MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: 'The Bible Says That The U.N. Is Going To Fail'

MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine recently spoke to Revolver magazine ( web site) about the band's upcoming CD, "United Abominations". The album title is a play on "United Nations" (the self-described "global associations of governments") and the album cover features the United Nations building being destroyed. "The whole premise of the U.N. was to prevent war," he railed, "but they're totally ineffective. What just happened with Israel and Lebanon, and why did it take that long to stop? Look what happend with Saddam Husein — 17 resolutions, and he just kept spitting in their face. And now the "blue helmets" are raping women and little girls in these African countries? Come on! How long is the public going to be blind to this? "I know I'm not making any friends at the U.N. with this album," Mustaine continued with a harsh laugh. But, frankly, he's not worried. Like many born-again Christians, Mustaine favors the interpetation of the Book of Revelations that views the founding of the United Nations — and its eventual demise — as part of the prophesied events that will inevitably lead to the Second Coming. "I got saved a few years ago, and I believe the Bible says that the U.N. is going to fail. In order for the predictions in the Book of Revelations to take place, it's gotta fail. I don't ever expect to go there, except to look where the building used to be, you know? I hope that someones going to pull the chain, and that's where the butthole of the United States is, and it just disappears!" Read the entire interview in the May 2007 issue of Revolver magazine.

Dave has totally lost it. I'm no bible expert, but I'm pretty sure the United Nations isn't mentioned in it. And why is he so angry at the United Nations? There are millions of Americans going to bed hungry every night...is Dave gonna write a song bashing "meals on wheels" for being a failure? I would love to see Dave put in place where he would have to debate someone who actually knows facts (like Tim Russert) so everyone could see how ignorant he is. Why do people go on the offensive when you make good points on the invalidity of their faith? Ok, we give jewish and muslim people less of a hard time but that is because most of us here have a better understanding of the iniquities of the bible and the horrific institutions it spawned. Thats not saying that we, as atheists, have some kind of leaning toward the teachings of the quoran or the torah. Infact people have reservations in attacking islamic beleifs because of the absolute fundamentalism displayed by the majority of its followers.
Why should it be wrong to disrespect someones beleifs!?

what a waste. Megadeth plain sucks now. The fact that they are releasing an old song that wasnt really good in the first place as the single for their new album is fucking stupid. And now that Dave throws the bible in my face every second of the day...fuck 'em, not buyin the new album, not downloading the new album, not going to see them live, and I'll be suprised if I dont throw out my old cds by the end of today. Maybe I will keep Rust in Peace just as a reminder of a once great band.

Dave, you are a complete ignoramus. Revelations is allegory for Rome, it is NOT a prophetic work. Secondly, the United Nations would only be one part of this. Where is the anti-Christ? Where's the 1,000 year reign? Where are the beasts that rise from the sea and land? This is not the end of times, and the U.N. is far too toothless to be a) anything worth being intimidated by and b) to be the tool of the devil that will be used to dominate the world.

You guys are aware of the expression "a few rotten apples spoil the bunch"? Well that can be applied to any group, organization or entity in society, including religion. With any religion you are going to have a few fundamentalist aholes who take an extreme view of their faith, thinking they have some personal mission that has been handed down to them or whatever.
You know what happens?? Everyone focuses on them...pisses me off. All the good that the church does gets ignored. People just look for excuses not to go, they are really scared of something..
One example...if someone moves to a new city, has no family, no friends, no job, no one. They are scared and alone, where can they go first? Oh I know...CHURCH! A nice community to welcome them in, open their hearts to them. All the faith based organizations that have helped millions of poor and deprived people. I could go on.
Ya and church really sucks, GIMME A BREAK.

Am I missing something...? I really just can't understand how comments on the ineffectiveness of the united nations to date have any true bearing on the nature of the organization. Most of the failures he attributes to the united nations involve nations ignoring their will or sanctions because they do not have ENOUGH military power and discretionary force. The U.S could not be stopped from going to war in Iraq by the United Nations, because the United Nations is not strong enough rather than too powerfull. The logical conclusion is that we should STRENGTHEN our international bonds and community to give international law MORE weight rather than less.
I'm not even going to touch the biblical nonsense here... Please do not confuse the United Nations with a biblical antichrist...The very model is absurd.

