TAAKE Frontman Refuses To Apologize For 'Raping' Essen - Apr. 3, 2007
TAAKE frontman Hoest (photo#1, photo#2, photo#3), who found himself at the center of controversy last month after he appeared on stage in Essen, Germany with a swastika symbol drawn on his chest, has slammed his critics for engaging in a "pathetic Internet debate" over the incident. In a posting on the band's official web site, Hoest writes, "My final words on this matter: My previous statement clearly states that I apologize ONLY to our COLLABORATORS who might get problems because of the scandal. This means that I take full responsibility and should receive all 'problems' myself. But what problems did I get? We raped Essen on one of the first days of the tour and the word spread within minutes. For the rest of the tour I was such an easy target for verbal or physical abuse on stage, walking around the venues, in the streets, etc. but I didn't receive ANY confrontation. So keep your pathetic Internet debate going, but don't think for one second that I take any of you seriously. Furthermore, I never did anything to make TAAKE a 'big' band. I was hoping to lose some fans with the 'Nekro' EP, so now I certainly expect to get rid of some more. That being said, I do appreciate the support of the people out there who truly understand TAAKE."

According to an article published in the March 26 edition of the Norwegian newspaper Bergens Tidende, TAAKE's record label, Dark Essence Records, has indicated that it may terminate its relationship with the band as a result of TAAKE's behavior at the Essen concert.

TAAKE's third album, "Doedskvad", was released in 2005 via Dark Essence Records. The band had previously released two albums on the Wounded Love label: "Nattestid..." (1999) and "Bjoergvin" (2002). "Doedskvad" is the last installment in this trilogy.

SPECTER: Now, wait a minute. Wait a minute. The constitution says you can’t take it away, except in the case of rebellion or invasion. Doesn’t that mean you have the right of habeas corpus, unless there is an invasion or rebellion?

"...and it's good to see that they do whatever the fuck they want without caring about what people say."

He must have cared a little, since:

"I was hoping to lose some fans with the 'Nekro' EP, so now I certainly expect to get rid of some more."

If you don't care about what people say, why would you care about what fans are saying about you? Why go out of your way to alienate them? Truth is it's human nature to seek acceptance, and it bugs me to see guys like this Taake dude play 'too cool for school' about their actions, no mater how off color and distasteful they were. Freedom of speech is fine, but try having some common courtesy and decency.

is not what the band is about. But I think it's great that we still have one genre of music that can provoke and annoy people, like punk did in the old days.

That's one of the things I love about black metal, the fact that it's not for everyone. It pisses people off and it should. For those you would like the Disney version of black metal, there is a new Dimmu Borgir record out soon. I'm sure they'll play it safe. Enjoy.

Looking forward to see Taake live again

What the hell is your problem? I know Opeth aren't as Anti-everything as Taake (which make them suck naturally) but at least they don't make crappy music that they have to distract people from by showing them their tiny weiners

I like controversy.
I like those who are willing to stand up on stage
and make a statement that goes against the flow of sheep.

Hoest can think the way he wants to.
To hell with those who believe he should conform to the politically correct (PC) way of life.

99% of the people posting anti Taake crap on here...
obviously dont believe in freedom of expression outside of the PC box they live in.
You people probably believe everything Fox News tells you also.
Pathetic children.

Long live Taake!

1. A dick is a dick. Get over it.
2. Taake has written some awesome music. Just because it doesnt sound like Slayer or Emperor doesnt mean it isn't good. Lets see you write three albums worth of material and get it recorded.
3. So he drew a swastika on his chest and got shit for it... People have done dumber things.
4. So he drew a swastick on his chest to get people talking... Peope have had worse reasons for doing dumb shit.

I dont get the concept of trying to get rid of fans though. I mean... isnt the point of making music to get it heard by MORE than yourself.

Why record music at all if you dont want people to be able to hear it? Why play live if you dont want people to hear it?

I don't think it's about not wanting people to hear it, but getting rid of those who are there for the wrong reasons. To get rid of a few people who's only into it to because they think BM is "cool" or whatever is a good thing. Better to have fewer fans that really get what you're doing. It's not like they'll ever make a lot of money out of this music anyways.

I think his comment on losing fans is more of a tounge-in-cheek thing.
In otherwords...more of a sarcastic joke.

He probably wants fans who arent such wimps as to run to blabbermouth crying how offended they are at the sight of a swastika.
It really angers me. Bunch of mindless babies.

Sounds like a man under pressure if you ask me.

I doubt anyone will spend money just to show up for a Taake gig and throw scorn in Høsts face. That would be the truly pathetic thing. Any moron with five seconds to spare, and one or more fingers can go online and voice their oppinion, and so they obviously do.

Too bad, Høst.

How you managed actually gain "fans" on the last couple of watered down albums you did, now that's the mystery here.

Chances are, if thousands of people buy your albums, you've somehow managed to stir interest in a lot of idiots. If your album is restricted and limited, either through the number of copies pressed, or the record label used, chances are the people who will find your music, are the truly dedicated ones, for which you meant it, in the first place.

A lot of artists, ie. Die Toten Kehren Wieder Mit Dem Wind... have managed to master the art of choosing their own audience, and I think that if more metal bands did the same, the quality of their material would quite automatically rise, since that exclusive audience certanly holds them responsible to deliver music of a very certain standard.

Even if that is utopia.
