GILBY CLARKE: 'I Have Not Left ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA' - Apr. 14, 2007
Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke has shot down reports that he has left ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA, the band he formed with Tommy Lee (MÖTLEY CRÜE), Jason Newsted (VOIVOD, ex-METALLICA) and Canadian vocalist Lukas Rossi.

ET Canada reported earlier in the week that ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA was "over" following Clarke's decision to leave the band. [To watch the ET Canada report, go to this location and click on "Supernova to Change Name" from a list of videos at the bottom of the page.] However, in a statement issued earlier today (Saturday, April 14), Clarke said, "I have not left ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA. We just finished the tour. I don't know where they got that from. I did an interview with ET Canada, and we talked about the future of the band, but I never said I've left the band."

ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA's self-titled debut album has shifted less than 56,000 copies in the United States since its November 2006 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Although Rossi didn't comment on the rumors that Clarke had exited the band, he told ET Canada that "there will be a name change… the best is yet to come!" He also said that he is working on lyrics for a new album.

There is no word yet if Newsted will continue to be involved with the group, which completed a U.S. tour in February with THE PANIC CHANNEL as support.

The band lost Newsted in October 2006 after an accident that resulted in a torn anterior labrum in his left shoulder and a rotator cuff and bicep tear in the right (bassist Johnny Colt of BLACK CROWES/TRAIN filled in during the aforementioned trek). Newsted suffered the injuries while trying to catch a 90-pound bass head that had fallen from atop his amp. The combination of surgery and a lengthy rehab assignment left him sidelined for up to nine months.

"Rock Star Supernova" was certified gold in January for Canadian sales in excess of 50,000 copies.

Of course he didn't quit.
His contract probably tells him that he can't for another five years at least.

He's tarnishing his own reputation. A lot of people think "Gilby sucks" because he was in Rock Star Supernova, but those people never heard his solo album Pawnshop Guitars. Pawnshop Guitars was, by far, the best solo album ever done by a GNR member, including Slash and Velvet Revolver. Hell, Axl even appeared on it before he had Gilby fired from the band!

WTF...whoever randomly came up with the rumor that he left must be seriously bored. You don't just say something like that. I didn't THINK Gilby would do that... Wow that gave me a heartattack....thanks guys!

COMMENT | That is just pathetic.

.......for it is better to have a gold record in Canada and sell 56.000 copies in the US than selling 560 copies on your own in the US and not having a gold record in Canada.

Who cares what T-Boner did or did not do, just as long as he's not here telling us how "great" this band is. Bottom line: this band blows!
Gilby, cut your losses and chalk this up as a very bad decision and go the way of Newsted; abandon ship!

I thought you had to sell 500,000 copies of an album to go "gold", not 50,000?

Isn't this just what was announced and retracted about Axl and GNR and various members of VR. Gilby does sell out more places solo than with RSSN. and there is GNR runion talk. Think this all a marketing ploy to test the waters.

what with the old GNR t shirts, videos and cds being bootlegged and being picked up like gold by the young folk ; it would be an ideal time to cash in with a GNR reunion.

You have to sell 500 000 copies in US and 50 000 in CANADA because in CAnada, we are not a lot of people!!! there's way more people in US than CAnada (excuse my english Im a French Canadian!!! )

The second RSSN disc will kick ass. Lukas Rossi will be able to do his thang and it will be rad man. Lukas has tons of fans who are waiting for the next disc and it will rock. I really hope the negative people out there give it an open minded listen. Booyaa!