Listen man, I never said I was holier then thou, where do you get off making assumptions like that? Did you conveniently ignore what I wrote? I said, I do not judge others, it is not up to me. Did you miss that? Wow. Prayer is important, but so is dialogue and I agree with you on that. I never said I do not engage with others about social and political and religious issues.
My cousin is an atheist and we have great discussions. It is completely done with an open-mind and with respect. We respect each other.
What I cannot stand are people who are stubborn and only want to listen to people they agree with. IN others words they do not want to challege themselves and what they have learned. I have no problem listening to "the other side of the story", does not mean I have to agree with it, but will listen. You know why? In order to have healthy debate you have to listen to the opposition.
Otherwise people can label you ignorant. It also makes my own position stronger because I have considered the other option, and know it is something I do not want.

This was an interview, of course the interviewer will provoke or ask questions like this because they know they will get a reaction out of you fools. Its not like Dave said, "Hey, guy doing the interview, let me tell you about my personal beliefs for fun, and make sure you print this, because I want people to read and criticize my every thought, I want people to continue to judge me for my beliefs". For those that are responding to his interview as, "oh dave, please don't talk about this..." Why do you care? why does it effect you in that way? Dave is always going to speak his mind and if you don't like his opinions or beliefs, then stop wasting time caring. Either listen and enjoy the music, lyrical content and all, take him for who he is, regardless of YOUR beliefs... or go listen to someone else if it really bothers some of your sensitive souls.

I'm not here to praise Metallica,nor am I here to bash them or any other band.
I'm sick and tired of Dave Mustaine going on a soapbox about what's wrong with the world,and bands like Metallica or Slayer and deciding what's wrong with the world for me instead of worrying about what's been wrong with his music that he's been putting out
namely: The entire Risk and Cryptic Writings albums for starters and the majority of the material on Youthanasia being rather boring.
I'd like to think that Dave Mustaine didn't have whatever talent he had taken away when he decided to get clean.
He went from helping to build a genre to being a mere shell of the man that did.
I'm sure if I was still a LOYAL Megadeth fan I would appreciate some of the material they've put out atleast on this new album but I've lost a good majority of that loyalty due to the fact Dave can't even go 15 minutes without crying about Metallica or whatever the fuck bothers him today.
He can't accept the fact that HE can repair the Megadeth name and bring it to some respectability again by simply concentrating on the music he's creating rather than pushing religion down our throats.
It's simple: CONCENTRATE on the mother fucking music and become the beast you claim to be when you're behind the mic with that Dean Guitar in hand or quit the business and enjoy whatever spoils you haven't shot through your nose,veins or drank away.
Don't spout the fuck off on the fucking UN because last I knew,the UN wasn't the cause of your band sucking the last decade and a half.

Regarding pyramids and cathedrals -
The fact that these monuments were built by oppressed people doesn't make any difference in the fact that they are here, or, in the case of The Pyramids, still here. And without cathedrals and architecture that evolved out of that we wouldn't have skyscrapers. Religion may in fact be asource of power for those authorities involved in it, but what isn't? I'm saying that any time people have a serious issue or question, in this case why, other people go to answering that question for them. Jesus and his apostles were what we'd call today, a street gang, only they didn't go round busting heads, instead they preached peace. People have been taking it out of context for a millenia now.
Regarding Dave and his religious "balls" -
It's true, dudes got boulders between his legs for not being a statanist or a pagan or worst of all, a libertarian. And I for one am much more comfortable with a live and talking possible big bullshit Dave than I would be with a dead Dave. I think we all are, and if not, then fuck you. Let the guy do what he wants too, if his christianity gives you that big of a hard on then either ignore it or listen to something else. Dave is somewhat stable and I'm grateful to Christianity for that among many, many other contributions to western society in general.
Also, everyone was oppressed back when those things were constructed, and almost everyone is today. That's why people shop at Wal-Mart.
