QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE Crown New Bassist?
- Mar. 23, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE have reportedly hired Michael Shuman as the band's new bassist. Various online sources have reported that Shuman, formerly of Los Angeles act WIRES ON FIRE, had accepted an offer to join the QUEENS, although there's been no official confirmation. Until recently, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE had been without a permanent bass player since the dismissal of longtime member Nick Oliveri in 2004. Alain Johannes has logged the most time on the instrument for the group following Oliveri's exit.
WIRES ON FIRE issued its self-titled debut album in January and reportedly plans to continue without Shuman.
The new QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE album, titled "Era Vulgaris", is due out in mid-June and follows up 2005's "Lullabies To Paralyze".
The band has scheduled some summer European festival appearances but there's no word yet on U.S. tour plans.

Oliveri gave them the edge they lack now. All the songs he wrote and sang were the heavier ones from QOTSA

Josh Homme has always been the main writer. Even for the heavy songs. And QOTSA are by no means a fake band. They aren't even from LA.

Wires On Fire is good band. Michael is a great player! I am looking foward to this record. I liked Lullabies alot, but it was a bit mellow for my taste, especially after SFTD, but the 3 tunes I have heard sound promising. Michael should fit well, as close as Alain was to that scene, he was still not the right fit for the band, IMO, but he is talented, nonetheless.
QOTSA does not by any means suck, if you think that, you are just delusional, and cannot appreciate good shit. They may not be your thing, but to say they suck is just weak, because they are one of the ONLY interesting rock bands playing these days.
I do miss Nick, but you know, now there are two bands to follow out of that split, QOTSA and Mondo Generator. And I fucking miss KYUSS all the time, but they are not coming back, but it it was sweet to see John and QOTSA break off the old tunes at the Wiltern, on my birthday, no less.
Let the hate begin...
