NINE INCH NAILS Frontman Blasts BUSH Administration - Mar. 27, 2007
Launch Radio Networks reports: NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor told Gigwise.com that the concept behind his upcoming "Year Zero" album was partially inspired by his feelings toward the Bush administration. Reznor explained, "I really wanted to focus on something that was at the forefront of my consciousness which is, as an American, I'm appalled by the behavior of our government, the direction that it has taken and the direction that it's taken everyone else in the world and its arrogance. I decided to write an essay about where the world might be if we continue down the path that we're on with a neo-con-esque government doing whatever it pleases."

"Year Zero" is set 15 years in the future, when a totalitarian right-wing government has taken over the U.S. and is possibly putting drugs in the water supply to sedate the populace while it wages religious war. Reznor added, "There are no concepts in the story that aren't rooted in things that already are happening."

Reznor previously expressed his unhappiness with the current government in "The Hand That Feeds" from 2005's "With Teeth".

"Year Zero", which is reportedly the first of two concept albums, is due out on April 17.

No Education --> most of the american people are kept stupid by their leaders. No wonder, bush won the election.

Spreading fear all over the world.. top justify a dictatorship in what once belonged to the worlds leading Civilization.

You would be surprised at how many Americans agree with Mr. Reznor and are completely against our current administration. Speaking as a natural born U.S. citizen I hate not only our current administration but past ones as well. Our 2 party political system is completely fowled up and not enough people are willing to sacrifice their time in order to do something about it. You are completely correct when you say that most Americans are kept stupid by our leaders. It's their way of controling our society and doing what they please. Even though I am an American I am completely ashamed at the lack of education and complete laziness of my culture. I think a genocide is in order and all dumbasses not only in my country but the world should be put into a permanent sleep. Of course if we do that we lose 90% of the population, lol. (I'll step off my soapbox now) \m/

What a slap in the face to the millions upon millions of Americans that voted for Bush and strongly support his administration. How trendy it is to bash Bush. Right up there with being emo. Don't tell me what to think or believe. Give me Bush any day of the week over Gore or Kerry. I find it laughable that Mr. Reznor talks about Bush's arrogance since he himself may be the most arrogant person in music today and this article proves it. It is people like Reznor that make me wish we would move towards a totalitarian right-wing government. Read Revelations if you really want to see where the world is headed.

Now, I'm a fan of NIN, but I don't know if this will swing voters for '08, if that's what they're trying to do. Seems like this whole political topic was tried at the '04 election, and the general consensus by musicians and, hell, the majority of America, was to not vote Bush. Anybody who's anybody took sides wth that toolbag Kerry. And that pulled a complete 180 on everyone. Will the same happen in '08?

"Reznor graduated from high school in 1983 and enrolled at Allegheny College, where he studied computer engineering, joined a local band named Option 30 and played three shows per week with them. After a year in college, Reznor decided to drop out to pursue a full-time career in music."

compared with

"Bush attended Yale University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1968. After a stint in the Air National Guard, he obtained permission to end his six-year service obligation six months early to attend Harvard Business School, receiving an honorable discharge."

I don't dispute the fact that Trent is a musical prodigy, but feel free to compare and contrast (perhaps, even with your own educational background) before you label GWB an idiot.

True idiocy...IMHO...is disparaging as "idiotic" anything you don't agree with. Here's an idea...elucidate a bit. Explain your views and point out why it's better. It's a friggin epidemic on this board: "Metallica don't record what I want them to...Lars and James are gay sellouts".

You can dismiss the administration as good, bad, ugly...whatever. Just substitue "I don't agree with" in the place of "they're idiots". Regardless of what "daddy does" it's pretty damn hard to get dual degress from Harvard and Yale.

By the way...I like NIN but don't tune into NIN.com for my political news. Broaden your horizons people, the daylight is just a doorway away.

I don't think Trent Reznor is claiming that he's the first guy to have this "epiphany". He is one American among many who feel betrayed and used by their government. He's just in a position to write really awesome music about it.

