get his blessing, and I play him the tune and I'm telling him that it's this very PANTERA-inspired riff," Chad said. "He was into it. He was digging it over the phone, and then he says, 'You know what, dude? You gotta write one for Dime.' And I said, 'Well, I wasn't quite sure how to lead into this, but that's what the song's about, and I kind of want to get your blessing on it.'And he's like, 'Brother, of course you have my blessing.'"

"Side Of A Bullet" features a previously unheard guitar solo from Abbott that was edited together from outtakes off various PANTERA albums.

The song was written shortly after Abbott was killed by a disturbed gunman during a December 8, 2004 DAMAGEPLAN concert in Columbus, Ohio.

A live video of NICKELBACK performing "Side of a Bullet" — featuring a solo by "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott played over the speakers and a large screen with video footage of Dimebag going through the whole song — has been posted online at YouTube.com.

NICKELBACK will be inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame on June 9. The event recognizes Canadians who have excelled in entertainment, sports and the arts both nationally and globally.

NICKELBACK is currently on the road for what will probably be the last tour in support of "All The Right Reasons". The band plays tonight (Friday, March 9) in Hampton, Virginia.

2 years after his death and people still cashing in on that trying to bring some extra fans - what a ripoff!

Surprised there aren't any "Big" bashers...I'm a fan of their rockers and ballads. When they rock, they know how to and the slow ones work too. The album is old, yes, but has many real good songs. Personally,I thought the song was out as a single, because i heard it so many times...keep the hits coming!!!!!

stop doing stories about this piece of shit group. They give rock music a bad name and I guarantee that Vinnie was too nice to say, "Who is this? Chad from Nickleback? Holy shit, you guys suck! How'd you get this number? Don't fucking call me again, fuckwad." To quote the great Brian Poshen, "Nickleback's music doesn't make me want to kill people, Nickleback's music makes me want to kill Nickleback." Thank you.

Kroeger was introduced to Dimebag and Paul in 2002 in Dallas by former Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell, who was touring as Nickelback's opening act. A few drinks later, the ex-Pantera members admitted to Kroeger that they were big fans. "Vinnie told me he listened to Nickelback every day, which really surprised me," Kroeger said. "But I guess they come from that whole Southern-rock background, and we're a hard-rock band with Southern-rock influences, so they liked it a lot."

In 2003, the next time Nickelback played Dallas, Kroeger hooked up with Dime and, during a long night of partying, played him his demo of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting," which Nickelback were covering with Kid Rock for the soundtrack to "Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle."

"I wrote all these heavy, tuned-down guitar riffs and I asked him if he wanted to play the guitar solo on it, and he was pumped to do it," Kroeger said. Dime ultimately joined him and Kid on the track. "That was the first time I appeared on a record with Dime, and now this. I just wish this wasn't the way it had to happen."

As to why they're still releasing singles from this CD, it's been out 74 weeks and is still #12 on the charts, having sold more than 5 mil copies. Too bad they don't take advice from some of you brain surgeons on how to sell records.

I think I read a long time ago that Chad, Dallas from Default, Dime and Vinnie also recorded some material together for a side project.
The guys in Pantera aren't just a metal band, they're fans of good music and good songwriting. A lot of you all post shit about how much KISS sucks and how they should give it a rest (which they should), but the same people need to remember that KISS is the reason Dime even wanted to play rock to begin with.

I was wondering why anyone would ask such a dumbass question(MoltenLavaStudios). It's not to hard to tell that Nickelback is easily riding the huge success of this album. I'm not a fan of them but right now I can hear two different NB songs coming from the pc's of my co-workers. Needless to say they have been added on every radio format. Even talk stations use them for bumpers. I'm guessing they finally rest on this album after it has been out for 3 years. It will more than likely still be in the Billboard top 50 I bet.

showed me a website where you can play these two Nickelback songs layered one right over the other (the songs were "You Remind Me" and some other shit song by them) and the two songs sound EXACTLY THE SAME!!! I'm telling you the vocal pattern, the melody, everything all went together perfectly. They copied their own song and released it as another single!! THEY SUCK

that website your friend mentioned is bs. if you pay attention, you'll notice that each of those two songs is slowed down and sped up at parts to make them match. It is true that Chad does often use the same number of measures in his songwriting formulas, but he's not the first one to do it. MANY artists write using formulas, Nickelback just gets trashed for it because of how successful they are. Mick from Slipknot said it best, when you're starting out everyone wants to be your friend, and when you're on top those same people just want to kick you down.

Slipknot and Nickelback are far from friends. Ask Shawn how he feels about Nickelback selling more albums than either of his 2 bands.

"Side Of A Bullet" is a pretty decent song considering you can sing COC's "Vote With A Bullet" over most of it.

It's funny when a middle of the road rock band pays tribute to one of the most decidedly UN-middle-of-the-road musicans of all time... Ironic, dontcha think?

In any case, I hope it's a heartfelt tribute and not some contrived garbage. We'll never really know.

The only tribute song to Darrell Abbott that matters is the one that Philip Anselmo wrote, which will appear on the forthcoming DOWN record.

It isn't homofied like Zakk's and this Nickleback crap.

On behalf of all Canada, I would like to apologize for giving you Nickelback. I thought it couldn't get much worse than this, but then we stuck you with Lukas Rossi too. I wouldn't blame America for invading us next, but what if we promised we'd NEVER EVER EVER do this to you again?

Please have mercy on us hosers. Don't forget we also gave you Rush.

...I didn't think so! If you did, you'd realize it is a gem of a CD. Just because it is not Cephalic Carnage or Napalm Death doesn't immediately mean they suck. As for the connection between the 2 bands and why they get/got along. They both like sticky green and what else brings people together and breaks down barriers in differences of opinions/tastes like herb? Drop the attitude and check out the tunes - you may like a few of them. Bitches!
