LED ZEPPELIN Guitarist In Pirate Tapes Battle - Mar. 18, 2007
Norman Silvester of The Sunday Mail reports:

Legendary LED ZEPPELIN guitarist Jimmy Page is to give evidence in a Scottish court against a man accused of bootlegging the band's live concerts.

Page will appear as a witness at Glasgow Sheriff Court in the case against businessman Robert Langley, of Buckingham.

Langley, 59, was arrested at a record fair in the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, Glasgow, two years ago, with £26,000 (approximately $50,000) of allegedly pirated CDs.

Among the massive haul was a range of previously unreleased live material by LED ZEPPELIN, including a concert at Knebworth, England, in 1979.

Page, 63, flew up to Scotland and spent a day with investigators from the British Phonographic Institute, identifying the material and confirming they were recordings of the band's work. He will give evidence about how badly the band has been affected by bootlegging in the last 30 years.

I got the Knebworth and they sound horrible. In fact, the few songs that appear in the DVD were completely fixed. Mistake free. If you see/hear the same performances on the original Knebworth, it's like night and day...But hey, it's rock n roll.

But anyway. that's why he probably doesn't want that stuff circulating.

Mr. Plant, please don't make a Zeppelin reunion! You were the greatest band in history, so please don't disgrace it! Don't let down your fans by making a sham cash-grab reunion!

Yup, you got the much maligned second Knebworth gig from August 11, where Page is way off. The official DVD has footage from the first gig the week before on August 4. The only fix Page did was add some harmony lines in Achilles Last Stand to fatten it up, other then that it's untouched.

For fuck's sake - when will these guys learn that bootlegs HELP keep bands going when they are no longer a productive act ?? Everyone that I know who bothers to seek out, pay big bucks for, and use bootlegs to turn more people onto their favorite bands ARE THE BIGGEST BUYERS OF THEIR OFFICIAL PRODUCTS AS WELL. I've had all kinds of really good and eally bad boots through the years and I ALWAYS jump on the official releases after they get cleaned up and packaged nicely. All that Beatles stuff that ended up on the Anthologies was in my possession for years before I actually showed up at Best Buy at MIDNIGHT to get a legitimate copy. Fucking record labels and artists are completely out of touch with FANS of music. That's why sales are down, that's why no one is loyal to acts, and that's why music is in the shape it's in now. Hell, did bootlegging hurt the freaking Grateful Dead ???

Bert Jansch should sue jimmy for covering one of his songs and giving bert no credit for it. expect he won't because he's a nice man, seriously doesn't jimmy have better things to do than go after bootleggers.

"He will give evidence about how badly the band has been affected by bootlegging in the last 30 years."

SO fucking badly they had to gather all those illegal bootlegs up, put them on a DVD, and sell them. Tragic.

Jimmy's hypocrisy here is kind of obvious.
