SMASHING PUMPKINS: More Tour Dates Announced
- Mar. 28, 2007
|
|
|
SMASHING PUMPKINS have announced their first live performance since December 2, 2000 — a very special and intimate theatre show to take place May 22 in Paris, France at the historic and elegantly appointed Grand Rex. Tickets will go on sale April 11. This marks the first time the SMASHING PUMPKINS will unveil songs from the upcoming "Zeitgeist" (Martha's Music/Reprise), their sixth album and first of new material since 2000's "Machina/The Machines of God" and the free, digital-only release "Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music". "Zeitgeist" was produced by Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin, with Roy Thomas Baker and Terry Date working separately on various tracks, and represents the culmination of two years of work.
After the Paris show, SMASHING PUMPKINS will headline major European festivals from May 28 at Holland's Pinkpop festival through June 17 at Switzerland's Greenfield Festival, returning to England August 24 (Leeds Festival) and August 26 (Reading Festival). Stay tuned for more information about North American tour dates beyond the V Festivals confirmed in Washington, DC (August 5) and Toronto, ONT (September 8).
It's unlikely that original guitarist James Iha and bassist D'Arcy Wretzky will join Corgan and Chamberlin in the new lineup.
The SMASHING PUMPKINS have created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in music history. Formed in Chicago in 1988, they released "Gish", their influential (and platinum) debut in 1991, which was followed by more platinum and multi-platinum albums including the nine-times platinum "Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness" and the four-times platinum "Siamese Dream". The pivotal group's many hits include "Disarm", "Today", "Cherub Rock", "1979", "Tonight, Tonight" and "Bullet With Butterfly Wings" — songs that defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation.

I'm a rocker, man, through and through, but I gotta say I'm pretty psyched for this to be happening. I dig the Pumpkins big time. And for the record, admitting to liking something else OTHER than metal is actually more metal than being a close-minded fuck.

It's not metal - what's it doing on here! ROAR! Where' the death metal news? ROAR! All death metal bands are sell outs ROAR! Post on stories I don't care about ROAR!
Iha and D'Arcy did NOTHING in the Pumpkins except stand there - why keep pretending otherwise? They didn't write jack shit - the people that are calling for them to be in the band are the ones that naysay everything. 'Oh Metallica are going to play Master Of Puppets in it's entirety live oh so that means they've run out of ideas so it's not right oh I'm soooo old skool and troo that it hurts oooooh' - cut the crap and admit you're so desperate to be cool that you can't openly support anything.

The Smashing Pumpkins aren't Metal, and they couldn't write a decent song if their lives depended on it, their singers voice is a fucking nuisance.
People who like this band sure are dumb.