The fact that musicians have started talking about you Blabbermouth fcks is the worst possible thing that could have happened. Trent's going to make a shtload of money, get a shtload of chicks(and/or dudes), and people are going to love this CD. On top of all that, he's made quite the effort to let the message stand side by side with the music on this one. If that bothers you so much that you have to sit down and say things like "ooh, Trent must think he's so creative" "Ooh, Trent thinks he's groundbreaking", then maybe you should rethink your existence on our planet. You've got no use. No healthy criticism. You're a scourge. We'll get more use out of a dead slug.

Now, to share my thoughts. I don't think America's people are oppressed. The fact that Trent Reznor, a multi-million dollar earning musician, can make a CD that WILL go platinum is a testament to the freedom that we have. America's problem is the fact that we have been neutralized. It's not oppression.
If you sit in a room full of people, and you all agree that your government is fcked up, then you haven't accomplished a goddamn thing. All you've done is bitch. But Americans think that's enough. What you have to do is ACT. DO something. Start a movement. Join a movement. Because sitting in your basement chastizing people who are trying to make a difference only adds to America's problem. If you believe this administration is fcked up, then support Trent's efforts to bring like-minded people together. That's how changes take hold. I don't care if you like the music. I fcking hate Public Enemy's music, but if Chuck D was standing in NYC with an AK-47 in hand, and he looks at me and says "Join us, muthafcka. We're takin' our country back." You'd better believe that i'd throw a clock around my neck and get this shit started.

No doubt that NOLA is a disgrace. Problem is Mississippi seems to be recovering much quicker and with LESS Fed aid than LA. Granted, it's not as populated, doesn't require the same infrastructure rebuild, etc. but it's still a fact.

The political shenanigans in LA are legendary, and even though Blanco isn't Huey Long, I feel certain that there is as much a dispensation issue as there is a "lack of help" issue.

The 5th Division can't rumble down your streets with tanks uninvited, and the 10th Amendment implies that what is not specifically granted to the Feds is the state responsibility. The money must be "allocated" at the state level. That's the problem with everything these days...throwing $ at a problem does not = fixing the problem.

That being said...it IS the job of the President to make sure things happen and flow smoothly, and Dubya has certainly dropped the ball on that one (and many more).

Trent is rigth!!! Yes, he hold his nose sometime a little bit too high - but at the end of the bill he's correct - and who the fuck is perfect? The americans who vote bush surely not!!! The only reason why Trent is getting political (do you remember "The Hands That Feeds"???) is fucking you!!! How can you vote a guy wich lied to you so many times (and to the whole world) - and he did not waste only your fucking money (what he do also), he waste the life of your childrens - how can you give such an person without an responsibility your sons and daugthers - i can't fucking believe it. All the life of all the other people, who died a senseless death, seems not to count for you.

Don't get me wrong, my brother life and works in Texas - and he say the americans are nice - he likes their sense for humor and the easy kind - but damm, when it comes to politics many of them seems to have no clue or see it tooooo fucking easy - or is it really a lack of education of the voter? What they told you in history or in politics in the schcool? Did you see the news? Not the fucking Vox-News, I mean CNN or something, If yes, how could you???? I respect your will to do the rigth thing, if you want to kill Sadam because he is "evil", but the world is much more complexiv then you migth know....see what happens in Irak.

I am not pro or anti much because holding on to a certain ideal creates limitations, but I am just slightly irritable with this "Dubya" situation. Liberal or conservative, every single president have always had a group of people to dislike him, it's just that in my 27 years, I have never seen more dislike for Mr.Bush than any other president. The Bush administration keeps pissing kerosene on the fire. The fire keeps rising and rising. There seems to be no closure to the sh*t the Bush administration keeps getting into. The next president to succeed Mr.Bush has to do a complete 180 to replinish the lost respect the US government needs dearly. I am not another over-patriotic American like your typical Toby Keith fan, but I do love the fact that I am American and I love my freedoms. It's just that being an American in 2007 creates a bit of anxiety. On another note, I am looking forward to Year Zero from Reznor and the crew. No matter how much someone talks sh*t about modern NIN, modern NIN is still better than most artists barely emerging in the eye of the public. I am glad to see that Trent has beat the chemical demons, at least for awhile.
